Mmm hmm…. Let’s have a little comprehension and reality test, okay?.
1) Feeding your dog a certain brand of canned dog food will surely make him friendly… true or false?
2) Friskies contains steaks and roasts, right? Okay, they’re horsemeat steaks and roasts… But they’re in there, right?
3) A three pound bag of kibble turns into 10 pounds of food with water added, right?
Answers:
1) I don’t even think that requires an answer. Maybe some serious tranquilizers would make your dog temporarily less aggressive, but not friendly… but that’s not recommended, and there’s nothing like that in Friskies (I hope!)
2) Critical label reading is important: the ad promises all the foodvalue of steaks and roasts…. but it probably comes from other parts. It could even come from corn and chicken feet, depending on who’s measuring “food value”.
3) No, it turns into 10 pounds of mush that’s 30% food and 70% water.

One of my very favorites. When you’re a teenager coming in from practice, it’s a strong temptation to eat about half of that before dinner. “What??? I have to share???” 🙂
I’m no comics nerd, but I know Superman debuted in Action Comics #1, in the late 30s… it was 10¢, and I remember reading not that long ago that one sold for 6 million dollars!
He soon got his own comic, but it was 10¢ too. Besides the cartoonists were Siegel and Schuster.
It would look cool sitting on those transparent skeleton flowers… except they’re only transparent in the rain, and maybe this guy doesn’t like getting wet.
Also, Uncle Google says this is a glasswing butterfly, which lives mostly in the tropical rainforest of South America, with a few in Mexico and Texas.
Skeleton flowers live in the cool highlands of Asia.
They’ve probably never met, and if they got together they’d fight about turning up the thermostat.
I found this one quite easily. I find that with a lot of these you either spot it within a few seconds, or it takes you ages. Sometimes you still don’t spot them without the solution.
August 1939 – Pilot Jacqueline Cochran with a Northrop “Gamma” racing plane, captured by Toni Frissell for Vogue. A pioneering aviator, she excelled in 1930s air racing, led WWII women pilots, set post-war jet records, and earned top military honours.
In 1952, Cochran, at age 47, decided to challenge the world speed record for women, then held by Jacqueline Auriol. She tried to borrow an F-86 from the U.S. Air Force, but was refused. She was introduced to an Air Vice-Marshal of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) who, with the permission of the Canadian Minister of Defence, arranged for her to borrow 19200, the sole Canadair Sabre 3. Canadair sent a 16-man support team to California for the attempt. On 18 May 1953, Cochran set a new 100 km speed record of 1,050.15 km/h (652.5 mph). Later on 3 June, she set a new 15 km closed circuit record of 1078 km/h (670 mph). Encouraged by then-Major Chuck Yeager, with whom Cochran shared a lifelong friendship, on May 18, 1953, at Rogers Dry Lake, California, Cochran flew the Sabre 3 at an average speed of 652.337 mph. During the course of this run the Sabre went supersonic, and Cochran became the first woman to break the sound barrier. Sabre 3 (19200) is on display at the Reynolds-Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada.
The joke in today’s strip is telegraphed from panel one, and it’s gotta be 100 years old … But it still makes me laugh every time.
I remember a friend, a potter at the Renaissance Faire, telling me people were always asking her how to fix broken mugs and bowls.
She would tell them there is no glue anywhere she would trust to put a handle back on a mug.
And if any part broke other than the handle, no glue she would trust to put on anything to eat or drink from.
Unless you want to use it for pencils or a plant, just toss it and buy a new one.
She laughed cos that was the point… nobody got that it’s kinda rude to ask a pottery seller how to fix an old mug instead of buying one of hers … But she was telling them the truth.
Yesterday I came back kinda late, and there were a couple of comments or questions about my using this guy: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I answered there, but since not everybody goes back, I’m redoing my reply here.
First… I don’t type it.
The central character is in an Asian font, which I don’t have.
Also sites like WordPress will turn text into regular emojis, so you probably can’t type it directly unless you use the box for typing code.
But most virtual keyboards have a key to access emoticons/emoji, and when you click (or touch) it, you’ll see tabs for different categories, like food and weather.
Either one of those tabs will be for text emojis, or they’ll be in a row of separate categories, like gifs and stickers. The symbol to click will be a text “smiley” like this :-)
If you do, you’ll find tons of “shruggies”….

It sounds complicated but it’s really very simple when you try it.
I’ve personally only done it on Windows and Android, so if it’s very different in iOS or Linux somebody else may have to say.
Comments are working, just click on the comic name and they come up, it will take some time getting use too, I had to set up a second favorite page as all of mine were not coming through, it’s not handling as much on a page as they said it would

Okay okay… I’ll look it up.
Ok, it’s from 1987…
And you can pick up a copy for about 5 bucks.
“The Adventures of Superman” was a new title for the series (instead of just “Superman” I guess)… but it’s known as Superman #424.

That is a picture of a frog.
But probably not Michigan J Frog.

Knowingly…
I can find nothing about the character Capt. Buck Minster

What do the orange areas among the rainforest signify?

Is she waiting till dark?
Yeah, and I’ve seen it, and I recognize this, but I can’t remember why she’s holding a match, cos IIRC she’s blind.

Looks more like a cat than a rabbit.
That’s what I was going to say…. though i was going to put it in a spoiler box,

It’s kind of hard to see the bunny ears, and the face is kind of universal “cute animal” till you do.
I finally got it this morning, and i thought it looked more like a cat at first.
It’s pretty bad when I can’t spot a bunny.
Just bought a sleeve of the new Forever stamps. 73 cents each. Betty White is featured.

The middle part ツ is the “tsu” from “tsundere” ツンデレ
So it’s Japanese? Kana?
But you still have to copy and paste it, right?
I copied the shrugging figure into google translate which identified the middle part as Japanese.
Taking only that, it completed it – et voil`a!
