Say, Nighthawks…. I was just wondering…

Is this predilection of yours for streetcorners a carryover from a misspent youth?

Or are you maybe still looking for the lady with the dog?

I… um.. I thought that was only cruel and unusual pun-ishment.

Puns from me are nothing unusual.

Happy Birthday, Eiffel Tower!
Locally, it’s called ‘La dame de fer,’ which translates to English as ‘The Iron Lady.’

To the rest of the world, it’s the Eiffel Tower, a landmark nearly synonymous with all
things Parisian. It’s one of the most recognizable structures in the world and the most
visited monument with an entrance fee. The Eiffel Tower took 500 workers two years, two months, and five days to complete. Most of the structural work was finished by the end of March 1889 and to celebrate, the builders led a group of government officials and
journalists to the top of the tower on March 31. It was, at the time, the highest
man-made structure in the world.

With the addition of a new radio antenna on March 15, 2022, the Eiffel Tower grew an
additional 20 feet and is now 1,083 feet tall, just in time for its 133rd birthday.

Warm weather in summer causes the iron in the structure to expand, so the Eiffel Tower
actually grows by up to around 7 inches. On a particularly windy day, if you look closely,
maybe you’ll notice the natural swaying movement of the tower near the top. That wind gets collected by turbines on the second level, which convert it into electricity for the tower’s shops and restaurants. There’s also a rainwater collection system that’s used for the toilet tanks.

The Eiffel Tower gets a fresh paint job roughly every seven years. Originally it was dark red, then yellow, but has been ‘Eiffel Tower Brown’ for the past 54 years. It takes around 16,000 gallons of paint to get the job done.

Wow… they did a remarkable job of making this copy look just like the real one I saw at the county fair in 2015.

It was made entirely out of toothpicks.

Imagine taking big chunks of iron and painstakingly reproducing the look of over 115,000 toothpicks.

Kudos to those French guys.

A harmless April Fool’s joke?

Well, this is the sort of thing that night make Cleo wash her hands of the whole thing.

Or at least, her interest will take a big dip.
She won’t be able to drum up any enthusiasm.

She DID make a bit of a splash… but the drum has never been something she planned to get into too deeply.

At this point, I don’t think even the snare drum would catch her fancy.

Then again… you might not.

But I might.

So it’s the old pudding skin masquerading as a drum head trick, eh? Very clever, Siegfried, but you’ll never get away with it. The lady has a flamethrower. It’ll be creme brulee before you know what hit you.

Loved “Up in Smoke” … Cheech and Chong’s first movie. They started getting a bit too carried away after a few.

When I hear “Low Rider”, though, I think first of the George Lopez show… it was the theme song for that, too, about 25 years later.

Of course, the actual band making the music is War.

i had all four of our kids via ”c-section”. she was due to be born on April 1st. it took us about 4 seconds to ask the surgeon to change that to March 31st!!

so, i see the tradition of grade school pranks still exist. poor Cleo.
