A strange image search… both the filename for this image and a website called ArtStation, plus a couple of Pinterest “Collections”, credit the painting (and many others) to one Eli Fabien…
but it’s rather fishy.
…
For one thing, that signature looks nothing like “Eli Fabien”…
For another, the pages of “his” work that I found are crowded with images in several different styles, a number of which bear the same signature… but many others are unsigned.
The sign on the Coke machine looks like it was intended to say “Refresh Yourself”… which I have seen on old Coke displays, as their slogan was once “The Pause that Refreshes.”
But why would it be garbled, if “Coca Cola” is clear?
And the bottle isn’t shaped like a Coke bottle of the period.
….
Then when I googled “Eli Fabien”, I only found a French (music) composer named Fabien Ely.
I give up.

“The little pueblo of Los Angeles”, eh? Either our narrator is being sardonic, or this was a LOOONNNGG time ago.
I don’t know how much later this tale is set, but according to Google and Wikipedia, “El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles” was founded in 1781, originally occupied by just 44 Spanish settlers, including children.
I knew what you meant, Susan: “yesterday” in the context of the “Perro” strip — the storyline……not the real-life “yesterday”.
We should think of Tuesdays and Thursdays as commercials for movies being shown in the area! Then, the rest of the days are our regularly scheduled programs.
So…..back to “Perro”….our regularly scheduled program, but stay tuned for yet another commercial coming up in a few hours!!!
I, for one, am gratified to learn that there is a Massachusetts Day. Slightly disappointed that neither Belchertown nor my little town are shown on that map.
What’s your little town (if you’ll pardon me for being nosy–don’t feel obligated to answer)?? Just curious. Mine (Easthampton) is shown, surprisingly. That’s usually one that’s left out!
.
Great picture. The train is awesome, but that truck is awesomer.
awesomer??
(don’t ever change)
awesome
awesomer
awesomest
Exactly!
Too bad about the graffiti on the stop sign.
You just can’t get away from it, unfortunately.

a little cutie

These last two are both photos of someone who needs a hug.
?–I can’t make out the signature
Which one?

His “resume” page on ArtStation says
“Eli Fabien
Designer,Illustrator,Christian
Guangzhou, China”
Yet I found no other leads.

I’ll go with option #2…

There’s now a museum at the location.
If i recall my “Two Years Before the Mast” correctly, Dana took a mule trip of several days to reach the pueblo high up in the hills.
The museum and original site is near downtown L.A.
But I don’t know what the terrain looked like to sailors back them.
…
“Two Years Before the Mast” will remain forever in my memory as the very first book I ever allowed myself to return to the library unfinished.
I was eight or nine years old, and enchanted with sea stories, like the Admiral Hornblower books.
I’d seen mention of Dana in another book, that made it sound fascinating, and decided I MUST read it.
But slogging through endless lists of cargo off and cargo laded was just too much for a fourth grader.
I had to tell my teacher I gave up, and then i felt guilty for years.
Congrats to you for sticking with it.
….
I think I was in high school when another teacher said if she didn’t like a book, she didn’t finish it…
And suddenly, I felt free!
Looking at maps, “Downtown” is about 25 miles from San Pedro where Dana’s ship docked. That’s a pretty good donkey ride!
Perro loves his whip! Nobody gives him credit…
After that speech, they would never suspect him. Time to go to work. Perro to the rescue!!
The carnage in the Godzilla Bassets video is horrific.
Indeed it was! But I AM glad it was all caught by the camera, if for nothing more than to warn citizens in outlying areas.
(And, how well done that video was! Great production!)
Look out Cleveland!
Especially the cardboard areas!
They knocked over a whole city, as though the tall buildings were nothing but cardboard!
Oh, the horror!
¡Hola, Cleo amigos!!
Perro™ is back… and once again, we follow his great adventure… es muy beeootiful!
Yesterday…. a galleon on the ocean brought the dog we know will soon be our hero…
but hiding his secret identity…. traveling in the guise of his alter ego, the handsome, mustachioed Don Doggo de Basset!
…
Coming home to save early California from some serious problems…
One of them being the urgent need for a superhero.
Perro™ may not have X-ray eyes, or the ability to fly…
but he’s got enormous brown eyes…
and he’s a whiz with a sword, wears really tight pants, and can capture ladies hearts in a single bound…
and sometimes he even wears a cape!
Good enough for me.
….
So gather round, amigos, because now that Don Doggo has actually arrived on the scene… the saga begins in earnest!
The sight of a sweet, defenseless female being bullied by the merciless henchmen of El Comandante Slurez has stirred him.
Is his wagging tail a symbol of great control, the sign of a consummate actor, as his friend Fernando appears to believe…
or is it an unconscious and almost dangerous “tell”?
…
Whether or not he is tipping his hand… or his paw… the desire for action is obviously rising in his canine breast.
He may be managing to hide it from El Comandante…
But I think we shall soon see another side of him.
Viva Perro™!
Not yesterday. Nononono…
Yesterday to him…. at least metaphorically.
He doesn’t take breaks for movies.
…
Then again, we may not be seeing him every day.
Perhaps it took him three days to get from the scene on the boat to the one in el pueblo…. or nine. Boats are slow.
…
In point of fact, I have no idea when it was…
I was merely using a literary convention.
Yesterday was “Silence of the Bassets”. Just saying…
Sigh…
Of course Perro would have won if he had met that fava-bean eater!
fava beans—and human liver
I tried to keep it fit for young pups.
(Liver?!?)
oh, and of course a glass of chianti
See what I mean?

BTW… I’m here late tonight, and probably a little goofy…
Yeah yeah, I know… but maybe goofier than usual, if it’s possible to tell.
We’ve had a three-day heat wave.
Not the worst we’ve had; today was the hottest at supposedly 99°.. but steady, not dissipating early in the evening like they usually do.
Tomorrow’s 84° is sounding quite refreshing.
…
Then when I got online, I opened a few pages and my internet quit… but it was doing something strange…
It said I was connected, but with “No internet”.
I could disconnect and reconnect… but not get to or refresh any web pages, until it finally changed its mind.
Gremlins.
Your computer was connected to your router (wire or -less) maybe?
I use Wi-Fi, not a wired connection, because there’s no Ethernet port on my laptop.
(I was surprised by that…. but I’m told that’s the way it’s going these days. No Ethernet, no optical drive…everything by Wi-Fi.)
According to the Wi-Fi stats, I was connected to my ISP, not just the modem/router, and it diligently measured the zero throughput.
….
The router connection is shown in a different place in that window, at a constant rate, as long as it’s working…
kind of a less featured spot, as generally you’re there to choose or verify your network or maybe check for data flow.
Massachusettes day!

Yay for Massachusetts Day!!!!!!!!!!
I was hoping you showed up.
happy Massa day!
Dogsniff’s town isn’t shown either…
Nor the one he used to live in.
Dunno about Mudd’s cos I don’t know exactly where he lives.
I wondered how a little dot like Easthampton made the cut.
See?
Look at that second map!
I knew Massachusetts was trying to take over the whole country!
It would only be for the good of EVERYBODY!
Badass Basset…I like it.
Good morning bassetiers…. guess what day it is.
Y’all have a great day (((((HuGz!)))))
It’s my weekend day!
