It is, for this dog, at this moment in time. That’s the reason for my proposed title.

Whoa… reminds me of buying my car.

I had a really good mechanic, who, when I needed a “new” used station wagon, in 2009, advised me to find a Saturn, and said he’d check it out.

I started going through ads, and one sounded especially good.

“1998 wagon. Hardly driven, stored indoors” were two points I remember.

Like an idiot, I went alone, in a borrowed car, cos mine was defunct. Never again!

….

The place turned out to be a very small farm.

First I got scared because the old guy who met me at the gate said I looked like a movie star (believe me, I didn’t). Them he led me to a small barn.

He opened the door into total darkness, but the big shaft of light from outside partially fell on a car in almost this condition, a bit less rusty, but with a blanket of weeds growing over it, even though it was indoors.

He said not to worry about how it looked cos it ran perfectly.
But he didn’t have the key to start it up.

He wanted $5,000!!! Wouldn’t agree to my mechanic checking it. Stood way too close.

I said I was leaving, in what I hoped was a friendly tone, and to let me know when it was smogged, cos he’d have to have a smog certificate before he could sell it (California law).(And I was pretty sure he couldn’t get one).

He got angry, and insisted I should give him the $5 000 right then, and have a locksmith come make a key.

I practically ran to my car, and got away as fast as I could.

I only went looking with other people after that…
And I bought my 98 Saturn wagon in great condition for $3,000 from a dealer.

I used to read that magazine!

I think I was in grade school, maybe junior high.
I’d forgotten all about it.

Title?
Could it be something like Crazy old Man Battles Demons at Night {outdoors and blindfolded}?

Looks like the guy who delivered the infamous “Black Spot” in Treasure Island.

Yup, that’s the guy!

Maybe you read the edition with the Wyeth illustrations, and they stayed in your subconscious…

Like the way I’ll always remember Robin Hood in Howard Pyle illustrations.

It’s called “Blind Pew” … from 1911

Pew being a blind pirate in Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island”, for which this is an illustration.

That’s his hat on the ground.

I believe what’s on his head is not a blindfold, but the soft felt cap worn under such a hat. He can’t tell it partially covers his eyes because he can’t see.

What I can’t figure out is the black thing, and what it is that looks like a third foot.

….

From a website called NarrativePainting.net:

“This scene was painted … specifically for the chapter titled ‘The Last of the Blind Man.’ In the scene from the book, a shot rang out, scaring off the pirates. Louis writes “…the buccaneers turned at once and ran, separating in every direction, one seaward along the cove, one slant across the hill, and so on, so that in half a minute not a sign of them remained but Pew. Him they had deserted, whether in sheer panic or out of revenge for his ill words and blows I know not; but there he remained behind, tapping up and down the road in a frenzy, and groping and calling for his comrades.”

Loved them so much I named one of my kittens Oliver. My kids didn’t want the other one named Stan. He became Tyler.

They used to live on a crowded chicken farm… but they staged a coup!

I mean a coupe…. er… a coop.

You just need the URL, not the HTML.

But it changes the page, so right click and open on a new one.

Blame it on WordPress. It looked fine when I posted it.

Edited now. Looked fine again.

After refresh, yours looks the same as mine – all wrong…

So it does… Yikes!

Now I want to play with it…. not that I know enough to actually fix it.

It’ll play as an mp3, but WordPress still keeps adding back the source code.

And, for me, after I had downloaded the file, and had double-clicked on it, it did not open automatically in Safari, but rather it started up Chrome automatically and played there…
Thanks, Tigressy, loved the refresh on my memory banks! Yes, he IS everywhere…

Let’s see…

Room 3 holds the key to the solution:
If true, then the sign on the door of room 1 is true – and so is the one for room 2.
Can’t be, therefore there’s no tiger in room 1. Must be the true lady.

My brother’s in Maine, hoping they don’t get another power outage. I came out of the store in SoCal, and this came to me:

I see the rain a comin’
Comin’ round the bend
And I ain’t had no power since, I don’t know when
And my groceries are dyin’
I’ll have to throw them out
My power company’s sucking
We ought to throw them out

Then I thought of Susan Sunshine in NoCal, and it’s kind of similar:

I see the smoke a comin’
Comin’ round the bend
And I ain’t had no power since, I don’t know when
And my groceries are dyin’
I’ll have to throw them out
My power company’s sucking
We ought to throw them out

I try to get on Cleo
But I don’t get no bars
My internet is dead now
And my phone just ain’t no use
I’m gettin’ so frustrated
Because I can not post
All my peeps are sittin’ out there
And my solutions are toast

You’re a poet.
And you didn’t know it.
But your feet show it.
They’re Longfellow’s.

I love deep dish, but I have to make it with a zucchini latticework instead of dough to keep the carbs down. Turns out it’s still just as tasty, and the crunch adds an interesting note.
