Bao are usually slightly sweet, leavened white flour dough, often soft and puffy, that encases the filling and makes a roundish or sometimes football shaped ball…
some have pointed ends but most are twisted on top.
Looks like a dumpling but it’s raised, and “bready”, not “noodly”(my words) .. dry, not wet… sometimes a little sticky.
Usually steamed, not boiled in water or baked.
…
The more open ones folded around a filling are much smaller than tacos…. soft and thick, maybe 3″ long… not thin and flat like a 5 to 10” tortilla…
and of course, the flavors are Asian.
…
I used to go to bakeries in San Francisco’s Chinatown where there were many varieties to choose from, sweet, savory, and everything in between… all steamed…
sometimes boiled dumplings and cut pieces of baked cakes, as well.
IIRC, they were, traditionally, not full of fresh vegetables, at that time.
…
Char siu (red-roasted pork) is the best known and most popular with Westerners…
But we also bought them full of various colors of bean and yam pastes, black beans, seeds, etc…
usually in traditional shapes, sometimes with red Chinese lettering on the dough.
For instance a pointy shape rolled in sesame seeds was a sweet bean paste I liked, at no matter which bakery.
A few places had chicken or fish bao, too.
…
Dim sum in a restaurant means various bao, dumplings, vegetables, fried tofu, syrupy agar gelatin, and other tiny dishes chosen from a cart or tray, the price of the meal totaled at the end.
Basically you eat whatever looks good and try new things as you go.
Still, all quiet on the Eastern front! …..probably, there won’t be anything until later in the day, so, with fingers crossed, there’s still time for a lot of the storm’s force to dissipate. I’m hopeful for that, anyway. I’ll keep you posted throughout as I can.
Sad to say but we’re just getting started. Pouring rain and strong breezes (like any ol’ rainy day) for the last 6+ hours, and it’ll be getting much, much worse, according to the weather people. We’re expecting (but, certainly not hoping for) lots of flooding, downed trees and power outages.
Reports from my friends at Cape Cod: they think the hurricane turned and missed them. No rain now, and just strong breezes. Hope that remains the case, since they’re in an RV near the shore.
Sorry to hear that. When I posted CNN were reporting it was all over but the shouting in NY. (I admit to being somewhat confused by eastern US geography…)
@Nighthawks If you ask me, I think there’s a lot of potential over the last 3-4 panels to move Cleo’s eyes around so she is breaking the fourth wall. A wink, an eye roll, a knowing glance, …
This is one of the very early GIFs that we did when we were still learning. Oh, yes….there would be a lot of changes if it were to get redone, yet I still have a soft spot in my heart for these early efforts.
As long as he can still pour coffee it isn’t too bad…..but it is too bad he can’t drink it. Clara needs to keep the super glue under lock and key. She should know her husband better by now. And, please hide the scissors!

So what happens to baby bao?
I think this is the whole thing:

Thanks for the longer version. I had trouble finding it last night, and could only come across rental ones.
If it’s wrapped in a tortilla, then it’s a taco!
From what I understand, it’s mostly wrapped in a bun-like dough, though. But, I may be wrong….
Vegan Hoisin Mushroom Bao
But, whatever…..it ALL looks good, right?

Amazing!
AINT THAT THE TRUTH !!!
I sure am glad you got a word in about the music and mothers from Nashville.
And when you talk about the Lovin’ Spoonful, there’s always this…
Hah! That was my vote for last night!
Another one being blocked!
Weird! Maybe I’ll find another copy…
I looked last night because I wanted one where they’re playing, and only found this one….
YouTube is vast, though.
Sorry, I had written a reply to Dennis about “Nashville Cats(?)” being blocked in Canada, but I guess I never pressed “Post.”
It is? Why? Some copyright thing?
That’s what the notice in the Youtube box says. Blocked on copyright grounds…
The Faith Hill video was fun, don’t know when it was made but a lovely animation of her in the blossoms.
OMB! Basset pups meet Dad! Great video!
I agree. Except I think Dad is saying ~ ‘get these things away from me!’.
I noticed that when a pup stopped bothering Pop, Pop sniffed the pup, so he is curious too.
I don’t care how many cars they used to show hanging from a Superglued .hook..
never trust it for load-bearing.
Epoxy either.

Fix a cracked knickknack, a picture frame, even replace a rhinestone, but nothing valuable.
Never the clasp on your precious pearls… especially never a gearshift knob.
Mark my words.
Fingers are the only things I’ve found that truly bond instantly and permanently with superglue!
That is the conclusion I’ve come to, as well!
Looks like Henri is still on the path projected earlier….’
It’s supposed to be turning to the East in a few hours, a little to the North of where StelBel lives.
She’s on the Western edge of the area that may be affected.
Hopefully it won’t receive the full blast of the storm… but you never know… and power outages may occur there anyway.
…
Good luck, Stel!
Hope you have power, and can see this…
and will let us know you’re OK!

We’ve got friends on the Keys, and it’s hurricane season, so… take care.
It’s six hours later — looks like you’re going to be okay now

I’ll keep you posted….
They didn’t head home when they heard the warnings??!!
Yikes.
They’ll.brave anything to get you to keep their dog a few more days, won’t they.
LOL!!

Indeed! LOL

This is a wow every time i see it.
? hey Hap, what exactly are we seeing?
uh…yeah! I second that!
That is a hollow sphere being made by explosive hydro forming.
In the beginning you see the shape before the explosives go off.
The pre sphere is filled with water and a small charge is set off in the middle and the shockwave forms the sphere.
I frequently glue my fingers together trying to fix hearing aids. Those parts are TINY!
