It’s not just the ladies who look like that. I once stopped for a guy who was trying to check his oil with the engine running because his car started running badly.
He used to let the service station guys put oil in the car …(back in the days before self serve, when they would check all the fluids and say “Looks like you’re a quart down, sir.”)
I pointed out that buying oil at Grand Auto or the hardware store was a third of the price… So he bought a quart and learned to check it. Mind you, I didn’t drive yet.
Came the day it was a quart down… So he got out the oil, and in those days, a church key, cos it came in a can (lordy, I’m old)…. and said to me “okay Smarty Pants… where do I put it?”
It’s nice to see that people back then were actually having fun.. and a couple who seemed to enjoy each other.

Most Victorian portraits look so somber… but a lot of it is due to the long exposures.
But the 1890s were when film was getting faster. If this was 1897, maybe a few seconds, indoors, occasionally a minute if the light wasn’t good, but less outside.
10 years later, the popular box camera and 1/25 second exposures would let candid shots like this be more common.
I spot a couple of ringers!
“We await your orders, colonel.”

My ex-husband was absolutely not a car guy.

For some reason, luckily, I actually knew! Whew!
Because one just is not enough.
“I’ll gladly pay you Thursday for a couple of cheese biscuits today…”
Uh, ma’am. You have a customer. Not a paying customer, but a customer all the same.
There’s nothing like cuddles to make your day brighter.
Hey, nobody drove off with them!
He’s either walking on water, or walking on sky. Is this Fred Astaire?

Someone is driving that forklift. They could make part of a circus act out of that.
And very well-dressed, too.
No wonder it’s called “the vegetator.”
