Taken in Etosha National Park in Namibia, by photographer Sonalini Khetrapal.

He writes, “Two male zebras emerged from the dust, landing blows at each other with their hooves and heads.”

….

Please play nice, pretty babies! I don’t like you landing blows!

On the road to success, I guess there are no short bridges, either.

I see a sign that says 10’…. If that’s the height of the underpass, I have to say, it’s incredibly, and in most US places illegally, low.

It does look taller than that, but who knows.

Almost all semis … even most modern buses and cabover campers, are more than ten feet tall.

Whatever… I think in any case their most valuable resource is about to be devalued.

Wow, yeah…. my brother and his wife bought the slightly smaller and cheaper Sears version of the player when it was on sale for half price… I think $149 instead of $299.

The cartridges IIRC were around $40 each, and these guys have nine.

If this set-up was the genuine Atari version, and not on sale…. we might be looking at close to a thousand bucks, and that’s in 1982-ish dollars!

Plus that giant color TV was probably another grand…. And maybe about to get Space Invaders burned in.

For the last 41 years I worked for a company that makes porch posts and columns. One of my jobs was to take old photos like the one on top, and make CAD drawings of the posts/columns for recreating them as close to the originals as possible. Sometimes they had to pass inspection by historical societies – those could be a real pain in the…umm…computer mouse. So I love this old/new photo set. (Oh – think how long it took to grow those trees!)

It looks like there’s added gingerbread in the bottom pic…

The top one looks like the 1890’s, with the landscaping just going in… if they didn’t add those frills soon, before they went out of style, it might have been done in a later restoration.

Possibly in that same 40 year timespan, by a company like the one you worked for…. that sort of restoration became popular here in the 1980s, as house values escalated.

There are over 120 types of wild bees here in the Botanical Garden Munich.

I’ve got some kind that chew perfectly round circles out of the rose leaves.

I was told by my neighbor that they’re beneficial, and don’t sting, and the holes don’t hurt the plants… so I have no problem with them.

It looks funny though, like they’re secretly flying around with a big hole punch.

JP Steve

They’re probably chewing holes in your house too, though — sounds like carpenter bees. (they use the leaf circles to pad the tunnels where their larvae are developing.)

SusanSunshine

I was worried about that….

But as I recall (and I do have to look it up) leafcutter bees, which I think mine are called, are different from the more destructive carpenter bees.

I admit my info comes from my neighbor, who is somewhat developmentally disabled, but can read and seems to be some sort of obsessive savant when it comes to bees.

I should try the Internet too… I didn’t have it 30+ years ago when he first told me about them.

There’s not much wood they could access in my house, and I haven’t seen any damage in all that time to anything but leaves.

But probably somebody else should look.

Having watched many, many episodes of Dr. Who I’ve seen pretty much every iteration of Cyber Men. I must have missed this one. Of course, I wasn’t yet 10 years old at the time, and being in the US, I don’t recall Dr. Who getting any air time here in the early years. I have a huge collection of DVDs of the older series, but don’t remember this one. Maybe it’s “go back to the beginning and binge” time.

Took me direct to “Are you a robot” verification page, then a page where it had a full page popup wanting me to buy premium without ads.

Managed to get to the film eventually.

Oh, and Firefox didn’t like that site at all, though it could be the FF is blocked by the site.

That’s as smooth as it’s going to get I’m afraid.
It seems as if no site will accept another site’s clearances.
I don’t blame them, but it’s still annoying.
