After many years of no rail service, we recently got light passenger trains in this area.
I haven’t ridden them yet, because the stations aren’t very convenient for me, but I plan to check them out.I
….
However in their short existence, there have been I think three fatalities at a street crossing about two miles from my house, near a freeway underpass.
Not train passengers..
One bicyclist and two homeless pedestrians, all of whom ignored warning lights, one of whom went around the barrier arm when it was already lowered…
And all three of whom had blood alcohol way over the limit for driving.
Subway stations here in Munich…
Fortunately there’s a so-called “Nothalt” emergency pull-handle – and a safe-space under the whole length of the platforms.
Those are much more urban, I’m sure, and probably have many more trains and passengers using them.
We have only one train, that makes a few trips a day, and two of the three “stations” are just a stretch of concrete with a bus-stop type wood and glass shelter.
The fourth incorporates a small old train station, and I think it’s the only one that’s manned.
….
The fatal collisions weren’t even at a stop, but a place where the tracks cross a rather busy suburban street at fairly high speed.
They’ve since built these sort of cages that are designed to impede crossing, on three corners… The fourth has an arm that lowers, instead… The arm that one person walked around.
This picture is in daytime… At night, when all three accidents occurred, it’s much more deserted.
Sadly, you can’t idiot-proof them because idiots are so darned clever.
But, perhaps a block long fence along the tracks on each side of the crossing. Mount the gates on the fence post. Then going around the gate will involve either a hike along the fence or going into the middle of the road. They would also have to have these to prevent ducking under:

I had never heard of mushroom ketchup. As best I can make it out, the label says “for pies, puddings and ???” So it is a dessert thing?
No, not a dessert thing. Pies and puddings in this context means things like steak pies, and (steak) suet puddings. I use it as a marinade and when cooking mostly to add flavour, but I also use it as a sauce.
I’m sure there is a warehouse full of these jokes somewhere.
A horse walks into a bar. The bartender walks over to the horse and asks “Hey Buddy. Why the long face?”
It’s been a year since I said good-bye to my Moxie. I’ve been looking at local SPCAs and animal control, but haven’t found exactly the right one. I applied to a local Golden Retriever rescue today. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Woof. Bicycle guy looks hammered. He’s lucky to be in one piece.
…if he had be hit by the train…
…the poor train driver would have had my full compassion.
I hope the life-saver got a decent reward – but I doubt it…
The guy probably sued him for injuries incurred while saving his life. You know ~ the world today.
Yeah train tracks are a bad mixer with alcohol.

Don’t drink and drive, they say.
Well, don’t drink and walk near trains, either.

eeeek!

Peek-a-boo.
You know, field mice are kinda cute, as long as they stay outside.
(Another good reason to have a cat.)
An ARTICLE about the plight of the harvest mouse.
,
Same cat as yesterday’s pole-sitter?
Does this make him a polecat?
Boo! 😀
If it were, I’d know it was photoshopped… somebody creating a series of unlikely kitty poses.
But no, a different cat, and a much more realistic looking placement.
Yesterday’s pole sitter was less sleek and well fed, ie, thinner and rougher looking, with an expanse of white chest.
This one looks scared. Like “why did you put on this railing?”

Very much <3 .

I like that one better than Warhol’s Coke stuff
Woof again. Talk about your mashups.
Mona apparently doesn’t have a front facing camera so she could see the picture she’s taking.
Imagine, a big celebrity using such out of date technology.
Time to update her 16th century phone.
Dual screen phone.
Made me laugh!! ….and that’s why I’m here.
When yoga goes very wrong.
That’s how pantomimes end up.
Yes the mime trapped in the (almost) invisible phone.
Makes me feel claustrophobic.
I’m a frayed knot.
I take it you know the interminable “shaggy dog” story?
(No actual dog involved).
This is the version I buy and use.

I never heard of it either. Doesn’t sound like something I want for my pies, puddings and ???s.
You can use it as a marinade, or to add flavour when cooking as well, but is also very good on meals like steak etc. like in the video.

One of my favorite lame jokes is similar…
But I’m not sure whether it works in print cos you can’t tell it with the right inflection. But of course I have to try:
This termite walks into a bar, looks around, and says “Hey! Where’s the bar tender?”
Diamond Lil would approve.
I’m sure there is a warehouse full of these jokes somewhere.
A horse walks into a bar. The bartender walks over to the horse and asks “Hey Buddy. Why the long face?”
I heard it as “Is the Bar tender here?”
oatmeal -raisin cookies
MMM favorite cookie. he lets the cookie jar off to harden the cookies, the he’s delighted.
love the videos today. especially perry como’s.!
As soon as you mention ‘dung beetle’, Cleo, we know it is going to be a toilet joke! Claude was not impressed!

Good luck finding your special friend.
