Stel. this is a great blend of artists. Of course you used Cleo Picasso’s rendition of the Don.

I hope somebody turns that rain off…

Leaving the rain on all the time in a picture might wash all the ink away, or at least make a huge puddle…

Then the lady with her dog might not walk to the corner, and no one will paint her there… so Nighthawks will lose another image to post.

I cannot find a reliable credit for the photographer, but there is sufficient evidence around to say this is somewhere in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The “КАФе” sign translates to “coffee.”

Yet there is a CocaCola sign on this side.
Could it be a sign by Russian Jews in NY? Or Chicago?

Uh… No.

At least, probably not.

For one thing, Russian Jewish immigrants were mostly into assimilation…

Russian Jews who escaped persecution spoke Yiddish, not Russian, or the languages of wherever they fled from, and most were proud of learning English.

So if they did want to draw trade based on their ethnic identity, the signs would most probably be in Yiddish…

Usually written smaller, below the English, in Hebrew characters, though Yiddish is a Germanic language.

A huge sign saying “Coffee” only in Russian is unlikely.

But I’m curious as to why you would single out “Russian Jews”, anyway….

There are plenty of Russian immigrants who are NOT Jewish.

Maybe THEY might have a sign in Russian,

but for business purposes, probably their biggest signs would be in English too.

Anyway, the other signs in the picture look like they might be in Cyrillic, as well…

And Coca-Cola signs are found all over the world.

The Coca-Cola company used to pay for awnings if little restaurants and stores would sell and advertise Coke, and not Pepsi…
even in some foreign countries.

I’m also curious as to why Alexikakos specified St. Petersburg.

This comes from the film “Loving Vincent.”

The following quote….

In the world’ s first fully oil-painted feature film, the artist’s paintings come to life with dream-like surrealism.
Multitudes had been eagerly awaiting the screening of Loving Vincent at Mumbai Film Festival 2017……

…..comes from     HERE.     A link to the movie “Loving Vincent” appears below (it’s long). As usual, click through the clutter and go full screen, the movie is there.

Another good one.
I tried to zoom up Howarth’s work, but unfortunately the programming did not permit it.
I’ll look for some a bit later today.
As I have said and implied, I like these Pete Beard videos. Thanks for posting your finds.

The impossible dream…. indeed!

Two disparate works, which have somehow come together as one:

A late 19th century oil, by the great post-impressionist painter, Van Gogh….
And a mid-20th century sketch by the renowned Dogcasso…

(which, BTW, was long thought to be a simple pen and black ink drawing….
but a possible original copy has been unearthed, in blue, which has thrown its presumed provenance into question).

They’ve now been joined, to make a third version
a 21st century reworking, put together by the Queen of Tampering… our own StelBel.

It really seems to fit.

Well except for the poor reaper.

And possibly… a windmill here or there. But they have lots of them.

Love the clips… which are, of course, from yet a fourth rendering of the Dog Quixote story…

the human version of the basset musical, “Hound of Las Munchies.”

It was called “The Man of La Mancha” whatever a Mancha is.

The Petey O’Drool part was played here by a human actor called Peter O’Toole… who admittedly can’t sing, so his voice was dubbed by a human singer.

I’m told that O’Drool, however, did his own howling… do see the basset version, if you get a chance.

….

Funny side note… well, to me, but I’m easily amused…. though I think I may have told it before…

A little seedless watermelon I bought had a rather pretty sticker on the rind that said “Dulcinea”.

It featured a very nice looking sun face, so I stuck it on my fridge.(For some reason I kinda like sun faces. 🌞 )

I kept trying to place the name, till one day, pondering, I thought “Dulcinea… Dulcinea… ” and the double rendition apparently made my brain cells kick in.

That sticker is long gone… but when I see those melons in the store, “The Impossible Dream” starts up in the earworm compartment of my brain.

La Mancha means The Spot, the rather sad little region of which Quixote was Don.

And, of course, Dulcinea refers to sweetness.

Lo, these many moons ago, I was in the local production of “Man…”. I was the Knight of Mirrors, who was, outside of the fantasy, the don’s (soon to be?) Son-in-Law.

I know what you mean about earworms. Sometimes I stop and ask, “Why that song” and then trace it to some conversation or event IRL.

I once sent my sister a bottle of Crown Royal (I don’t remember if it was for Christmas or her birthday / probably Christmas, but don’t hold me to that) .
She didn’t open it until she took it on a summer camping trip and she and the other girls used it for dunking marshmallows for toasting in the campfire.
She did say they were good.

Interesting but expensive combination. They probably had a few sips between marshmallows.

When i was very young mom decided to make him some rum balls for x-mass.
She used half a bottle of XO Napoleon brandy.

Similar to Evie Stone’s (“Stone Soup”; Val’s and Joan’s Mom) recipe for rum cake?
Did your child(ren) lick the beaters and bowl, too (like Holly – Val’s 13-year-old daughter – did)?

I noticed that too. LOL

I wondered whether in some countries they say “kee-hoat” … the way we Americans say “par-iss” instead of “par-ee”, and Dr. “Soose” instead of “zoyce”.
