SusanSunshine (Recipient of a spectacular and well deserved birthday celebration yesterday. I wish you 🌞 🍭 🍭 and 🌈 🌈 🌈 everywhere in the coming year.)
(about your experimental post to “Brevity,” Thursday)
From the wording in your post I suspect you were more-or-less curious to see if the comic would come in “directly” as opposed to any kind of link.
I tried every which way I could think of (including snake-swallowing-its-tail by putting the same U.R.L. for both the destination page and the picture link), but I did not have any success.
The rest of this is what I have discovered works.
I’ve put an attachment below to show how your post showed up for me (it’s the first part).
Left clicking on your posted link takes one directly to “Brevity,” but it doesn’t open in a new window.
You’ll lose the “Cleo and Company” page if you close just clicking the red “X.”
Right clicking and opening in a new window or tab again takes you without fuss to “Brevity,” and closing by clicking the “X” brings the “Cleo and Company” page back from behind.
The old-style codings for posting “live” links from GoComics work here too.
I’ve taken the liberty of posting both a description triggered…
The same “opening” rules apply to these as do to your link. If you’ve lost the coding forms in your computer’s junk drawer:
I couldn’t get the coding forms to post as coding here, so they’re posted as the second part of the attachment (right click on the attachment click “Open link in new window” and it comes to full size and will be easily read).
I tried to hide the rest of this using a spoiler tag so it wouldn’t take up so much room… but it worked unexpectedly. Sorry guys.
…
I wasn’t looking for a different way to post a link… bare ones are fine with me…
but if I wanted to use the HTML codes I still mostly know them by heart…
and have made and saved tons of ready to use phrases (strings) ready to fill and copy, from when we could use them on GoComics…
which BTW was until some time in October 2016.
…
Anyway, we also have a hyperlink button right here in the formatting toolbar that I haven’t played with yet…
I’m guessing it works like they do elsewhere, to allow descriptive text to be easily substituted for a bare link without even knowing the HTML.
…
My impression so far is that here on WordPress most code executes when posted, instead of displaying visibly.
I’ve been meaning to try the < code > tags to display it instead, but haven’t. Is that what didn’t work for you?
…
My question, and test, arose, OTOH, because the page I linked to for you, about the Titanic, posted with the top part embedded in the forum, rather than as a link.
I didn’t want that to happen with “Brevity”, and have everybody only read the cartoon… or I would have linked directly to an image file, not the whole page.
…
I was being teased about consulting on a pun filled “Brewster Rockitt” strip…
so I wanted people to actually open the “Brevity” page, instead of seeing the top of it here…
and read all the punny posts there…. and in particular… cough… mine.
OOO….Kaaaayy…
When I first posted the English version of the poster it showed up just fine as a poster.
baconboycamper and MontanaLady seem to have seen it as a poster too.
Then it fell into the black hole of “comment image.” Why? How? Who knows.
Now I can’t even get the U.R.L. to post properly to form a link.
The best I can do, is give you the U.R.L. of the internet page where I found it.
Firefox – Ubuntu again:
I used your link above (right-clicked and chose “Open Link in New Tab”),
right-clicked there, chose “View Page Info”,
chose “Media” from the window that opened,
went to the image above, copied the link, pasted it here and
edited it a bit – i.e. deleted everything after the .jpg
Thanks to all three of you (Alexi, Tigressy and Susan….oh, my!) for locating an English language version of Elizabeth – The Golden Age. Due to a time crunch the other night, the only one I could find in that crunch was in Japanese.
NOW……..the one I really want (who can find it???) is the same poster with Elizabeth I (Cate Blanchett) grasping the royal orb and the royal sceptre. I know that I used that particular original poster because that’s why I substituted with the biscuits. I would be eternally grateful if someone could find it…..that would make that particular folder complete.
Thank you all so much!
(It takes a village to make a movie poster! Ooooh….I think I’m still a little tipsy from the birthday bash!)
Since you can see a “big green delete button” I’m wondering if you’re actually logged in with an account, or as a guest.
If you’re logged in as an account holder you’ll have a “Howdy, P51 Strega (your avatar picture) bar in the upper right of the site page.
If you are logged in you’ll also see an underlined instruction statement directly under your comment (only after you have refreshed your screen to put your comment in its designated spot in the order) saying “Click to Edit” with a countdown timer to its right; and the option boxes it brings up after clicking on it are grey, not green.
Click on “Delete,” confirm using the pop-up dialogue box, and you’re comment is deleted.
I’ve put an attachement below that I hope I have made clear enough to show what I’ve described. ( right click on the attachment and open it in a new window so you don’t lose this page)
Thank you. 1) I am definitely logged in; 2) I didn’t refresh my screen (thanks for that step); 3) I was working on the card I posted, which may be why I had a green “Delete” button (I wanted to replace it with a smaller version).
Most importantly, my question has been answered: it’s the refresh trick.
Thanks, Susan, I like to use your side-by-side in combination with the top-and-under… Sometimes one version works better for me than the other. In today’s, I got the final (#10) variant using your side-by-side, I just couldn’t make that one out as well on the top-and-under…

