I recognized Roy Rogers as soon as the page loaded! (I used to have Roy and Trigger embroidered on the collar of my Roy Rogers™ cowboy shirt!)

With that kind of performance, I don’t understand how Cleo was even cast in the role. Unless this was her screen test. “The gig basically consists of going along with whatever the big guy says; usually charge at something and, ignoring all danger to yourself, either drive it away or wrestle it to the ground. Can you handle it?”
Bobby’s audience does not seem impressed. In 1965 I started Essex Catholic Archdiocesan High School, and it was not exactly swinging. The girls in Bobby’s video remind me of some of the girls from catholic schools they would invite for mixers.
I went to a ‘girls on one side’ and ”boys on the other side’ Catholic high school. We didn’t have to worry about being smarter than the guys, but still had lots of mixed classes. And those Friday night sock hops!
I think the audience is real, but under the eye of someone who won’t let them go.
I present as evidence Bobby’s shadow (just after 1:05), to me it clearly cuts in and out in agreement with the lightning.
WooHoo! What a terrific ‘toon for today! As MMM likes to call Roy.,.”Ole Squinty Eyes” And to end the show with “Happy Trails”! I can go to sleep with visions of their ranch in Chatsworth where the show was filmed…(and where we lived for over 30 years)
The unverified story I heard was that Cleo did fine in her screen test…
Got hired… and immediately fired, after this scene from her first rehearsal.
…
The producers had really wanted a basset hound for the role…
But with the first episode close at hand, and Cleo gone, what could they do?
They relented to the Rogers’ wishes, and gave the part to Roy and Dale’s family pet…
Their German shepherd, the real Bullet, after whom the canine character on the show had been named, in deference to their love for their dog… And yeah, their star power.
…
Bullet was smart and obedient, and already responded to the name, because it was his…
but he’d been turned down because he wasn’t a basset hound….
In the end, though, he proved adequate, worked for far less kibble, and was never replaced.
One of the only dogs in movies or television to play himself, under his real name, and never pass on the role to one of his pups, or a younger lookalike.
…
People liked him, but to some, the show was never all it could have been with a basset star… just… you know…. probably not Cleo Clifford.

I suspect you have to be Canadian to really appreciate what Shatner is doing in that N FB short… but is he ever doing it.
Thanks for that.

Parco Regionale Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli, in Italy, near Pisa.
One page said “photo by Carlo Cafferini” … on many others it was unattributed, even on official Italian government websites for tourists.
On another site, dedicated to photos that look like Renaissance paintings, one commenter claimed that it was heavily Photoshopped…
It’s late, so didn’t spend a lot of time… But I never saw that said elsewhere.
Ive seen rows of eucalyptus in NorCal like that.
Funny, no redwood that big grow in rows.
..
What do you suppose the little guy is thinking?
You gonna eat all those yourself?}
That’s my Dad, the Banana King!
I have to admit I thought “Photoshop” when I first saw this.
Then I found this credit…

…which accompanies a National Geographic article written for kids (it’s the last one of five).
The day isn’t a complete loss, I learned something.
This strip is really very well done…especially the depiction of Roy Rogers! And, Cleo’s parting words are perfect!! LOL
I’d say they’re choice.

“Nope.”
😉 I’m sure Cleo is just going to circle around the bad guy and outflank him. 😜
yeah, let’s go with that
…eventually.
Another Marty Robbins favorite:
This always reminds me of the Ballad of Irving. (The 142nd fastest gun in the west)
“141 could draw faster than he, but Irving was looking for 143”

The video was filmed in 1960… which shows just how fashionable those girls would have been in 1965.
Of course, it depends on where you lived, too.
In 1964 the girls in the Midwest pretty much still looked like this…
In California later that year, and especially by 1965, they looked much more modern.
…
What I’d like to know is what Bobby is standing on … He’s only 5’7.
Then again, I wonder whether he’s actually singing in the same scene with those girls…
They don’t seem focused on him, or very attentive, and he never looks at them.
I think by 1960 they had the technology down well enough to use green or blue screen (chroma key) to overlay a film shot like this.
Back in the day, Stan Laurel had problems with that because of his blue eyes…
I think the audience is real, but under the eye of someone who won’t let them go.

Great story today, Nighthawks! Happy Trails! xoxo
Happy trails and good night!
Wasn’t that a bit unnerving? – I mean, all those strangers walking around on your property…
hahahahaha

not many know this, but I have it on good authority that Max vertical angle was not 80° but closer to 83°
..and I could have sworn that 2nd Launch from 40 to 70 mph was not
2.4 seconds but almost 3….they always exaggerate their success
Superb timing on this .gif.
Another nopenopenope for me. I get nauseated, looking at it too long. Yuck! 😀
Good morning Balladeers, (((((Plods))))) and Miss Susan.

Y’all snerk it up. (((((HuGz!)))))
did someone say National RUM day?
cute. Does Cleo do well on a rum boat?
Probably has to do with how much she drinks.
Root beer and rum float?
I’ll have to think about it.
The two women in front look like Sandra Oh and Sandra Bullock.
