Wow, this person predicted both microfiche, and in a way, ebooks!
I don’t know what year this was, but the idea of reading a book on a screen instead of paper must have seemed bizarre…. considering that some people still feel that way in 2023.
Of course this was probably considered crackpot science fantasy at the time, anyway, only known to those who wasted their time on that genre.
Nah. I had a revelation recently. I saw a Ferrari on the road and thought “wow, that looks so sharp”. Then I realized that I’d just gotten as much joy out of that car as I could possibly get, even if I owned it. It’s like visiting an art gallery. I don’t need the insurance payments, the worries about dents, and the great waste of fuel. I can have the joy and leave the problems to the owner ☺
There are a lot of ghosts in the image, so I’ll say fake. Look at the giant lips on it’s chest. I think they were overlaying negatives and reexposing portions of the photo paper to different images.
I saw this picture being used as an example of a new AI picture editing program…
I don’t remember the name of the software, but the picture was labeled “Sampson”, the name of the world’s biggest horse according to the Guinness book of records.
But this isn’t Sampson, who stood 7’2″ at the withers, which is the top of the shoulders. There are no authenticated pictures of Sampson, not even the one in Wikipedia, and this guy is more like 10 or 11 feet at the withers.
….
Unlike Photoshop, you only have to tell the new software what to alter, and it does it, eliminating the skill factor.
The commenters were discussing fears that anybody, now, and not only skilled artists, could make photography no longer prove anything…. news photos would be questionable, and photographic evidence meaningless.
It’s been that way anyway, with Photoshop, but both culprits and mistakes have been more readily found while the field has been somewhat limited.
…
So far, they’re still discoverable (we think), especially when verified facts stand in the way of belief, and mistakes are still visible…

I’m loving all the dogs. 🙂
Do it again! 😀
If you’re wondering where the people sleep…. so are they.

It turned into a very practical viewer for newspaper archives. Our local library had two view stations (nothing this cozy ☺).
Exactly… On microfiche.
Unfortunately the motion of microfiche viewers often gives me motion sickness.
I read the paper online instead.

(…sigh…)
If i was her age she wouldn’t look at me. Just through me.
I feel old. I’m ready for my park bench.
Scooch over, I’ll join you.

Treasure map!
?
Is that the Trojan Horse?
is this real?
not sure.
doesn’t look like it , does it?
Look at the flat cap of the guy with the beard, you can see the outline of the horse through it. It’s a big horse, but not that big!

I think those highlights are only coincidentally lip shaped, since the lips don’t appear elsewhere in the picture.
Not do I see any other parts of a face accidentally overlaid or used to create alterations in the image.

In response to a couple of questions from yesterday…
About “Time Bandits” and the boat hat… sort of… I found a clip, and i was going to post it here.
Then I realized that if I do, or even truly answer, it’s a significant spoiler for a great moment, that had the audience gasping.
So my answer is, watch the movie… But if you really won’t, Google “Time Bandits boat scene” and you’ll find it.
If you see the whole thing after that, there’s plenty to like but you’ll be sorry you spoiled that surprise, so I don’t want to make it too tempting.
….
The other was about Rickrolling.
If you’ve never been Rick-rolled… It was a huge internet fad, or meme… Maybe 15 years ago.
That Rick Astley song was in the late 80s, a huge international hit, played everywhere until it drove some of us crazy.
Give or take 20 years later, somebody posted a link to something that instead of the promised target, led to that very video.
People picked up the prank, till for a while, you could hardly trust a link anywhere.
Whether it was supposedly to a kitty video or a news story, all links took you to Rick Astley, so it was called being Rick-rolled.
Turned out that the teasing actually helped revive his career.
The original re-boot.
Percussive maintenance.