I think I’ve found all ten. This would be the first time in a while that I have found them all.
I meant to post this right after the side-by-side…
I think my brain is still overloaded!
Just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who worked on, added to, or just attended yesterday’s party, and wished me a happy birthday!
…
My dear friend StelBel, especially, of course… my old co-conspirator in the Ballard Street birthday game,
that is, fellow original member of the three “Ladies in Party Hats.”
I’m overwhelmed by all you did.
A special… and spectacular… announcement, a magnificent cake…
and pictures of feasting… so many posts; so much labor…
Thank you!
…
OTOH, Gerard, my friend… you’re totally new to that game, and you brought so much to it. Thank you, too…
And thanks, Nighthawks... for hosting us all here, of course… and for the animated birthday card I still treasure…
And speaking of animation… for bringing back Blackjack.
I should also mention the beautiful if mysterious cakes…
and trying to drive everyone away with horrible food and… ewwww…. bugs! Maybe I should leave that part out…
…
In NO particular order, believe me… thanks to Plods, Dennis, Liverlips, Arfside, JP Steve, Montana Lady, Alexikakos, Bambushie, Tigressy, P51Strega,… for special cakes and cards and food and music
and to everybody... including Perkycat, Grog, Saint, Dorothea, SheMc, Happyx3, Baconboy, Impkins, Peam, for your much-appreciated good wishes, and Rotifer, and Katina., To my old and dear friend, and my boss…Sheriff MonkeyBlues… for coming back… I HOPE!
And to anybody I hope I’m not accidentally leaving out… cos a list like this is always fraught, and risky…
even just for stopping by, some venturing here for the first or merely a rare time.
…
I appreciate and am grateful for you all...
and for being given a special party like yesterday’s.

https://www.cinematerial.com/movies/elizabeth-the-golden-age-i414055/p/rw65lfyp
As a side note, I doubt it’s the one you based your poster on as Cate Blanchett is not holding an orb or sceptre. ☹
Thanks, Alexi!!
You’re welcome. 🙂
Firefox – Ubuntu again:
I used your link above (right-clicked and chose “Open Link in New Tab”),
right-clicked there, chose “View Page Info”,
chose “Media” from the window that opened,

Will this do, you guys?
I don’t really understand your sentence, Alexi…. about getting the U.R.L. to post properly to form a link….
But I went to that web page, though, where right-clicking the poster offered no “save” or “view image” choices.
I finagled away to save it, though… and put it on Postmage.
…
Oops… I keep forgetting to refresh.
My most recent one shows that Tigressy posted the same image a few minutes ahead of me, no doubt while I was typing my comment.
We apparently obtained it the same way, via the page info…. but I saved it and she linked to it.
…
Normally I would delete mine on seeing the duplication…
but I’m leaving it because I had uploaded it to PostImage.
…
That site has already returned different results to links…
Just in case it turns out that they’re actively blocking repeat hot-linking, which happens, the PostImage one should remain stable.

…to my comment to,
Katina Cooper;
on March 28, where where I hope you’ll at the very least get a lead or two on how to get your account operative.
(again, right click on the link and open it in a new window so you don’t lose this page)
Is that image of the mysterious Katina Cooper your fantasy?
That’s her avatar.
Sometimes it’s appropriate to keep silent.
Huh?

I found all ten in eight minutes.
Got em. I prefer when the changes do not require fine measurements. Maybe that makes them too easy for some?
Just keep that micrometer handy!
Here I am; here I am….
with a side by side version for them as still needs it.
Let me get that posted and then I can comment some more.
Thanks, Susan, I like to use your side-by-side in combination with the top-and-under… Sometimes one version works better for me than the other. In today’s, I got the final (#10) variant using your side-by-side, I just couldn’t make that one out as well on the top-and-under…

Less than a minute – and after I’ve seen the “10” I got that in a blink of an eye… too little sleep, too little coffee yet… worth it: great party!!!
StelBel’s posting (the one with all the residents from yesteryear) reminded me: Has anyone tried to contact Bev yet about the new whereabouts?
You have to – just have to keep your hands and fingers to yourself.
Got all of them. Maybe tomorrow we can see what happens when Claude pushes the button. Let’s hope he lets go of the leash first.
I meant to post this right after the side-by-side…

Welcome…left instructions on BS for next year.
You are most welcome. What a party that was!
It was a great party, can’t remember when I have had so much fun, I’m stuffed!
Meanwhile… it’s past time to post the solution!
I wouldn’t want to leave Claude staring forever at that button,
or any of you wondering whether you got them all right…
though, as ever, if it’s different, it’s different.
…
So do your best… and when searching has begun to push your buttons, and it’s truly time to check…
got all ten, got nine before I tried the side by side!
Got ’em! My first covid shot, a tax rebate and a ten on Nighthawk’s puzzle — must be my lucky week!
Yay!
Don’t forget to buy a lottery ticket!!
Now that would jinx it for sure!

Not even “Dirty Harry Callahan” with his speed loader could reload that fast.
We must conclude that Blackjack Basset is the proud owner of an equally legendary seven-gun.

Yes. 😉
