I, for one, am willing to take the plunge and jump in there beneath all those blankets with Betty to help her stay warm. Cause I’m just that kind of guy.

Here’s the full cartoon. You might have to play around with the sound buttons.

That only looks like enough for a 1¼ dog night.

An ariticle about      JUNE VALENTINE RUPPE,     and a caption about this painting in the attachment from     HERE

Incidentally, taking the English dimensions as exact their exact translations to metric are these:

‘On Vincent’s Mind’ by @mathijs_vissers #vangoghinspires

Mathijs Vissers: “Had some fun working with various public domain images of Van Gogh’s work. A lot of thought went into Vincent’s work, a lot of pondering and reflection as well. I thought it would be an interesting idea to visualise this.”

Dum, dee, dum,dum ~ has our hero met his end??? He is a darn good detective to figure out she was behind this. He should have brought along back-up, though. 👮‍♂️👮‍♂️

Just because….

Chicago has some weird practices to keep its trains running.     LINK     I have never seen this done anywhere in Canada, and I’ve seen many a train moving along at well below 0° F..

I’m skeptical because of the web site. It’s called itemfix dot com, and it carries these words at the top of the page: “Be the first one to fix this item.” Beneath that is a link showing moving trains passing over flaming tracks in two directions and on separate tracks. I, too have never seen that, and I have seen trolleys operate in sub-zero temps routinely, as well as Amtrak.

At this point in the site loading… and it’s been a while… no picture or link is showing to tell me what you guys are talking about, not even in the spoiler tab.

But if it’s flames under the tracks, to warm them, I’ve read about that before, and seen video.

….

Nothing is burning except jets of piped in gas, not the ties or anything else under the train.

It still looks.dangerous, to me… what if there’s a tanker car of something flammable?

But apparently they’ve been doing it a long time…

And it’s done in some rural areas, as well.

I didn’t do the spoiler box spacing properly. It’s now been edited; you should be able to see it now without clicking on the U.R.L.    🙂

Re: Sign In

From yesterday.

As I said a few days back (I think it was only days) I choose to sign in each time I visit.
But while I do have my password memorized, I don’t type it in.
I have it as a line on my comment preparing page, and copy it before going to the log in box.
I type in my user name, and then paste the password into the box; hit enter, and I’m in.

The attachment may be of interest to somebody, I don’t know.

Not if you actually prefer, as Alexi says he does, to sign in every time.

x_Tech didn’t stay signed in anywhere either.
He said it was to guard against hackers and keyloggers.

The rest of us… Yeah.

I wouldn’t stay signed in at my bank… But what is someone going to do on the comics? Post as me? I’ll change my account.

And I’m not too worried about keyloggers, in my own home and not on any network, except my password protected internet access.

But to each his own… We all have our own standards for feeling secure.

If the link doesn’t work for you now, either I miscopied the U.R.L. I wanted (   ME‽    MISCOPY‽   ) or the site has a time triggered blocker against linking to individual sound effects.

Here’s the U.R.L.

Well, what do you know?

The site does have a time restriction!

You’ll have to trim out the U.R.L. and use it.

The ” [audio src = …] “ bracketing it wasn’t posted by me, and doesn’t show when I go to edit. I’m guessing it’s a part of the programming that restricts the time.

I found this disturbing on many levels; but really, really, interesting.
I’m almost ashamed to admit that throughout my entire life, it had never occurred to me that both sides in any war would put out propaganda posters (particularly when I know both sides in any war award military honours to its respective troops).

Oh my……

I suspected that by episode 5, Miss Behave would be aiming something dangerous in Sam Basset’s direction…

But I thought it would be her… um… her …eyes.
Yup. That’s what I thought it would be… her eyes.

But here he is, staring down the barrel of her Smith and Wesson 38, instead…

At least… it might be a Smith and Wesson 38.

What do I know from guns?

Only that if you see something like that pointing at you… you shouldn’t do anything foolish.

And that if something like that happens often… you really might want to think about a different career path.

Meanwhile… I believe Sam Basset sees red in those scratches … even though it’s a grey car.

At least, in a black and white comic, it’s grey.

But for a positive ID… shouldn’t we see the red too?

Oh wait…I do!
I see it.
Took me a while; it’s such a tiny touch.

Good eyes, Sam, to find it so quickly…. Though they may have tipped you off in rehearsals.

Sherpa cartoonists don’t get paid…

C&C productions probably couldn’t afford much more of that special glowing red ink, after painting a whole car with it.

They probably had to paint that car twice themselves too, red and then gray, instead of taking it to Maaco or Earl Scheib.

Or maybe that would be Muuttco or Earl Schauzer. Still too expensive.

Just a big bottle of gray pixels, and some elbow grease.

Google type research indicates that a cereal box is typically 8 inches wide. Accepting.
That’s a very small mask even for a pre-teen of pretty much any age.
Scaling it out, I come up with 5 1/2 inches outside ear edge to outside ear edge, and 1 57/64 inches centre to centre on the eye holes.

Alpine Marmot

BING Picture Of The Day
2.2.2022

from BING:
Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day is a traditional holiday celebrated on February 2. According to folklore, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, then spring will come early; if it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, and the winter weather will persist for six more weeks.

If you’re reading this for the first time, Happy Groundhog Day! And if you’re reading this for the hundredth or thousandth time, we wish you luck in breaking out of your infinite time loop. Then you can join the rest of us as we either brace for six more weeks of winter or sigh with relief that fair weather’s on the way—depending, of course, on the shadow of a certain burrowing rodent.

Actually, this confrontational-looking rodent isn’t a groundhog but an alpine marmot. Groundhogs are in the marmot family and both rodents share similar burrowing habits. But the groundhog is unusual in that it lives at low elevations, unlike most marmots, which are mountain-bound.

So, does it count if a marmot sees its shadow on Groundhog Day? Only time will tell—well, assuming the day doesn’t reset as soon as you go to bed.

Quote of the day

To be interested in the changing seasons is a happier state of mind than to be hopelessly in love with spring.
—George Santayana
