How much slobber do you think is on the arm of that sofa?
OR
Put another way, do you think it’s measured in pints, or quarts?

Makes you think they’re totally squishable…. Like there’s really no solid dog inside.

That muzzle must actually be rather thin, underneath the layers of floppy jowl and empty skin.

The front legs, as well, seem to be more skin than dog, a pelt that could compete with a Shar Pei’s for looseness.

But if you think that means there’s really only a small bit of dog in there … just try picking one up

Fly. The eyes are the tell.

I wondered about that.

At first I thought paper wasp, but the eyes are too big and red, and the body segments too close together.

Hoverfly? They don’t sting or bite.

Bees are more rounded. They and yellowjackets fly with their legs tucked up.

Paper wasp legs dangle.

I try to notice the difference because I get all three and I’m allergic to yellowjacket bites.

…..

I’ve been told I shouldn’t kill the paper wasps, which eat other pests, and are seldom aggressive.

However…

One stung me rather painfully last night on the palm of my hand, so I don’t feel as friendly as I oughta.

I thought it was a yellowjacket at first but I didn’t swell up, then I remembered seeing its legs.

Hoverfly is correct.
I was on my way to bed.

S’ok… We tend to call them all bees, casually…

Not that Steve would approve.

I have always wondered about that expression.

Eating pie is simple.

Baking pie… Not so much.

Good thing the birds probably don’t understand the shape.

If any do use it, they look pretty funny sitting on the tongue.

This looks a lot like the stuff a friend used to paint on nails!

Finger nails, not carpenter’s nails.

She was a manicurist, who wore and created long acrylic “tips”, with little paintings on them.

Hopefully still is, though maybe retired by now, but she moved to Nevada years ago.

Her specialty was backgrounds of brilliant red sunsets, with black silhouettes on top…. mostly desert cacti, animal skulls, and Western gear, but sometimes those same trees.

Other nails had white clouds and rainbows over blue or grey skies, with or without black butterflies and trees.

She never put all the colors on in one stroke, though… her teeny brushes looked like elves would use them.

And she’d affix one sequin or rhinestone to a nail.

She never could understand my refusal to wear fake nails, and I never understood why people want pictures on their fingertips…

But that’s ok.

Me too.

Sorry, Val.

She would have given me a $150 – $200 set (1999 price) in trade for a few haircuts…

But I couldn’t do it.

All of the artists portrayed are lead singers AND play piano. I always have respect for singers who also do their part in the musical fabric, whether via piano or guitar.

Yikes!

I’m glad it looks like those giant guinea pigs are photoshopped…. Or maybe printed on the blanket?

It’s ok… I’d hate for them to be the result of some sort of atomic radiation, like in a sci-fi movie!
