There was nothing minimal about 1940s makeup!

Of course, AI doesn’t know what makeup looks like, and whoever set up this cr@p obviously didn’t bother to proofread it anyway…

“dark mascara and liner were only highlighted.” Okaaaay…

Yeah, the war is over, and things are getting back to normal, and I guess we can start flirting and dating again…

But this actually illustrates, though probably not intentionally, one little thing that has changed.

She’s wearing the fur jacket (it was called a “chubby”, and they were all the fashion) that she bought herself with her wages from working in the factory with the men away.

She’s very glad they’re home, and safe…. but millions of women like her aren’t about to leave the workforce, now they’ve discovered the independence that comes from earning their own income.

My one paternal aunt and one of my maternal aunts, who lived 2,000 miles apart, and AFAIK never met,.told me almost the same story, of buying themselves fur chubbies with their wartime salaries, and another aunt bought herself a gold watch.

All three did marry …. Only one quit her job; the other two worked for years, both ending up partners with their husbands in businesses. And they all had more say than previous generations in things like planning for the future.

The reason I know about the furs is that both of those aunts gave me their jackets to sell in my vintage clothing store, pleased that someone would want them… both had been reluctant to get rid of these precious possessions, even when they thought they were too out of fashion to wear.

No, not the gold watch. Sigh….

From the looks of them, I doubt that any of these tracks are used. Maybe could not be used. They’re not rust colored on the tops, but they’re so bumpy that they’d play holy scratch with train undercarriages. Maybe real, but I suspect AI. You train experts can enlighten me.

Those tracks are well in use, the shiny running surface points to that. It’s a ‘Short Line’ by the looks of it that has minimal maintenance, and a line speed of somewhere in the region of 15-25mph. Each ‘dip’ in the rails is at one of the joints, and very normal occurrence, even on well maintained lines with sectional track.
One thing to be aware of is that photograph has been taken with a telephoto lens that foreshortens the foreground considerably. The lengths of rail between the joints will be in the region of 60 feet (18.29 metres).

Part of the vintage clothing business in the 19 mumblemumbleties was making, or at least selling, old jeans, and clothing made from old jeans.

In fact, before my husband and I opened our own store, a big part of our business was buying up old jeans (from … shhhh… secret sources) and sorting them into wearable ones and ones only good for material, and ones not good for either.

We spent hours repairing jeans, then sold the best ones to one store, the next best to another, and huge piles of material to a small company that made custom clothes. Literally half a ton at a time.

Then we took the third best jeans and sold them, along with vintage clothes and collectible glassware and jewelry, which we spent one or two days a week finding, every Saturday and Sunday at a huge flea market 80 miles from home.

If that sounds like a lot of work… it only took 7 days a week from dawn till bedtime.

Anyway, for the store, I’ve made dozens and dozens of jeans skirts and jackets, or ones made of jeans and old drapery fabrics.

But I’ve never seen jeans big enough to cut like this garment, because they curve away right below the pocket to shape the crotch and legs.

According to Uncle Google, this is the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT), connecting Norfolk and Hampton, Virginia.

It looks like goodbye to any overhead lights or signs.

Coincidentally enough, while searching for the location, I found a newspaper story about a truck that got stuck in there, and another about a different truck that scraped the roof of the Boston tunnel….

I couldn’t read them, because they were both the type of newspaper sites that required instantly subscribing in order to read one story.

But looking at this picture, I’m inclined to think it’s not the world’s rarest occurrence.

Another ludicrous scene from the AI puzzle department.

Undersize firehoses leaking everywhere…. in fact the most powerful seems to come from one fireman’s pocket. Some newlyweds’ abandoned car blocking the one lane street while the marching band turns that way, and a giant angry eagle ties pennants to nothing, to block them all.

Et cetera.

But I did search for whatever tiny bit of the life ring (?) might actually be hidden in the picture, and I may have found it, but the resolution isn’t good enough to tell for sure.

What do you think?
In the upper right corner stands a tree. Just below the green top, there’s something wrapped around the trunk. It could be big white beads, but I think it could be the life ring.

I put vinegar in the washer where liquid fabric softener goes, not only does it rinse any remaining soap, it cuts any odors!

Some of these seem reasonable… others not so much. I’m tired of critiquing AI.

But nobody’s going to put a whole cup of lemon juice in the washer!

Unless they have a giant lemon tree, it would cost a fortune, and the clothes would be full of lemon juice.

Vinegar is way cheaper and also cleaner.

Great artwork in this strip.

And what a helpful wife… “Don’t forget to kill Paulie.”

And I bet you all thought Clebonza was just saying he had to pee, as a ruse.
