I knew Don Cherry hadn’t come up with the “Rock’Em Sock’em” bit on his own, but never having been a fan of his, I was never interested enough to find out where he got it from; now I know.
No link, just the title. Sportsnet fired him in 2019.
The full Mattel Toy commercial (1 minute / and if he’s from Texas — so am I).
I’m not sure this would be allowed air play today; I haven’t been specifically looking, but I still go through store toy aisles for fun; I don’t think I’ve seen a cap gun in years.
In February 2022, Mattel will be in its 78th year (founded January, 1945)
Loved them as kids. Might still be a Fanner 50 somewhere in the family. I have a few caps stashed away in a closet if I dig deep enough. I’ll get them out when the grandkids are a little bit older.
I remember take a single roll of caps and going down in the basement
where the sound reverberated , setting the roll on the cement basement
floor and slamming my dad’s hammer into it……
I think my ears are still ringing
Ahhhhhh — WordPress (sigh) ! !
I didn’t know StelBel’s cover was an animation until I read your comment.
I copied the “image address (it turns out to be a .gif)” and pasted it in this comment. For me, clicking on it works for exactly one cycle. I can repeat clicking on it after I close a cycle out, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a .gif.
P.S.
I sent you a short e-mail just before posting this.
To Alexi and everyone else who experienced problems with today’s Christmas animation:
It appears that it was one of those rare and very bothersome glitches. Nighthawks works on a MAC, and I work on a PC. The GIF was working perfectly on his MAC and my iPad, but the trio didn’t move an animated muscle on my PC.
So, I switched the GIF with a copy of mine from the PC, and it seems to working fine now (fingers crossed that it’s working for everybody, now!).
tell me again how you can see all who liked,as it disappears when you move the curser!

MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all from Perkycat. I’m on my tablet and not logged in. My password is at home. I hope you all have a wonderful, wonderful Christmas. Ours is a very white one!
I am open to correction, but I think StelBel’s and nighthawks’ s animated (if you have it / and I do hope you do, because the one cycle I can see is really good) “Saturday Basset Post” cover was inspired by:
“The Christmas Trio” 1923 Norman Rockwell
and that’s because I cannot find a similar 1920 cover anywhere.
Not here in the west Willamette Valley yet. It’s supposed to start sometime today. There was a bit of rain/snow mix yesterday, but the only way I could tell was by how it splattered on the windshield.

Merry Christmas
For Christmas Day, we’re taking in the winter views on Mount Khomyak in Ukraine’s
Carpathian Mountains. The bright green moss and the red of the fallen leaves pop
against the snowy white, as though the forest were transforming into a magical band
of Christmas elves. While much of the Christian world celebrates Christmas on
December 25, for those who follow Eastern Orthodox Christian traditions—including
many Ukrainians—Christmas is still a couple weeks away. Eastern Orthodox Christmas
celebrations are tied to the Julian calendar, which is 13 days behind the more universal
Gregorian calendar, so Christmas Day in Ukraine will be celebrated on January 7.
In many Eastern European cultures, a traditional Christmas Eve dinner consists of 12
meat-free courses meant to symbolize the 12 disciples of Christ. For the Ukrainian feast,
kutia, a sweet wheat grain pudding, is a star of the meal—other dishes may include
braided bread, fish, and soup. The meal begins when children spot the first star that
appears in the night sky. Christmas Day is typically spent in church services and with
family.
If you’re celebrating Christmas—either today or in 13 days—we wish you a merry one.

I see them at the farm supply stores.

Love the smell, too.
History channel has been running a show on Sunday nights called “They Toys that Built America.” I’ve found it very interesting.
I got eight fairly fast. I’ll have to come back for number nine later.
Happy Christmas!
Thank you, and to you! 🙂

At first glance, dog and deer.
Doing a search:
Woman standing in lane, and an obscured upright-log dirt barricade..

MERRY CHRISTMAS to the Whole Gang!
It’s SNOWING! WooHoo!

I had some sleet on the windshield here at the coast this morning.
It’s just cold and quiet now.

They look inflatable…
I thought they were fake, at first, and, yet……not.
I know since I totally believe you – but having seen those inflatable ones, I just couldn’t resist.
With my usual extreme pareidolia (q.v.)….
My first thought, before my eyes really focussed, was that it was some sort of sculpture of Christmas elves, or other mythical beings…
Red jackets, maybe green legs and brown stockings, or brown legs and green shorts … No time to really think about it…
Upside down, heads and bodies stuck deep in the snow, with their slender legs pointing up into the air.
Yes, yes…. I know.
