I admire that beautiful basset poster …. just don’t like to think of bassets in this type of movie. There are times, though, when I wish bassets would be silent.

A quote from the Wikipedia article on “Imagine Dragons”:

“Dan Reynolds cites Arcade Fire, Nirvana, Muse, The Beatles, Paul Simon, Coldplay, Linkin Park,[113] Harry Nilsson, and U2 as some of his and the band’s artistic influences. In terms of success, Reynolds credits bands like Foster the People and Mumford & Sons for bringing alternative pop music to a new level of commercial success in recent years.”

When I first heard “Believer,” I thought it was a “Pink Floyd” song I’d never heard before; they must be in the other part of “some.”

that was a great animation! have to say I kept the sound down,
cause the music was annoying, but the heartwarming ending
made it a five star.

Doc Edgerton had to use a strobe light to get that kind of stuff.

Eeeeek! This is not a ‘gentle mystery’!!!

All of you are welcome to share the wonderful birthday present behind the couch, with lots of refreshments and snacks! We’ll even have a no moth admission.

P.S. I normally love Anthony Hopkins.

If anyone is interested in seeing Anthony Hopkins in another virtuoso performance as a man who becomes deeply troubled and possibly insane, see Titus Andronicus. This is one of Shakespeare’s less well-known tragedies. Hopkins plays the title role of a Roman General, with Jessica Lange as his antagonist. It is a tour de force of acting from both of them.

I keep trying to get a look at the drum kit, it is not the usual. Nice blast from the past.

I can see the drummer hitting something on the sides of the big drum, but I don’t see what. Maybe just the side of the drum?

Silence of the Bassets would be even more scary than Howling of the Bassets. At least when they are howling, you know what they are up to.

If you have never read the whole book series, I recommend it.
What Thomas Harris ended up doing to the character of Clarice Starling is just plain evil (and I mean evil / I still shudder when I think about it).

@ Everybody

Re: “Seasons in the Sun” from yesterday.
Serendipitously, my local afternoon CBC radio show ran an episode of a radio column, “Rear View Mirror,” concerning that very song.
I have yet to find a link anywhere on CBC’s site to the column, let alone a post able one, but armed with the information in that column I did find this…

…LINK…

…to an interview with Terry Jacks concerning the song’s history (his version is actually at least the third). The history is quite interesting, and the original is not what you’d expect at all.

From: My mother’s cookbook.

Escalloped Potatoes

Peel potatoes. Wash and slice thinly. Place a layer in casserole or bowl, sprinkle with flour, a little salt, and some pepper and bits of butter. Make as many layers as needed to almost fill dish, each layer having flour, seasonings, and butter. Heat milk (Whole milk, 3.25 % milk fat.) and pour over potatoes to just cover. Bake in 350° F. oven until tender, about an hour. Test for doneness. Time will depend on depth of dish and amount of potatoes. A lot can be made, or a small bowl for one or two. Start cooking earlier for a large casserole, if needed for a dinner.

Note from me: Use a sieve to sprinkle the flour in a nice thin layer. Salt and pepper to taste. Be generous with the butter bits. Place the baking dish on a metal tray in the oven to catch the inevitable boil-over. Bake on the second rack (Top rack is first.)
