For one thing, that signature looks nothing like “Eli Fabien”…
For another, the pages of “his” work that I found are crowded with images in several different styles, a number of which bear the same signature… but many others are unsigned.
The sign on the Coke machine looks like it was intended to say “Refresh Yourself”… which I have seen on old Coke displays, as their slogan was once “The Pause that Refreshes.”
But why would it be garbled, if “Coca Cola” is clear?
And the bottle isn’t shaped like a Coke bottle of the period.

Then when I googled “Eli Fabien”, I only found a French (music) composer named Fabien Ely.
I give up.

“The little pueblo of Los Angeles”, eh? Either our narrator is being sardonic, or this was a LOOONNNGG time ago.
I don’t know how much later this tale is set, but according to Google and Wikipedia, “El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles” was founded in 1781, originally occupied by just 44 Spanish settlers, including children.
I knew what you meant, Susan: “yesterday” in the context of the “Perro” strip — the storyline……not the real-life “yesterday”.
We should think of Tuesdays and Thursdays as commercials for movies being shown in the area! Then, the rest of the days are our regularly scheduled programs.
So…..back to “Perro”….our regularly scheduled program, but stay tuned for yet another commercial coming up in a few hours!!!

Yeah yeah, I know… but maybe goofier than usual, if it’s possible to tell.
We’ve had a three-day heat wave.
Not the worst we’ve had; today was the hottest at supposedly 99°.. but steady, not dissipating early in the evening like they usually do.
Tomorrow’s 84° is sounding quite refreshing.

Then when I got online, I opened a few pages and my internet quit… but it was doing something strange…
It said I was connected, but with “No internet”.
I could disconnect and reconnect… but not get to or refresh any web pages, until it finally changed its mind.
I, for one, am gratified to learn that there is a Massachusetts Day. Slightly disappointed that neither Belchertown nor my little town are shown on that map.
What’s your little town (if you’ll pardon me for being nosy–don’t feel obligated to answer)?? Just curious. Mine (Easthampton) is shown, surprisingly. That’s usually one that’s left out!

If i recall my “Two Years Before the Mast” correctly, Dana took a mule trip of several days to reach the pueblo high up in the hills.
The museum and original site is near downtown L.A.
But I don’t know what the terrain looked like to sailors back them.

“Two Years Before the Mast” will remain forever in my memory as the very first book I ever allowed myself to return to the library unfinished.
I was eight or nine years old, and enchanted with sea stories, like the Admiral Hornblower books.
I’d seen mention of Dana in another book, that made it sound fascinating, and decided I MUST read it.
But slogging through endless lists of cargo off and cargo laded was just too much for a fourth grader.
I had to tell my teacher I gave up, and then i felt guilty for years.

Whether or not he is tipping his hand… or his paw… the desire for action is obviously rising in his canine breast.

Your computer was connected to your router (wire or -less) maybe?
I use Wi-Fi, not a wired connection, because there’s no Ethernet port on my laptop.
(I was surprised by that…. but I’m told that’s the way it’s going these days. No Ethernet, no optical drive…everything by Wi-Fi.)
According to the Wi-Fi stats, I was connected to my ISP, not just the modem/router, and it diligently measured the zero throughput.

The router connection is shown in a different place in that window, at a constant rate, as long as it’s working…
kind of a less featured spot, as generally you’re there to choose or verify your network or maybe check for data flow.
