Kansas City, Missouri. Junction of Main and Delaware Streets.
The date cut off on top is 1906…. 120 years ago, or 109 years before the second picture.
But the destruction didn’t slowly happen for 100 years… It was a massive urban renewal project (some renewal!) when they tore down all those buildings to make room for the highway.
Funny, a lot of sites labeled the streets, but I didn’t find one that said what year this crime … uh… project… occured.
What direction to GoComics headquarters? It’s on Walnut Street… but I don’t know Kansas City. Oh well, they don’t allow visitors anyway.
Yeah, I haven’t been to one either. I hope they don’t still torture the staff with matching outfits.
I very occasionally have to go into a different mini mart to pay for my gas, on the rare occasion I need some when I can’t get to Costco… but even that is maybe once a year, or less.
I don’t know if it’s the year or because it’s not 7-11, but they seem more self-service… get your own coffee, or hot dog (no thanks) and soda, and bring it to the cashier.
Yeah, I always love it when actors casually handle “gold” bars.
A standard gold bar, like the ones banks use, and the ones in Fort Knox, is close to the size of a brick, and in movies, they handle a fake one as though it were a brick, or there’s really a brick under the gold paint (though it should be a slightly different shape).
But a real gold bar weighs about 27 pounds.
You don’t just toss one around, or nonchalantly hold two or three.
A network photoshoot they’d pretty obviously all rather be doing something else than…
“This CBS promotional photo shows the young stars of the 1962 tv season including Tony Dow and Jerry Mathers (Leave It To Beaver), Angela Cartwright (The Danny Thomas Show), Mike Winkelman (The Real McCoys), Noreen Corcoran (Bachelor Father), Bobby Clark (Casey Jones) and Karen Green and Gail Stone (The Eve Arden Show).”
That’s out of order… I believe it goes, from left… Karen Green, Bobby Clark, Mike Winkelman, Noreen Corcoran, then up the ladder, Jerry Mathers and Tony Dow… below them, Gail Stone standing behind Angela Cartwright.
Looks like a typical car meet, with fancy cars going by. The camera person is filming the supercar, but gets distracted (Quite rightly) by the old car.
I’m going to assume it’s a typo, either that or the horse needs oiling….

Catching up after not being around yesterday. Had an unexpected outing to the doctors after an A-Fib episode Wednesday night that was very different to any I’ve had before, and it also meant that I’d had three in six weeks, which shouldn’t happen with the medication I’m on. Had an ECG, and scheduled a raft of bloods, and an EKG, after which it’s a referral back to the Cardiologist. It’s been a fun* time.
“I Heard It Through The Grapevine” and “Karma Chameleon”.. two songs that are nothing alike, but I could listen to them both all day.
Years apart, they both repeated over and over on the radio, everywhere you went… something that usually drives me crazy.
But I never got tired of either one… in spite of the fact that my friends totally mocked me for liking Boy George. “Teenybopper music”. But I did and I still do. So there!
just in case…
“in short order, the Lone Basset and Alpo have brought Cat Cavendish to justice”…
Hey…. I think I missed something…..
(I do love this strip though… I’m just being greedy.)
back in those days the gocomics’ 1 meg limit on animations severely crimped our output…until we learned some tricks to extend them somewhat.
so what I’m tryin to say is the exciting ‘capture of the Cavendish gang’ scene wound up on the cutting room floor.
😥
.
Soon.

Ah! Lunch…
And isn’t that nice… that sweet, happy turtle invited that big dragonfly to lunch.
,
It might smell better now…or at least different.

Wow, that does look like a crime was committed!

Wait, I think I know these guys…!
Something tells me they’re about to walk across the street.
Oh… And that third guy…. I know you can’t see his feet… but I’m pretty sure he’s barefoot.
I dunno… I just… pick that up… somehow.

Given that I haven’t been in a 7-11 in years, I sure hope those shirts on the clerks have changed!

But what am I supposed to be noticing?
I was hoping you guys would find that; I sure didn’t
My guess is that the main thing is the presence of cash.
Well, one thing I noticed is that the cash register is one of those old-time-things where the numbers flipped, instead of the digital we have today…
No lazer scanners.
“Eat here, get gas?”
No lottery sales.
It’s clean?
😅
Slurpee machine is not self serve. It’s behind the counter.

Mmmm, mmmmm. Look at those gold bars!

Maybe not Annie Oakley. But I’ve seen other people do almost as bad.

None of them look happy.

or not
All present and accounted for, actually.

Once again I have no idea what’s going on in a gif… except, obviously, cars are going by.
I highly suspect that there’s more of a plot to it
Looks like a typical car meet, with fancy cars going by. The camera person is filming the supercar, but gets distracted (Quite rightly) by the old car.
that’s what I got– maybe not even a car meet; maybe just a busy street in a flashy town, like Las Vegas
Yep!
That Tudor caught my eye (naturally…)
In “The Lone Basset” titles, ‘A cloud of rust’?
I’m going to assume it’s a typo, either that or the horse needs oiling….

*For a given value of ‘Fun’…
Sure hope you’re ok!
And yeah …. I’ve definitely noticed that not all fun is rated equally.
Take care!!!
nope , that was intentional—just throwing in some puns and stuff for the fun of it
Horse needs a repaint, or oiling, then!
Be careful out there!
Sounds familiar.
Fixed (for now) with me now being on diuretics as well as the other meds.
BTDT! Those are scary!
‘Shelter from Wind’ (2020) – Atanas Matsoureff (Bulgarian Artist, born 1975) – Watercolour, 76 × 57 cm (30 x 22.5 in).
Wow… it looks photographic, unlike most watercolor.
We’ve seen “Under the Roof” before.
Impressive!
As it’s Good Friday on the Easter weekend here in the UK, and I missed yesterday, have a pair of sleeping otters.
Cuddly … when they aren’t into mischief. 🙂
.
Uh oh.
That’s otterly adorable!

I completely concur.
well, then look for “heard it through the grapevine’ tomorrow
