That Vincente Asesinato is perhaps the worse of these two evils. “Read my middle finger” is his slogan. Oh, Perro, the peasants await your whip!

Taken from the Wikipedia article on Barraud.

It is difficult to say how the idea came to me beyond the fact that it suddenly occurred to me that to have my dog listening to the phonograph, with an intelligent and rather puzzled
expression, and call it His Master’s Voice would make an excellent subject. We had a phonograph and I often noticed how puzzled he was to make out where the voice came from. It was certainly the happiest thought I ever had.

Yikes! A dozen bassets and a steep flight of stairs. This lady is a glutton for punishment.

I make it 14. If you look really closely you can make out two bassets under whatever the official name of that table/drawer thing on the side is (you can see the left ear of the one wagging its tail at us so that nose must be a different dog) .

Steep stairs might be a way to keep ’em all downstairs.

Are they all waiting for the bathroom? I’m sure the guy with the bottle in his hand is.

Silly to go back and forth, or say that you’re “right” about how many bassets there are…

The resolution isn’t great, so they’re impossible to count… I make it at least 14, maybe 15:

Right by the door, there are two spotted ones, that look like only one…

But you can tell by the rump on the left, and by the bend of the one visible leg, that the one in back, by the door, is facing right, the slightly closer, smaller one, facing left.

There’s also a dividing line between their spots… Maybe the ear of the back one behind the shoulder or rump of the other.

Moving towards us, then there’s a large tan one, then a spotted one facing us, and another across the little hallway, who may or may not be partly under the hall table.
5 dogs so far.

5 more on or near the round rug in the middle, plus a black and tan one under the table… So now we have 11.

3 down front makes 14.

But there’s a black and white “object” under the middle of the table that could be a 15th dog, or maybe part of the dog I already counted near the door (though I don’t think so)… Or maybe an inanimate object, like a vacuum cleaner.

Finally, though… the front dog is facing us, looking backward from the crowd… isn’t that because there are even more of them coming up from the part of the hall we can’t see?

….

These people are crazy!

I think they’re both women… Hard to say.

Plural?

Yes; nobody has mentioned the second one, around the corner… only her hands and part of her face are visible.

Maybe some of you have seen her, and just didn’t say so.

There could be more bassets hidden in that direction too.

I hope this is a rescue organization, or maybe doggie daycare….

And not that they live with 15 or 20 basset hounds.

Yikes.

The description of the poster below comes from      HERE.     I think the “formerly secret…” line is used as we-know-the-base-exists and not that it is open to the public.
My reasoning relies on the “Popular mechanics” June 24, 2022 article      HERE

“Area 51, Nevada travel poster inspired by vintage and mid-century travel posters.
Featuring a hovering “sport model” UFO on the mysterious grounds of the formerly
secret government grounds at Groom Lake.”

This Animals song reflects an interesting time in men’s hair. You could grow it a bit longer if it was well groomed. An ongoing battle in Catholic schools and others. Beatles were also being good boys. Finally it fizzled and men could grow hair as long as they wanted.

I met some guys with very long hair, hanging out after school in the Rathskeller, the beer(!) hall and restaurant in the University of Wisconsin student union…

when I was an innocent, starry eyed, wannabe Bohemian high school girl …

(one who never even dreamed of ordering or even tasting a beer, but nonetheless lied to her parents about being in the chemistry lab.)

Lots of poetic types with shoulder length hair.

One fellow they called “little Jesus” was very tall, with hair to his waist, a beard, and bare feet.

Strangely, it didn’t faze me at all. I was just happy to be friends with college boys and what I at 15 and 16 considered intellectuals…

Discussing Shelley and Keats and reciting “Jabberwocky”. LOL

This was slightly before the Beatles were known in the US…

When I saw them I didn’t understand the fuss… I thought they had short hair.

The Danish exchange student in my high school already had that haircut…

No one said it was long, but they teased him about his “bangs” because American boys combed their hair BACK, not forward.

@ bambushie

From yesterday.

Out of curiosity, I cut and pasted just under 7,500 words from a Wikipedia article on the Cleveland Guardians and their name (according to Word) into a comment box. The posting was accepted without any hassle whatever. WordPress even erased any evidence of the pictures in the article too without leaving gaps.
I left it up for less than a minute, so perhaps time has to pass before WordPress programming picks such a comment up and deletes it.

I think that’s what’s in question, Alexi…

If I’m understanding correctly, Bambushie also posted successfully…

but some time later, it was gone.

I’m posting this as a straight U.R.L..
I came across it while looking to find a comment size limit (all the recent forums say that there isn’t one; which pretty much agrees with a 2006 post which says it’s 64K characters / using my typing class standard of five characters per word, that’s 12,800 words including spaces as characters / at 60 words/minute that’s over 3 1/2 hours of typing….so no limit) .

https://wordpress.com/pricing/

On my computer the annual pricing works out to $60.00 – $120.00 – $396.00 – $708.00 Canadian per year.
I’m curious as what it is in U.S. $ and Euros.
I’m reasonably certain that these are really basic pricing and that there are a lot of “extras” available at extra cost (I remember a comedy routine about an automobile purchase where the salesman said in astonishment to the customer “Oh, you want an engine?” / I don’t remember who the comic was).

¡Hola, Cleomigas y Cleomigos!

Here we have it! The real picture of the graft and corruption in some of the pueblas of the time.

No justice for los Indigenas… the goal was to take the land and everything it produced, use the local population for cheap or free labor, and get rich.

(A lot of that still going on, I fear, but not so blatantly.)

As for these two would-be overlords…

While to each other, they would probably boast of their machismo, and their skill with las senoritas ….

they’re actually so fixated on money and other ill-gotten gains, they don’t even notice the loveliness of the captive Senorita Voluptuosa.

….

Yes, I know… she’s all wrapped up in her righteous indignation, and her protest…

and more significantly, when it comes to noticing her charms, in her skirts and her serape, which hide her considerable assets.

But we know she has them… I mean, this is a comic strip, and her name is Senorita Voluptuosa, right?

Something like that in a comic strip is never a coincidence… it’s a dead giveaway.

Yeah, yeah… she’s a basset hound, and they’re… well, I hate to call them human, when they’re so inhumane… let’s say they’re non-canine.

I don’t think that’s generally an impediment in a comic strip, though.

Their impediment is greed, pure and simple.

Meanwhile, I’m sure our future hero Perro continues to think about riding…

and that soon… very soon, mis amigos… we’ll see him do it!
