The front-seat passenger’s hat is beautiful!

An inspiration.

A wee bit large.

It’s in Australia…. I looked at it magnified.

203 George Street, looking north from G.P.O., Sydney.

I think that awning on the left says “The Five Best Drinks for the Human Body” and suggests some odd combos, like “milk and soda”.

“Squash” in the UK is an uncarbonated bottled fruit-flavored beverage you dilute with water, ie “orange squash”, “lemon squash”… so must be that in Oz as well.

Is that a live person up on top of a building front, possibly raising or lowering the flag? you have to look at about 400%.

Picture link, the same street looking south (and more by the photographer, Henry King).
Go to “Search Collection,” type in “Henry King;” everything comes up immediately.

As a military brat, did you live in Oz to get all this useful info?

Um… no… I got it all by enlarging the picture.

I’d like to say that when I saw it at 400%, I recognised the streets….

But the truth is, I was merely typing out what’s inked in white letters on the bottom right of the photo….

The only thing I added from my personal store of knowledge is that it was taken in Australia….

because I know where Sydney is located …

Unless it’s really some other Sydney. LOL.

Inrteresting that the most common flag displayed seems to be the White Ensign. Some sort of Naval celebration?

(There would appear to have been a similar Australian “Colonial” flag, but it had stars on the Cross of St. George…)

I see a couple of what I understand to be colonial Aussie flags… the Cross of St. George first, white or blue… . with 7 stars, plus a Union Jack in the corner.

What I don’t see is anyone in uniform… Naval or otherwise.

Maybe it’s not an event, but the usual street traffic, that happens to be on some sort of civic holiday…

Or maybe on just a normal day, in a land of flag loving people?

I love looking at these old street scenes. I imagine what it was like to be there.

As for Cleo: maybe she’ll think twice the next time she considers announcing that it’s “National Run-down-a-cat-on-the-highway Day”.

The one in the back with the green eyes looks like Kiki.
With what she has too put up with from QT, don’t expect any mercy from her. XD

I got turned on to this movie by a barmaid I met for the first time today (I was reading the third book in the Travis Chase series “Deep Sky” by Patrick Lee and she asked what it was about. After I gave her the synopsis Maddie said “Oh, like the movie “Yesterday.” It kind of is and isn’t but I’m glad I met her and had that conversation).
The movie is a rom-com cum musical kind of a “Life on Mars” (if you remember that T.V. show) type thing.
If it ever made it to this side of the Atlantic, I missed it entirely.
The acting is typically “flat” well done British (sharpen your ears, because this version is English English) and the cast play off each other really well.
Basic premise: The entire world has a 12 second power failure (a very well shot montage) and Jack Malik ( a wanna-be music star played by Himesh Patel) is hit by a bus during it. When he wakes up he’s the only guy who “remembers” “The Beatles (take it from there).”
The music is terrific.

As a side note in the hospital wake-up scene Lilly James as Ellie is holding a four colour Bic pen of which I own four (nobody steals them because they think they’re weird, but I always have a pen which is the point).

Well worth the time.

I don’t think the Shadows knew anything about Indians or roping wild colts (so sad) but this was one of the many instrumental numbers that were out there when I was trying to learn guitar.

I don’t know the original language in the ring story. The English and Arabic subtitles suggest to me that the ring seller is an English speaker, and the jeweler is an Arabic speaker. Was this presented to the arabic speaking community to illustrate the kinds of good deeds that bring you blessings?

It must be some kind of demonstration, anyway.

The “store” is empty of merchandise … the “mother” looks like a teenager. The acting is horrible.

The upper right corner says “America for Arabs.”

I thought maybe it was a lesson for Arab immigrants .. being a good American, or the two cultures helping each other…. but it’s possible that your idea makes more sense.

Kinda weird.
