Those hats, and those dour expressions… they look like they’re trying to drive men to drink.
Whatever good the temperance movement thought they were doing, or maybe even could have done, in some small measure…. had they remained rational and reasonable,..
they alienated not only their intended audience, but almost all reasonable people, with their extremism and fierceness.
I have no statistics, but I wonder… in the end, they may have caused more drinking than they prevented.
