I’ve always heard that too. The answer is sheer numbers. The Hurricanes engaged the bombers while the Spitfires kept the fighters busy. If they’d had enough, the Spitfires could have done it all, but the design was complicated so they couldn’t be made as quickly as the Hurricanes.
I was thinking I’d vetted and rejected this one, but Steve remembers it too…. so I guess we must have done it here.
It took me forever to find the elephant, but this time I vaguely remembered where to look.
Though I found it, it’s annoying.
Smallish hint:
The elephant is super tiny
.
Bigger hint:
It’s not really something sitting or lying about in the room on its own, like a toy, but part of something else.
Solution:
A little ways up from the lower right corner, there’s a tall purple book on a low shelf.
It’s visible next to the handle of the rake sticking up from a box in front of it. The bow of the toy boat points towards it.
On the bottom of the spine of the book there’s a teeny little drawing of the head of an elephant. That’s it. Honestly.
The last time we saw this puzzle there were the same comments, it’s the poor resolution giving us the problems. Someone — I thought it was Alexi — posted a clearer picture that made it more definitive, but I may be incorrect on that…
I, too, like Susan and Steve, remembered where the elephant was placed.
Thank you, the small hint did it. I really appreciate the levels of hints. When I couldn’t find an elephant toy I started looking BIGGER, for an elephantish arrangement of objects.
.
Carmen? Carmen Miranda? Is that really you?
My first thought too!
For moment, Just for a moment, it looked like he was being molested by a bunch of ducks. Especially with those eyes!
The duck on the right is even wearing mascara!
This dog is going bananas. Either that, or those bananas are going to the dogs.
Such Dole humor.
Those are Chiquitas, not Doles…

The Red Queen?
… as a young girl.

Spitfire!
Howcum they’re now saying Hurricanes really won the Battle of Britain?

Please don’t tell me this is AI…
I don’t think so. Looks familiar.
This is entirely possible with a narrow focal point and being focused on the bird. It truly is a lucky shot.
An image certain to strike fear into the heart of any field mice in the area.
Most things will strike fear into the heart of any field mouse…
An interview (fairly lengthy) with photographer DIPIN SREEPADMAM. and more of his photographs.
I’ve seen this movie once.
I wouldn’t get excited about seeing it again.
I love this film. I’ve seen it several times (though not recently).
Toga toga toga!
this is an Indian
…..
My Dad was on that trip in August 1939 — had to be evacuated to Switzerland when the balloon went up!
..,,
Okay, he’s no problem — but do I know her?
TWA. That should date it.
Sure… within 6 or 7 decades.
1930 to 2001.
I thought that it was earlier than that.
This
This was taken in the early 1960s.
She’s in her 90s now… by the time of his passing they’d been married for 50 years.
Thanks, once again I was clueless.
I Googled after I posted. Still didn’t recognize her!
The description below comes from HERE. Various size/type prints/mediums are for sale at the origin site.
Paul Newman, right, and Joanne Woodward, en route from New York to Los Angeles, November 1962
Krushchev’s due at Idlewild!
Car 54 where are you?
.
U.S.S.R.
The nuclear train that never was.
I think that’s supposed to be Lenin on top of the building.
find the elephant for me.
since I can’t find it for myself…
still in the same place it was last time…
BUNNY!
Once again, no one is talking about the elephant in the room.
I was thinking I’d vetted and rejected this one, but Steve remembers it too…. so I guess we must have done it here.

If that’s an elephant (I didn’t find it), someone needs an art lesson.
That little smudge?

I, too, like Susan and Steve, remembered where the elephant was placed.
This time the resolution is much better. I could see it clearly* when I zoomed in.
for very small values of “clearly…”
Thank you, the small hint did it. I really appreciate the levels of hints. When I couldn’t find an elephant toy I started looking BIGGER, for an elephantish arrangement of objects.
I was just messing around with some new software… Well, new to me, anyway.
I didn’t post an image last night because circling the elephant left it still so hard to see. I wanted to make it bigger.
I didn’t have anything to enlarge images on my tablet, and I’m having too much trouble with my Wi-Fi to use online sites.
This app purports to do enlargements, but they don’t look very good.
Still….MAYBE this will help….
Hmmm… Looks better posted than it did in the app!

Dis is hoomiliatin’!
She’s lovely. Is there video of her dancing with Rudolf Nureyev?
The Beatles will always hold a special place in my heart.
I sang along…
You know if you sang out of key I wouldn’t walk out on you.
It’s getting better all the time with a little help from my friends.
Mine too.
And that album went places rock hadn’t ever gone before.
