Howdy Cleopuzzlefans…. I doubt we have any Claudetalonfans, but if you do happen to be one, you’ve come to the right place.

We have ten of them in the two panels above (Claude talons, I mean), and nine differences… I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say that none of the differences involve Claude having gone for a pedicure.

Nor Cleo for a … um… a “snarkicure?”

….

I do believe that I know what those differences actually are, though…

and if you promise you’ll try to find them first on your own, I’ll show you the ones I found.

Just click the spoiler reveal button…

but first….

Promise?
then here you go:

I’m thrilled any time I can find them all, and this time I found ’em fast. As in < 6 minutes. Must be the extra carrots I ate this week.

I didn’t eat enough carrots, I missed an obvious one, and it took me about 12 minutes for the eight I did get. ☹

I know, I’m an old fart. But I do follow modern music. And I just don’t get Billie Eilish. I understand that she is reacting against costume trends of Gen X and Gen Y. But I don’t get the whispering instead of singing. Were it not for her brother producing interesting music, there would be nothing to listen to.

She’s still a teenager, unless she’s 20 now, finding her style.

Till last year, she didn’t have a lot of confidence in her looks (even though IMHO she’s quite beautiful), partly because 3she became overweight in her late teens.

That’s very common in adolescence, both the weight gain and the insecurity… and sadly, a lot of kids that age are very judgemental and cliquish.

Besides being an anti-fashion statement, the extremely baggy clothes and multicolored hair hid her body, and let her be more comfortable on stage.

I’m not a celebrity news follower … But I do know that someone had posted a snapshot of her on vacation, wearing a tank top, and all her fears came true. There was a ton of criticism of her appearance.

Dunno whether she actually lost weight, or simply matured, but she got tired of thinking she should be judged by her shape…

She did a video where she strips down to a fancy bra, as if to say “so what.”

….

Since then, she’s been remaking her image, appearing in makeup, all-blonde hair, silky clothes and lingerie… which I think is partly ironic… more an act of defiance than a self-image change.

To go with it, a lot of her songs are in a sort of sultry chanteuse mode. Her voice has always been soft, but now it’s wispier.

Especially in that “Bad Boy” video… It like she’s whispering behind her tough-guy boyfriend’s back…

Conspiratorially explaining the relationship, revealing what she really thinks of him, and somewhat mocking his macho pose….

And she doesn’t want him to hear it, only us.

And here is a really good shortbread recipe from my mother’s cookbook she hand-wrote for me after I left home (it’s from the “Hanover Post”). If you make them, I know you’ll be pleased. The instructions, though simple, are long, so I put them in the spoiler box.

Short Bread All ingredients and most instructions: “Hanover Post” (Ontario)

1 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cups sifted flour
1/4 teaspoon almond extract

Shortbread Instructions
Butter must be soft enough to handle but not so soft that it is oily. Remove all lumps from the brown sugar. Pack down firmly in the cup. Cream butter till light and fluffy. This is important. Butter should be literally like whipped cream when you have finished working with it. Add almond extract. Then start adding the sugar. Add gradually about 2 tablespoons at a time. Blend in thoroughly after each addition.

Add flour gradually. Add 1 or two tablespoons at a time. Blend well after each addition. The 2 cups is not enough for this recipe, but more is added on the board.

When 2 cups have been added start working with the hands. Sprinkle about 1 tablespoon of flour at a time on bake board. Turn dough onto bake board and knead it with the hands working in the flour from the board. The idea is to work in enough flour to make a smooth dough but not enough to make it crack. It may take up to 3 or 4 tablespoons after you start working on the board. Knead the dough gently to work in the flour.

Then pat dough into an oblong or round about 1/4-inch in thickness. Gently smooth the top with a light roll of a lightly floured rolling pin. Use lightly floured cookie cutters for desired shapes. Cut dough carefully and place on ungreased baking sheet about an inch apart. Prick each piece with fork or a toothpick.

Bake in moderate oven 350° for about 15 minutes. Watch carefully so shortbread does not get too brown. When done shortbread will be a very light golden brown colour. It will be evenly baked.

When done remove sheet from oven. Allow to stand about 2 minutes. Then carefully lift shortbreads out with an egg lifter. Place on platter or cake racks to cool. When completely cold shortbread should be stored in a tightly covered tin, which is lined with waxed paper. Place in layers with waxed paper between layers. Store in a cool dry place.

Shortbread may be decorated before it is baked if desired. Use green cherries, silver balls, or tiny red candies.

Notes from me:
I use a preheated 350° F. oven.
Bake on third oven rack (Top rack is first)
From experience, keep a very close eye on the oven from the 8 minute mark depending on the weather and your altitude (I’m not kidding) the cooking time will vary.

I made 2 batches of lemon cookies today. Star shape red and green with the cookie press and lemon glaze on top. Tomorrow will be fudge and 2 batches of hopscotch crunchies. Have to get the baking done by next weekend so I can mail some off to family in Florida by 12/18.
