One of our favorite shows is from Nat Geo WILD. Secrets of the Zoo Down Under. Real life zoo keepers and vets in Sydney. My favorite part is when they take an animal out to see the rest of the zoo. Or, when they rescue wild animals. Great show.
Reminds me of a joke. A cop pulls over a car, and sees the back seat is full of penguins. “You can’t do that” he says. “Take them to the zoo.”
Next day same cop pulls over the same car, still with penuins. “I told you to take them to the zoo,” he says. The driver responds “I did, and today I’m taking them to the movies.”
That was another way I found to almost cause accidents on the Trans-Canada Highway — driving home from predator control in my MG with the top down and a cougar sitting in the passenger seat…
whoa whoa! ….details, kind sir! I need more details on just WHY
there was a cougar sitting in the passenger seat of that MG
as you traveled across North America.
a pet? an intruder? were you transporting a homeless cougar
to its foster home?
So we needed a cougar skin for the museum collection. Predator control had had to put one down and I was sent to pick it up. It had been stored in a freezer and was frozen stiff. Wouldn’t fit in the trunk, so…
Today I checked out a copy of Ernest Cline’s “Ready Player One,” the book the movie was based on.
The book was 2011, the movie 2018.
This is the second time I’m reading it; I know that because major plot points come back to me as I’m reading. I don’t remember the “fill in” stuff though, so I’m quite enjoying it. Most of George Carlin’s seven words appear, but they’re pages apart.
After I’m done, I think I’ll go looking for the movie.

Crème Brulée
3 cups heavy or whipping cream
6 egg yolks
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (real not artificial)
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
sliced strawberries, Bananas, fresh or canned pineapple chunks and canned mandarin—orange sections
1 In 1-quart saucepan over medium heat, heat cream until bubbles form around edge of pan
2 Meanwhile, in 2-quart saucepan with wire whisk, blend yolks with sugar. Slowly stir in cream.
3 Over medium-low heat cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it just coats back of metal spoon, about 15 minutes (do not boil). Stir in vanilla.
4 Pour mixture into 1 1/2 – quart broilersafe (sic) casserole; refrigerate until well chilled, about 6 hours.
5 Preheat broiler if manufacturer directs. Sift brown sugar over chilled cream mixture; broil 3 to 4 minutes until sugar melts. Refrigerate.
6 To serve: Place casserole in center of large tray; surround with fruit. Serve portions of mixed fruit with Crème Brulée spooned over.
Notes from me:
The first time I made this I saw “blend yolks with sugar” and added both the white and brown to them. It sort of worked, but the custard didn’t set up properly. (still good though) The point of this note is; don’t do that!
I find the 1/3 cup of brown sugar a bit much (and for me to find anything has too much sugar is very rare. I cut it back to just over 1/6 cup.
The “…broil 3 to 4 minutes until sugar melts” is just plain wrong. Put the pan under the broiler with good clearance and watch it.
yeah, me too. SO many things have to
go just right for that to happen and in spite of the hate and vile behavior that humanity is capable of, they are also capable of this……landing a spacecraft on a distant planet—and that spacecraft radios images and sounds from the
surface of that planet back to the home planet.

You have captured Cleveland’s “Terminal Tower” beautifully ! !

And how many of these cute critters do they have to (ahem) ‘do away with’ to make one of them coats? Poor cuties.

I want to know the answer to that, too.

The poster is beautiful in its simplicity. And suspense! Will Cleo make it over the tower, or go down as a second rate building vaulter?
Crème brûlée
A good, tasty, basic custard! This is good!

Another way to brown the top is to use a mini blow torch. That way you can really observe the browning and stop before burning.
