This was a great series of basset stars, now brought together. And Nighthawks as the Wiz is hilarious. We all know he couldn’t wiz his way out of a paper bag!
Here’s a fuller version of StelBel’s gif. of the Munchkins’ welcome.
The Lullaby League and the Lollipop Guild.
As children our aunt would send my sister and myself the Oz books for birthdays, and sometimes Christmas.
I still have my copy of “The Patchwork Girl of Oz” and my sister’s copy of “Glinda of Oz.” I suspect the
vile,
VILE,
VILE ! ! !
“book sanitizers” would demand CHANGES-FOR-THE-COMMON-GOOD if they even allowed them to be published today.
Too, like Conan Doyle, Baum made mistakes with his characters. The Glinda of Billie Burke is the Glinda of “Glinda of Oz,” while the “little old woman” was the original, nameless, Witch of the North in “The Wizard of Oz.” (she also ” took off her cap and balanced the point on the end of her nose”)
And of course the movie made ruby slippers out of the original silver shoes.
Apologies. I meant no harm. Beautiful posters as always.
On an unrelated subject: There is a company called TOTO who make urinals; my local library branch has them installed; the name, “TOTO” is right at eye level.
If any male who knows “Africa” exists isn’t thinking of it……well, you get the picture, I’m sure.
The Culver hotel, where the Munchkins stayed during the production of Wizard of Oz, is near my son’s home in LA, so we stayed there on our last (pre-Covid) visit. I am pleased to say the beds were full size. There are plenty of stories about the behavior of these folks at the time, but there are also denials that place the blame on a few troublemakers.
Well, you know how it is in Hollywood, whatever makes the best story, sticks.

Oh My Dog! Awesome overload… so many awesome posters, so little brain power to take them all in, so much better than the originals. I feel like a basset in a butcher shop. This one…no this one…or maybe that one. A Stel-lar result. Well done.
Y’all take care. I’ll be over there with the posters. (((((HUGS)))))
Thanks, Plods! I had always wanted to show them all in one posting. I know it’s kind of small, but at least on my computer, they enlarge with no loss of resolution. I hoped that that would be the same experience for anyone else who wanted to see them larger.

Really love this one, Stel! Love Nighthawks as the wizard. The top one is my very favorite, though. An amazing movie that has certainly withstood the sands of time….. even in dog years.
What a trip down Memory Lane. First, we have Stel’s magic of Oz, ending with the awesome portrait of The Wizard. Then all the great videos!
thanks for a great day!
P.S. to @nighthawks (from a day or so back). I saw Mythmakers: The Art of Winslow Homer and Frederic Remington at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth in January. Its a traveling exhibit – catch it if you can.
And I’ll be here as soon as I can gather MYSELF together…
Once again… threat or promise…
You decide. 🤔

That might depend a bit on the amount of beer he’s had before he got into the bag. 😎 😎 😎 (this post was placed by an onimous owned by Innes C. Ognito)
Thanks, Dennis!

Alexi, I changed my picture. There’s no sense in having both posted.

No worries, Alexi. And, thanks for your comment re: “beautiful posters”.
When I got my Kindle, I found all the Oz books free for download. Most came from Amazon, but I got one through the Gutenberg project.
I like the Pink Floyd version!

Surely the Lollipop Guild was responsible for any trouble.
Especially if they are blue lollipops. Everyone will have blue tongues.
From all reports, they certainly were a wild bunch!
A vewy, vewy bad basset.

…
Kinda partial to this one
Another great scene! Loved that movie!
I think I can name each of the movies. Good dancing!
The Oz team pops up near the end! Now I see the connection! Fun video.

I’m doing all the alcohol screening I can. So much work, so little time.
We appreciate your sacrifice!

Ah….we share the same favorite one! And, that was the first one that I did. I still watch it every year.

thanks for a great day!
It was totally my pleasure to put it together! It’s too bad that NH’s avatar wasn’t available back in 1939!

I love Remington’s sculptures and Russel’s paintings.
Both of these are called “Mountain Man”. That’s where I got MMM’s name from.
Here is the Remington:
Here is the Russel”
I would—but not in Texas.
A bit far for me just for that exhibit…now if that were a Hopper exhibit—yes, I believe
I would go.
Good afternoon Balladeers, (((((Plods))))) and Miss Susan.
Love it, Stel!
Thanks, Dry!!
here is (artist unknown)
Unicorns and Rainbows. Love Unknown’s technique.
It deserves a spot on the refrigerator.
Love it!
A kid who knows the colors of the rainbow in order!
Or… maybe… a grown-up who draws like a kid.
