Being a banner lady was even lower on the scale.
It wasn’t a job a “respectable” woman would take, parading around for people to look at, especially men, because even though they were well covered up, it was considered rather brazen.
The same could be said for actresses… but they were also considered brazen and low class. Unless they got famous enough to draw an audience and demand higher pay, they weren’t paid much either.

Are there Dukes of Hazzard conventions where people trade memorabilia and cosplay as Daisy Duke? Yeah I know her name, cos it became a nickname for miicro-shorts like hers.
Elephants are incredibly devoted mothers, and will watch out for each other’s babies…
I’ve seen videos where they save other kinds of babies, too, if they’re having problems… One was saving a baby deer that was going to drown in a fast current, while its mother panicked on the river bank, not strong enough to wade in.
Another was pushing a lion cub to safety, not caring that it was a baby predator.
