There are a whole bunch more photographs there too (you could get a camel ride in 1908).
Thanks for the memories, Stel. Hair kind of epitomized the generation gap in the 60s. I had a Hair poster on my bedroom wall, if you looked at it right it had some nudity. My father ripped it down.

I love that “mod” art portrait of Cleo. Was that from her days as a hippie “chick?”
No offence to you profession, Susan, but I have not darkened the door of a barber shop since the day I left home for college. I still grow it “down to where it stops by itself,” but that is not as long as it used to be, and there is much less of it.
No offense taken…. “some of my closest friends” , as people say, are or have been, the same way, male and female.
I can’t hold it against anyone that they want to skip haircuts, cut their own hair (usually not a great idea) or even have a different stylist, usually because of schedules or distance, or somewhere they’ve been going since before I was licensed.
I had plenty of clients.
…
I myself trim my own top and layers, and rarely go anywhere to have the bottom cut, because I like the way it curls if it’s untrimmed.
And it’s a myth, possibly perpetrated by some haircutters, that hair grows longer if you cut it.
Hair is dead and has no nerves. The scalp has no idea what happens to the ends.
…
That said… Hair cells dry out, split and break.
Conditioners and such help hair “grow longer” by replacing the missing moisture and oils that help retard breakage.
Slight trims also make hair appear longer, because a solid edge looks longer, and a less wispy tip is less likely to split.
As long as your stylist understands that slight means slight.
just a side note about my ‘parkinsons plus’ diagnosis. they have accepted me into the ‘palliative care’ program of home care. yay! they will come to me for all health care. hooray.
“ Four Dancers Waiting To Enter The Stage Ballet Dance (I could not find the French title)” By: Edgar Degas 1903
HaHa!
I did that just yesterday.
Shouldn’t you be lying low with your ill-gotten gains?
Instead of publicly confessing, I mean.
Are we supposed to hide you?
I have my hiding place all picked out.
Someone has a sense of humour, but the artwork itself is:
“Maria Luisa de Parma ” By: Francisco de Goya 1789 (some site’s add the, I think, descriptor ” con tontillo”)
and look at those tiny feet!
It’s a little easier to have tiny feet in a painting than in real life…. 😉
Cheeky!
He’s ready to join you for dinner.

It looks like it was taken to be on one of the funny postcards of the day, but it’s the wrong shape.
Maybe it’s what they used to call a cabinet card… photos that were glued to a backing.
Usually portraits and family photos, some types were sold as novelties.
This one is a bit late for that, but still may have been sold as a risque souvenir due to the skimpy bathing attire.
(Bobbed hair and bare legs were daring when shoes like that were still worn on the beach.)
Gentlemen often had small packets of such cards hidden away in a drawer… the early version of the stack of Playboys under the bed.
BTW those suits were often tightly knit wool, and boy, were they itchy.
Oops… Just saw Alexi’s post… So this is three or four years later than I thought.
Notions of propriety were changing very fast during WWI… though in some circles even those movies were considered scandalous in 1918.
Probably not a cabinet card; still a slightly risque souvenir.

You wand dog hair? I got your dog hair!
It has taken over the house.
All over!
Moxie’s been gone almost a year and I still find occasional clumps of her hair in the garage.

I love that, too!
Oh! A revival of Dog Hair!
I’ve got to go!
Just thinking about it, I can’t stop howling those great songs…
in spite of the remarks I get.
…
Can I help it if I can’t carry a howl?
Cone on….howl along with me…. howl as though no one is listening…
unless, you know, someone is, and it bothers him/her…
in which case… howl in the bathroom, or wherever you can howl alone…
….
‘Fur! (Fur! Fur! Fur! Fur! Fur! Fur!)
Grow it, show it
Long as I can grow it
My fur….
I let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my fur.
A home for fleas…
A hive for the buzzin’ bees (buzzin’ beeeeeeeesssss)
A nest for birds…
There ain’t no words,
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of my…
FUR!”
…
Humans, especially male humans, fought to grow their hair long, in the 60’s and 70’s…
Hard to believe that was 50plus years ago.
Since then, they’ve grown complacent…. most have gone back to shorter hair…
But it’s usually no longer an issue, or a political statement, simply fashion, or practicality.
(Fashionable or not, though, I still like it long, on most guys, though it just doesn’t suit some.)
….
To this day, though, not many basset hounds dare to grow their fur long….
But a few brave ones do.
…
Boomer is a pure-blooded basset, but disqualified from shows because he chose to grow his hair!
Free Boomer!
Peace, brother basset….

Chicken Cordon Bleu
That’s not cordon bleu.
that’s dinner for tonight.
Extra four is by Dean Russo.
He has done several versions of it.
the only time i come close to the beetles’ music, is on one of your posters, stel.
love your creative song titles.
THis was one of the few musicals we actually went and saw ‘live’. It was a great experience.
just a side note about my ‘parkinsons plus’ diagnosis. they have accepted me into the ‘palliative care’ program of home care. yay! they will come to me for all health care. hooray.
Glad to hear that. It gets harder and harder to get out and about.
just climbing up into our SUV is a huge deal!
I’m so glad, too, for your husband…
You may call him your mountain man, but that didn’t stop me from worrying about him having to drive you long distances in the mountains!
I’m happy for the convenience, and relieved that you’ll both be safer.
i feel like you all are our family! he appreciates all the mental help he can get.
