Maybe it’s the lighting, but that picture looks 3D.
So clear you can even see the special, shiny luster in the red stripes… the sugar in them has been stretched and pulled into long, parallel filaments, almost like fiber-optic cable.
Love the reel-to-reel and rotary dial on the attendant console. Buttons to dial other connected phones? Is that a card feeder below the keyboard? Foot pedals for what? What’s that under the couch with an antenna? I’m lost on some of those goodies, but I’m sure they made sense to the artist when it was drawn.
What is below (actually to the left) of the keyboard is a paper tape punch and reader. Yes, I used them. Of course, the obvious thing missing is the humongous television camera that should be mounted on top of the monitor so the other person can see you.
My own thought is the thing with the aerial is the remote control.
My first flip phone had an aerial, but the one I own now does not (it’s at least 8 years old / it does have blue tooth and cludgy internet access).
At 03:06 hrs. E.S.T. I discovered that zooming up the article picture doesn’t distort it. You can read it directly from the magazine (that makes it more fun for me / but then I like to get as close to the original source of information as I can).
Well, Iliked the comic with the lame joke. That may not be a recommendation worth quoting, however. My reputation as a comedy critic is, shall we say, suspect.
A neutron walks into a bar and orders a drink. When the neutron gets his drink, he asks, “Bartender, how much do I owe you?” The bartender replies, “For you, neutron, no charge.
@ bambushie From yesterday ( Re: “Like” viewing beyond 5).
I hope the attachment I put below helps.
It’s as detailed as it is, because some might not know even the first step.
Left click on it to make it larger and readable. .
Well, we now know that the method for viewing more than five likes I illustrated in my comment above doesn’t work with the Firefox browser, or the Firefox browser/Ubuntu operating system combination, and I’ll admit that WordPress programming probably doesn’t help, but having looked up both sites, I’ll say this:
About Unbuntu:
I have read enough training, technical, and general instruction manuals in the course of my life, to recognize when the writer(s) are trying impress the reader with what the writer(s) knows/(know), than really trying to pass any knowledge on to the reader.
The blather on this site puts it firmly in the “impress the reader with what the writer(s) knows(know)” category.
You may disagree with me, but remember that the site is supposedly designed to get any reader (regardless of computer skills) to download the program. If the reader can’t understand the site’s meant-to-impress blather, how likely is a subsequent download? Not very, I’d say.
About Firefox:
The system requirements section says it operates within versions of the Windows or macOS operating systems.
There is no clear statement by Firefox anywhere that I found that says “Firefox does “X” better than (any other search engine’s name here).”
It does say it doesn’t allow tracking, period, but why is there a “small fee” for “extra protection?”
If it doesn’t allow tracking, it doesn’t allow tracking; or does it?
All in all, not a site with a very high integrity side in my opinion.
I tried your method with Chromium – doesn’t work either.
I’m familiar with installing and running programs via terminal; thank you very much.
But what does that have to do with anything?
Remember the different methods to register and get an avatar?
Same.
.
Nope. Not me.
Don’t look now, Bitey, but there’s a snack swimming right overhead.
That’s a whole lot of nope
candy cane day!
This… …LINK… …is just for crediting. The attachment is all you need (and probably want, if you want anything).
Maybe it’s the lighting, but that picture looks 3D.

Nice photography, for such a simple subject.
We’ve been there and saw this guy in 2016.
Fun to watch… did you buy some?
I was wondering whether you could taste the corn starch.
….
I sometimes watch a YouTube channel called EmmyMade…. she makes or tries all sorts of international foods…
I’ve watched her make a similar Asian candy, called Dragon’s Beard, but out of sugar syrup, not honey…
and it’s also full of cornstarch.
….
Chinese hand pulled noodles, called la mian, are made in a similar way, doubling and redoubling a stretched “rope”… this time wheat dough.
….
Here are old fashioned candy canes being made at Disneyland… also stretched and re-stretched sugar syrup, but no starch.
…
It all takes a lot of practice!
imagine that..

Is it under the couch? Looks like it could be attached to the arm of the chair?
It is attached to the chair.
What is below (actually to the left) of the keyboard is a paper tape punch and reader. Yes, I used them. Of course, the obvious thing missing is the humongous television camera that should be mounted on top of the monitor so the other person can see you.
…not a creature was stirring, and there’s no mouse in sight
Thank you, Mr. David Gunter ! !
I think it’s worth reading the whole of his posting at the link, but if you just want his transcription, scroll down.
THIS LINK TAKES YOU TO A TRANSCRIPTION OF THE FULL ARTICLE THAT ACCOMPANIES THE ILLUSTRATION

And now, it’s time I went to bed. Good night.
That joke is more stand-up than it is family strip. 😀
Worm week!
Just no.
Nope. Not me, either.
Is this NOPE day?
Well, I liked the comic with the lame joke. That may not be a recommendation worth quoting, however. My reputation as a comedy critic is, shall we say, suspect.
I’ve been a suspect for a long time. You’ll get used to it.
Now where’s the smiley face emoji?
I’m with you guys. It’s rare that I spontaneously laugh out loud when reading a comic strip, I did with this one! Just ask Nighthawks! He heard me!

Aren’t they called “counter chairs” now? (Wait, what – not “dung beetles” anymore?) (rim shot)
Yeah, it was better than some Cleo strips, but for a steady diet of those quickies, I can ask Alexa.
I hope the attachment I put below helps.

Not with Firefox and Ubuntu, sorry.
Doesn’t work on my Windows10 laptop with Firefox, either.
If my cursor leaves the number circle, even to go to the right click menu, the list of names closes.
….
About one try in a zillion, I can hold down the left mouse button and slide it to the list. I got better results on my old laptop.
The only thing that consistently works for me is to use my finger on the touch screen… luckily, this is a touch-screen laptop.
Or, open Cleo on a tablet or phone, and use that touchscreen to view the names… it doesn’t close in Android.
….
I don’t know about iOs… but probably works on an iPad.
Thank you
Snerks… A lot of the time Garfield is laying on top of the table. Maybe that’s the secret.
Happy Two Turtle Dove day to everyone. Hope y’all had a good holiday. It’s been nutz around here for the last ten days.
And we had a few gifts to wrap and unwrap.
Any hoover, gotta try to find the couch. Y’all have a great day.
(((((HuGz!)))))
OMG! A tree of presents. All you need is to turn a couple of kids loose on that.
We have those. Kids that is. 2 Great littles.
Wholly Moses! Is that an accurate depiction of your tree? How long before you can get out of the poor house?
It seemed like it, but no, just the first 4 layers. Snerks
I’m spending my kid’s inheritance
@nighthawks – It’s true you are the WHOOSH king, but you need to up your FOOMP game:
.

Funny!!
I’m thrilled to be the king of ANYthing, Y.O.S.
I always thought that two FOOMPS couldn’t even hold a candle to one well-placed WHOOSH

I’m bringing the attachment below over from yesterday’s Ripley’s.
I find it funny.
Yes that stool is taken but you can have that crap over there.
Good to see you here, Vet!! It’s been ages since the good ol’ days on Ballard St.!
