I read someplace that there is a group tryin to get the funding for a period piece, much closer to the book. It showed some pre production storyboard art that showed the Martian machines as tripod machines. Not Pal’s manta ray.
“The chances of anything coming from Mars, are a million to one, he said” “The chances of anything coming from Mars, are a million to one, but still, they come….”
It’s a thin copper sheathing… AFAIK it never looked bright gold, but reddish brown.
France gave the statue to the US, funding it with donations from the people of France to honor American liberty.
The US was to gather donations from the American people to fund the pedestal… It almost didn’t get built.
Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi, the sculptor, wanted us to also gold plate the copper, but that proved far too expensive.
Inside, the statue is made of various materials, mostly metals, over a hollow steel frame designed by Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel, designer of the Eiffel Tower, who was hired by Bartholdi.
According to a photography website I found via an image search….
a woman named Annie Katz, who has been a sports photographer for the Miami Herald and a freelance wildlife photographer, won honorable mention with this photo in their photojournalism contest in 2016.
Their description of the photo:
“To make money in Cuba you have to be ingenious.
This man has three dachshunds that he dresses up in various attire and they SING together!
The dogs have watches, leather jackets, sunglasses, beads….anything you can think of…and they all sing in harmony into the microphone.
Tourists love the act and because of his ingenuity, this man & his dogs are a hit on the streets of Havana!”
I thought it looked photoshopped, mostly because of the white edges of the dog. But if you look closely, it’s wearing Cuban pins on its bow-tie.
If this is Jane Wyman, it’s the prettiest picture of her I’ve ever seen.
In fact, I don’t mean to be catty or anything, but it’s so pretty I really don’t think it’s her.
Jane Wyman (Ronald Reagan’s first wife, BTW) was nice looking, but not a perfect, classical beauty like this. She had very prominent cheeks, and not this delicate oval face.
I’m thinking this is Vivien Leigh… who played Scarlett O’Hara in “Gone With the Wind.”
One of the most beautiful faces ever in Hollywood.
That would be cheating… but it could very well be.
I also see something else sort of monkeyish…
It’s…
in the basket/giraffe feeder (or whatever those are) on the pole on the left… In the middle square of the top row of square openings… Is that a monkey face?
Engelbert Humperdinck is the actual name of an actual person. He was a German composer, born in the mid 1800’s, died in the 1920’s. He wrote operas and vocal music, Hansel und Gretel being his most famous. Why Mr. Dorsey chose it for his stage name is anyone’s guess.
.
That’s a happy face. 😊 Lying in some grass, with flowers nearby, with your human, … everything smells good.

I’m questioning whether they really got the most lurid shade of red available.

Damn potholes.

I don’t speak German… But the article appears to be about a bus accident??
A tragedy rather.
I tried to provide the page in English – the google-translate-tool for Firefox is quite handy – but that doesn’t look good with copy&paste.
Would a screenshot of the translated page be sufficient? Just tell me.
That would be great, if it’s not too late or too much trouble
I tried to use the Google “translate this page” feature on my tablet but on this small screen, the sections didn’t stay open.
That meant the page was mostly closed sections and links. Some worked in translation and some didn’t.
You’re welcome! Hope it helps.
That happened on my late mother’s 70th birthday, and she lived here in Munich, too:
Thanks
Yes… Thank you.
I didn’t get back yesterday.
No problem.
I understand.

I know him! I can’t dredge up a name! I hate my brain! 🙁
Jim? Jay? Dang it! 🙁
If my search is correct it’s nobody famous.
A descriptive caption for this ANNIE KATZ photograph.
I looked but could not find either his name or any film or tape of their performances.
We have seen this previously. IIRC someone found out that it was two images photoshopped together.

The site seemed legit, but who knows
But that doesn’t look like a dachshund!
I know.
Maybe it’s mixed.
Also the tiny ones have faces kind of like that.
That caption is the only thing I found.
Still reminds me of someone. A comic?
It will come to me.
Jim Varney maybe?
Aka “Ernest”.
That’s it! Thank you.
,.
This one is not as jumpy. I like it. 🙂
Your eyeball must be more stable than mine…

<3
I’d like to think those are their actual pets….
I saw a couple of different pictures with the same dogs, so I suppose it’s possible.
Then again, it’s just too perfect… The big guy with the little dog, and vice versa.
Gotta love the leash on the little guy.
By GETTY IMAGES, these are indeed their dogs.
I saw that, thanks.
But it’s a studio publicity picture.
In those days actors posed for a lot of stunts that might have been true, but might have been merely composed as comedy.

Aha… I thought I recognized her.
oops!
even the name of the image says JW—-anyway,I just thought she was beautiful , I had to post it
find a monkey
He’s hanging on the railing!
Oh… for some reason I missed your post.
I think we’re seeing the same thing.
I’m thinking
That would be cheating… but it could very well be.

I’m not quite convinced.
I think I vote for the hat decoration.
That’s what I picked too.
After the posts got scrambled you can’t tell who I’m agreeing with LOL. I agree with LiverLips on this one.
Here is the official answer.
thanks
BAH! I still agree with LiverLip’s answer.
Thank you. 😉👨🦳
…
Hot rock on one side, sunshine on the other. Life is good.
A very confident kitty, sleeping so close to sliding off into the water.
Could be in Busan near a place we used to be as patrons.
Cleo has got the hammer part down. What she needs to learn now is the throw part.
I expected to see that 6 pound metal “shot”, followed by a whirling Cleo, flying straight into the front window, and smashing it!
BTW, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You”, illustrated with photos of Ingrid Bergman, is sung by Engelbert Humperdinck
(Who was born Arnold Dorsey, and originally recorded under the name Gerry Dorsey.
I guess he wanted something a little easier to spell.)
Yes, I heard that his manager picked it out of a book and he said OK.
