That cannot be a real “full-size” baby elephant. Some sort of pygmy version?

I was thinking the same thing… since newborn elephants usually weigh well over 200 pounds.

I’ve seen it before, too….but as a photo, not a gif.

The elephant looks perfectly real, but maybe a pygmy elephant?

Even pygmy elephants, though, are 9 or 10 feet tall as adults.

Maybe this little guy is just a runt?

….

I’m sure someone added the animation… Nice job.

Last night I did an image search….

A couple of people on Pinterest identified it as Jackie Cooper.

Could be… but it doesn’t look quite like his face to me.

Other than that, there was no additional information.

That bit on the left, wasn’t that taken from a Charlie Chaplin movie?

Well, that IS Jackie Cooper, so maybe it’s a still from that?

I was just about to look for that picture, so thanks!

I believe Cleo Clifford played the Jackie Cooper role in the early remake!

Catching up to yesterday:

As I said to Tigressy, the squares only started showing up last week, and they’ve never been black; at least thus far. With GoComics though?
I really liked that Pregnant Guppy video. I love planes. Thanks, for that.

I haven’t run into any problems with YouTube at all (now I’ve probably jinxed myself).
The only video I can find of the Pregnant Guppy in flight is the first few seconds of the video below.
But the nose-on shot taken while it’s taxiing will blow your mind.

That commercials-interrupting-video thing is getting more and more common.
It could very well be that your paid subscription is stopping the white square thing. It does have the look of a partially blocked ad, but I’ve never seen an ad jump around on the page as the square does.

I’m also a paid subscriber, and have no problems with ads or with white or black boxes in GoComics.

A lot of people say they don’t want to pay, when ad-blockers are free… but the whole page set-up is different, and to me, it’s worth the money.

A whole year costs a fraction of what a lot of people pay for one month of cable TV, and I spend a lot of time there… though not as much as I used to, it’s true.

I can’t afford cable or a zillion streaming services… I don’t have Amazon Prime.

For GoComics, I’m still grandfathered in at an old rate… i think $15 a year instead of 20. It renews this month… I guess I’ll keep it.

Working through with today’s exchange rate (all the chartered banks in Canada use the same rate), fees and taxes I’d be paying around $26.00 a year Canadian for the subscription; not much, but I’d have to put my credit card out on the internet and that’s something I’m loath to do.

I contacted them for a way to pay by check and they said there is no option for that. So I’m with you, Alex, minimize credit card exposure.

I don’t blame you for being cautious. As a former security officer for a savings bank, here’s what I do. I have one cc dedicated to online buying. If I use it, it’s online. And if it’s done online, I use this card. I request a fairly low limit on it, something like $5K. Thus, my online exposure is always on this card, and it has a low limit. So even if it is stolen, the thieves will exhaust it fairly quickly and I have a good argument why I cannot be held responsible for more than that. IF THAT.

That is a beautiful poster, and I think I would have to go see the movie.
The human version did nothing for me, though. I was amazed to learn that Rex Harrison had won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance. Maybe it worked better on a stage.

Oooh… My Fair Basset!

My parents loved Broadway show tunes.

Long before the movie version, we had the recording of the Broadwag show…

Rex Harrisdog was in both… he can’t howl all that well, it’s true…. but they wrote some intricate barking songs just for him that are quite memorable.

And I listened over and over to Julie Houndrews as Eliza Doglittle.

Like a lot of people, I wasn’t thrilled when Audrey Hepdog was chosen over her, to play Eliza in the film…. though I did warm up to her over the years because I like her so much as a dog and a canine actress.

Hepdog isn’t a great howler either… but most of her songs were dubbed by Marnie Vixen…. whose voice was also used in several other famous musicals.

Marnie couldn’t play Eliza cos she’s not an actress, and certainly not a big name, which was the reason Hepdog was cast instead of Houndrews in the first place.

Especially since she’s a fox, not a basset…. but her voice is better for all those high notes.

Strangely, there are parallels in the human productions… but the human actress, somebody named Audrey Hepburn, was misled.

She was told she would be singing her own songs… she learned them, rehearsed them… and didn’t know till post-production that her own voice wouldn’t be used in the final cut.

That way, they had film of her singing her numbers earnestly, which they thought would look better than knowingly lip-synching.

I’ve read that she was quite angry at the deception! But being very professional, she carried on.

Had that been in the canine version, there would have been teeth and probably blood.

Stel has posted a clip of the human “Wouldn’t it be Loverly?”…in which Eliza’s song has been dubbed by Marni Nixon.

It’s beautifully sung… but a lot of people think Ms. Hepburn’s own voice has an authentic charm, as well.

Film researchers have found recordings of her original singing, and dubbed them back into some of the scenes…

In case you’d like to hear what this song would have sounded like… here’s a clip:

And just for good measure… here’s the Broadway version we all heard first, with Julie Andrews.

I’m so happy that I bought a professional pizza oven at the beginning of the pandemic (first lock-down) – the prize has doubled in the meantime.
It wasn’t cheap, but well worth it since I use it for other purposes, too (flat dishes like gratin, chicken legs etc.) – and the baking trays etc. from our oven fit in there like a glove!

EUR 347,15 – the price had doubled in the meantime, it’s not that much anymore now, but still more than back then:
