I used to sometimes go to an usual little store, run by a fierce gray haired Russian lady of indeterminate age.

She sold Russian crafts, some European canned and packaged foods, and had a deli.

There were wooden shelves of candy just like these, only not so tall.

….

It was imperative to check the date on anything you thought to buy for actual consumption.

One time, thinking to be helpful, I whispered to her, so no other customers would hear, that she might want to check some little tins of candies, because the ones I looked at were three years out of date.

She started yelling at me, saying I was a horrible customer, and to never come back.

I had just spent I think $15 in the deli section… I was very nervous about eating what I’d bought.

….

I didn’t get sick, and the store is still there.

I doubt she still runs it, but I’ll never go back anyway.

That’s scary. I was going to say that this picture makes me want to be a cat …. but now I don’t think so. Three year old candy might be okay to eat, but I’m no guinea pig.

I think the mushroom tea might be a clue about the artist here.

A little unsettling, seeing Jack in pieces like that.

Ok, if you can figure out the complicated geometry, you’re supposed to put pins through the dots for the pieces to rotate on.

How long are these pins? How do they stay in the holes?

Looking at the small diagram…. Maybe you’re supposed to bend them to lie flat on the back… not easy.

Then “put” little squares of cardboard over the pins…. glue them? Tape them? Won’t that keep the joints from moving?

…..

I was going to say that instructions for these projects have improved over the years, but I recently bought some DIY pop-up floral greeting cards at Wal-Mart.

They were quite inexpensive, and the pieces are at least pre-cut, but the directions for assembly are about equally obscure.

A parody of the Rockwell, no doubt, though not quite as honest a portrayal of its subject.

Not that Rockwell wasn’t trying to include a wee bit of cosmetic enhancement.

So every Basset aspires to be a German Shepherd? Well, I can’t blame them.

Made me laugh. I was thinking ‘Excuse me, your are in my way. Could you move a little to the left’. But, I guess the one is saying ‘Excuse me, mate, want to mate?’.

Better practice, Cleo.

Ask Claude to take you out a few times to brush up.

Otherwise, if you get another barking ticket, they might make you pass a test when it’s time to renew your dog license.

You don’t want to get caught without current tags.

That German Shepherd with the cats is too cute. Especially when they are exchanging play bites.

This reminded me of the person who said ‘ I hate when there are people around when I am trying to parallel park!’ I hope I never have to parallel park again. My husband is good at it. I’ve never tried parallel barking, but it sounds like fun.

Cleo is spending altogether too much time hanging around with Claude – and Nighthawks.
