This might be before Captain Kangaroo got the “Grandpa” wig he affected for so many years.
Behind him are cut-out wooden wall plaques depicting Little Bo Peep and two of her sheep. I had that exact set on my bedroom wall…
My sister had Little Miss Muffet, and my brother had… um… OK, I guess I’ve forgotten. OH! He had Little Boy Blue.
Why do I remember at all? Well, my sister and I shared a room, and I stared at Little Bo Peep on my wall through military moves and different schools… until I was seventeen, and left for college.
I put together six Sidney Poitier Movies from the usual source.
I took the earliest the site had, picked four in the middle, and then his last film as an actor.
{Lilies of the Field was edited in at 07:58 E.S.T, so there are now seven}
Blackboard Jungle — The Defiant Ones— A Raisin in the Sun— The Long Ships— Shoot to Kill— The Jackal
The pictures are the links (as always, click through the clutter and go full screen).
Thanks for posting those movies, Alexi. Shoot to Kill was one of my husband’s and my favorite movies….. but I don’t think there’s a Sidney Poitier movie that we didn’t like! He was an actor’s actor.
So sad to have lost two greats (Betty White and Sidney Poitier) in the last week and a half!
You forgot his first, No Way Out, which many Southern theaters refused to show, possibly because Portier played a doctor instead of a butler or porter.
OK, puzzle pals and Cleofans… here I am to answer the question of whether your solution is correct.
Had I known how many of you would be finished, I’d have tried to be a bit earlier… lately that hasn’t been happening, so I’m afraid I let myself get a little sidetracked.

Awwww. Puppy love!
Ditto what Montana Lady said!
Written at a time when diesel locomotives were so new they were specified.
Love, love, love Mighty Manfred the Wonder Dog!!!!
Found a caption on an unsigned version.
Since they’re characters I’ll just post it.
From left: Dancing Bear, Bunny Rabbit, Captain Kangaroo, Grandfather Clock, Mister Moose, and Mister Green Jeans.
BUNNY!
Give him a bunch of carrots, Captain. 😀
Wow, so young.

And yes, I got all nine.

Blackboard Jungle
The Defiant Ones
A Raisin in the Sun
The Long Ships
Lilies of the Field
Shoot to Kill
The Jackal
Don’t forget ‘Lilies of the Field’.
It’s there now. I edited it in.
Thanks! It’s one of our favorites.

I remember The Long Ships well, but never realized that was Sidney Poitier in the role!
You forgot his first, No Way Out, which many Southern theaters refused to show, possibly because Portier played a doctor instead of a butler or porter.
I got nine right away!
Dude, yer slipping. 😀
Same here. I just hope they are the right nine.
You hear that, Nighthawks? Time to start making them tougher again!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I finally got 9!! (I think!) It was fun to find them all!
(OK…we’ll keep in on the QT for a while, then.)
I got all nine pretty quickly too.
heard and understood
You weren’t supposed to!
I did, too.
I did too too!!!☺

Yep, got the right nine. Thanks Susan!
Woo Hoo! 😀
Same here!
better late than never, got them all for a change!
Got em. I like the puzzles where I do not have to use my magnifying glass. What was the original caption on this toon?
Me too. I like to relax with the puzzle, not get eyestrain (I get enough of that at work).
no caption; it never was a daily comic…..It’s just a scene I put together for the purpose of the puzzle
I love those dance compilations. They can keep me up past my bedtime. Also glad to see the Bangles.
9! (and great musical selections too!)
Nine of these things aren’t like the others. Nine of these things are just not the same…..
Can you tell there’s a toddler in the house?
Good morning puzzle phans!
Dust off your rubber ducky because it’s National Bubble Bath Day!
NATIONAL JOYGERM DAY no vaccination required. Just spread happiness.
(((((HuGz!)))))
…
That is gorgeous! Quite a project.
Wish I lived there!
Maybe the bedroom up in the crow’s nest?
Or the captain’s quarters on the second floor?
The ground floor seems to be under water.
I’d go for the crowsnest, but I’m afraid I might meet the same fate as the Crowsnest Guys from “Overboard…”
…
Great imagination.
Both are the art of: Gert Neuhaus
Not so gorgeous, but pretty fantastic!
I have a hard time seeing it as the flat wall that I’m sure it really is.
With the shaped top edge, it looks like a protruding half round, windowless addition to the building, instead of the end wall…
Especially since we can’t see the bottom, to confirm that it doesn’t take up extra space along the sidewalk.
