Lt. Columbo was obviously a man of great discernment.

I believe that’s from the movie “The General” that was filmed in Oregon.

A really interesting film backstory…

I saw it a million years ago… possibly in my college film class… though back then I also attended a few silent film ‘festivals” as well.

Looked it up tonight and couldn’t stop reading this:

A few years ago, pre-Covid, the local McMenamin’s Pub had a monthly “History Pub” meeting and one of them was about the filming of “The General” near Cottage Grove, Oregon. The talk included the backstory about and why it was filmed there. It turns out one of the locomotives that was crashed was left there until the beginning of WWII, then the metal was reclaimed for the war effort. After the talk, the movie was shown in its entirety.

I’m hoping to see the History Pub return in the next year or so.

Cleo, with her arms crossed and her eyes rolled… and then back to 4 legs on a leash. Funny.

And where IS her leash while she’s standing?

Does she hold on to it, and hand it back to Claude when it’s time to walk?

….

Are they keeping her anthropomorphic traits a secret, so as not to be mobbed by a curious public… or by her many movie fans looking for autographs?

Or is it just due to Cleveland’s notoriously strict leash law?

I’m sure Cleo doesn’t want yet another night in the pokey.

Sheesh, talk about entitlement….

He expects a billion dollars for tossing in a quarter, and calls the poor well a rip-off if he doesn’t get it?

How many billions of dollars is one little well supposed to come up with, Claude?

A billion for every person who wishes there?
Does it look that rich?

There’d be a line for miles! Maybe thousands of miles.
I’d stand in line for a week. Who wouldn’t?

….

And what about a dime, or a penny? Is there a wish fulfillment minimum?

How much can you get if you toss in 10 bucks?

No, there has to be a system to it. Toss in a penny, wish for a pleasant afternoon.

A quarter… hmm… an e-mail you’re waiting for? Some good news? Finding that lost glove?

You probably have to build up to a billion dollars.

Try some selfless wishes… that a friend gets over his cold, that a homeless person finds shelter….

A cure for Covid-19…. world peace.

Then you sneak in a biggie… but maybe start with … oh, I don’t know… $423,000?…. and see how it goes.

Read the sign, it’s for wishing “well”. As in well-wishes to Susan Sunshine and Montana Lady to make it through all the fires out west.

As much as i love chocolate, i’ve got to say that it really isn’t necessary here.
Pecan pie is candy enough already. 😀

It’s fun to wish, but you don’t always get what you wish for…… especially when your wishes are outrageous. You wouldn’t know what to do with a billion dollars, Claude.

BTW, our older daughter is flying up tonight for 10 days. We are so excited! So, if I go AWOL once in a while, that’s why.

But, I don’t want to miss anything……………..

“The General” 1 hour 19 minutes”

Information (you will get it): The definition of comedy has changed over the years.

But the film! !
Well worth watching.
You will see elements of filming here, probably in their original form, and not improved on today.
Without sound the actors and actresses had to learn mime, and they did; very well.
The cue captions, for lack of an official term, set up the scenes, and from there sound is unnecessary as you know what cast are speaking about and their moods.

Whoever prepared this version for the web did a really excellent job of getting the speed close to 24 frames a second. There is very little “jerking,” and what little there is is not bothersome.
I did mute the music though, as I found it not to my liking, but that’s just me.

As always, click through the clutter. “The General” is there. (As a side note, the U.S.M.R.R. did exist throughout the Civil War, and The Western and Atlantic Railroad exists to this day.)

I wonder if the film will now be banned since it dares to potray Confederate supporters in a sympathetic light…?

He didn’t follow the instructions, he didn’t wish well. I guess “well & wealth” do sound a bit alike.
