I got 5 last night and 8 this morning ~~ rested eyes. The one I missed, I don’t feel bad about. Could have looked for days and never gotten it. It is a cute picture, though!
I only found eight, but I was drawn to where the one I missed was. I knew there was something wrong, but I couldn’t recognize it.

Much as I love the Shirelles, I have to vote for Alley Oop and his dinosawer as tonight’s winner.

As I look upon today’s FTND puzzle, the thought lands that, if you are any sort of domestic animal, and you encounter a blazing fire … well …
If you can just lay down wherever you choose and toast your buns just shy of marshmallow, that is as close to heaven as you can conceive of.
Now that the solution has been provided, I feel free to make another observation about the drawing. See the ornaments hanging in front of the cabinet at the far side of the room, next to the fireplace? To me, they resemble eyes staring out the window. Note: This is NOT one of the diffs, hence no spoiler alert.
This is the classic Wright Brothers moment, but to me it’s way down the ladder of their achievements. They invented the wind tunnel. They invented the science of weigh-lift-drag evaluation. They were methodical where others of the day were mercurial.
Before I complain about how hard it was to find all the differences, I want to compliment Nighthawks on the incredible fire. Drawing fire is very difficult and that picture looks good enough to warm me on this cold morning.
Over the years, I’ve forgotten a lot of the birthdays of relatives and friends. The two that I never seem to forget, however, are my great-nephew’s birthday (10-11-12) and the little girl who was our neighbor until we moved away in 1966: a December 17th birthday! I haven’t seen her since then, and yet, I remember her birthday every year! I wonder why?
My daughter’s birthday is today. I don’t think I will forget that one!
Hard to know why the brain remembers some things and forgets others ~ even really important things.
Every year I find myself thinking for a moment that it’s time to send him a birthday card… but he passed away in 2001, and we hadn’t spoken in about two years.
Maybe there’s something about December 17th that sticks in the mind.
December 16 = Beethoven’s birthday. Don’t know why I remember only his and not, say, Bach or Mozart, or any other composer.
Once, about 35 years ago, I hosted a birthday party for him, at which I made a German-themed dinner; sauerbraten, a potato and onion concoction I have forgotten the name of, and at least one more dish. The sauerbraten is the thing I remember most clearly because it had to marinate for close to a week, and of course it matters greatly what you put into that marinade. I looked up a bunch of recipes for it, mixed and matched particular spices and herbs from all of them, turned the roast over in the marinade every day and just generally paid a lot of attention to it. The end result was fantastic, if I do say so myself. Sweet, sour, fork-tender.
Ever since then, I have remembered Beethoven’s b’day.
.
Shikamoo! Is that you?
..
And a-waay we go!
Jackie Gleason’s music was a big favorite!!
You can be somebody if you are working for a man.
ironic.
Yeah, I was fooled for a minute.
I thought somebody waaay back then was actually saying that us “girls” could be doctors, lawyers, or executives.
But, sadly, no.
….
The really sad thing is, it isn’t even from back that far…
The three digit phone prefix, with no letters, and the mention of student loans, means it’s probably from the late 60’s, or even the early 70’s.
Shame on them!
Still, it WAS a step on the road from where we were a hundred years to where we are now.
Wow, sad.
i started out by earning a math award in local college. after the kids were grown, eventually i became the CFO of a large company.

Four and goodnight.
I know it’s a big crowd, and a cold night…
But no pushing, no shoving, please!
There’s plenty of toasty warm puzzle solution for everybody!
While you’re waiting in line, just double-check your own finds, and make sure you’ve got as close to nine as possible….
Then when it’s your turn, just step right up, and gitcher nice hot differences
Got the same nine. Hooray!
i had to stop at 8. almost there. the one i missed was easy, too.

For a minute, I took that to mean you found thirteen!
I was thinkin’ “UH oh!”
I guess I should have said that differently. I understood what I was saying at the time.
I did too, of course, after a startled moment… it’s just me, not you.
I only ended up with six.

Now that you mention it………
I saw it as eyes with glasses staring out from the cabinet.
I’d love to sit and chat, but gotta fly now.

what a momentous anniversary of 120 years!!!! they were true pioneers!

Agreed!! 21 degrees here right now and that fire looks sooooo good!

Hope you told her we said “Happy Birthday!”
Well, we would have, you know, if we’d only known.
I’ll tell her. Our son was born on December 1st ~ so this gets to be an expensive and really busy time of year.
It’s the birthday of a old friend of mine, too.
Not quite that far back… I met him in ’85 or ’86.

Today’s FTD and the animation that it comes from are in my favorite file! So. Well. Done.
