Maybe it’s real!

Related to the Basselopes, like Rosebud, from Bloom County.

Rosebud is the very last Basselope, as far as anyone knows.

But this one might be a Bassibou, instead. Nobody has said they’re all extinct!

(“Reindeer” is actually another name for caribou, and I think Bassareindeer is quite a mouthful.)

But i mean, just take a look. Big brown eyes, basset hound markings, antlers…

What’s not real about that? And that beautiful um… fur… ok, maybe a little fake looking… and those totally natural … er.. little lights?

Well, I’m going to believe it anyway.
Hmphff…

That fur would be called velvet and it suggests that the photo was taken in late spring.

Mr. Booth again, I presume. It’s a wonder he could turn out more than one of these per year.

He was actually incredibly prolific.

I can’t imagine, either, how quickly he did these…

But he turned out book and magazine illustrations, advertising images, and just about every type of commercial artwork, year after year, and was one of the most popular illustrators of his time.

Norman Rockwell called him the best.

Just looking at a list of his works is mind boggling.

Most of them you might not use much… But if you can just remember two they’re very useful.

Quotation marks really help you search for a phrase, sometimes not exactly but at least most of the words in it, and not go off on do many tangents.

….

And think of the hyphen as a minus sign…

It eliminates a word from your search.

It has to touch the beginning of the word.

For instance you search for, say, lemon… Just making something up…

You want to know about tree, but you happen to live near a Lemon Tree Restaurant…

Putting -restaurant on your search gets rid of a page of useless hits on the restaurant.

It won’t eliminate the ones that don’t use that specific word, though..

You might have to do it again after you see the results:

Lemon -restaurant -grill

Or whatever, but it’s helpful.

WHAT is that waitress on‽ ‽ ‽

Re: yesterday and the “symbol” face you saw on GoComics.
It’s made through the use of coding, or meticulous copying of the appropriate symbols from multiple places on the ‘net (Tigressy’s link will let you copy others’ contributions).
As an example, close up the code below and type or paste it into a comment box…

& # 8 7 2 8 ;

…and you will end up with this      ∘

WordPress being WordPress does not allow the simpler “alt” coding method directly (I use “Word” documents to put in the symbol I want using that method / it posts as the symbol in a comment box).

P.S.
Thanks for the above.

I recognized this one as a kid, but probably only cos I’ve seen this picture.

Doesn’t look a whole lot like the present day adult, but the impish grin is related.

He still looked a bit like this back in the 60s, too… But I don’t think I’d have recognized the kid without a hint, even then.

To me, the adult is instantly recognizable.

I remember them quite young.

Not that young, like the kid picture… but right around the end of their teens.

I never saw them in person, but in magazines and on TV, either performing or in the news.

Brash, strutting… tight pants and chests out (which really hasn’t changed but it looks different at 19.)

I’m more shocked by their appearance today.

Somehow, a kibble omelet does not sound appetizing right now. I am only slightly surprised that the server needs to ask whose it is. (Maybe she’s just trying to be polite.)

First of all, I think the burger on the right is cooked to medium in the left hand panel, and well-done in the right hand panel.

Now…. who ordered the puzzle solution?

And who wanted the smartass comment on the side?

I’m sorry… I think it all comes on the same plate. Is that ok?

You may have to chew on it a bit, though in all fairness, I’ve definitely served some that were tougher, and this one’s pretty tasty.

When you’re ready….

I called the hospital and asked the operator whether mail is forwarded to where a patient was transferred to or to the patient’s permanent residence. She didn’t know for sure, and said I should call/ask the patient’s new location, which I tried, and maybe this being Saturday, I only got recordings. The number is on the image Alex posted if someone wants to try again Monday.

Today’s Songs:
1. ‘Axel F (HQ),’ 2. ‘Baby Blue,’ 3. ‘Baby Elephant Walk,’ and 4. ‘Barracuda,’and the ‘Cheap Thrills Cuisine’ recipe 5. ‘Chicken Leg Cacciatore.’
1. I’ve posted this before. The frog has a bit dangling that (having picked up many a frog as a kid) I know doesn’t belong there (I’ll post another of ‘Crazy Frog’s’ videos later).
2. Pete Ham (vocalist and lead composer of ‘Badfinger’ wrote the song for Dixie Armstrong a girl who caught his eye during the band’s last U.S. tour. They dated briefly as she accompanied then band, but Ham broke it off. Sadly Ham committed suicide at the age of 27; even more sadly his suicide led to the suicide of the band’s bassist, Terry Evans, in 1983.
3. I just found out the Hal David wrote lyrics for this that were not used in the movie it was composed for, Hatari!, (see below / there will now also be a list three, as I thought that ‘A Swingin’ Safari’ was simply ‘Swingin’ Safari’)
4. Another favourite by ‘Heart’.
5. Again, the recipe I posted for ‘Chicken Cacciatora’ back in the ‘Ballard Street’ days differs by quite a bit (see recipe below spoiler box).

Lyrics to: “Baby Elephant Walk”

Make believe you’re in a jungle movie
Watch the baby elephants go by
The beat is groovy
It’s a brand new dance you ought to try
Come to the jungle and see the animal attraction
Baby elephants in action walk

See the big baboon beat on the bongo
As the baby elephants advance
Down in the Congo
All the swinging monkeys do this dance
Come to the jungle and see the animal attraction
Baby elephants in action walk

If you plan on joining a safari
Don’t get dressed for going on a cruise
The thing to carry is an extra pair of dancing shoes
Come to the jungle and see the animal attraction
Baby elephants in action walk

Chicken Cacciatora
SPEZZATINO DI POLLO ALLA CACCIATORA

3 ½ pound broiler-fryer, cut into serving pieces
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup olive oil
1 small onion chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 carrot, chopped
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
1 bay leaf, crushed
3 cups canned Italian tomatoes
Pepper
3 anchovies, mashed
1 cup Chianti wine

Dredge chicken in flour and brown in olive oil in a skillet.
Remove the chicken and in the remaining oil sauté onion,
garlic, carrot, parsley, and
bay leaf until the onion is
golden. Strain the tomatoes and add the tomato pulp to
the skillet. Add pepper and anchovies. Bring the sauce
to a boil. Add the chicken and Chianti and simmer for 45
minutes, or until the chicken is tender. SERVES 4.

Note from me:
“Cacciatora” means hunter style.

Grrr. One of those days today. Making cookies and my cookie press broke so just round red and green instead of shaped.

Cox, in its infinite wisdom, decided my equipment was “too old” and needed to “upgrade” (aka pay more). Got behind all the TVs, unhooked all the mini boxes and took them in to be exchanged for new. Also had to get a new modem/router. Ran some errands and came home. Planned to drop in the laundry, hook up the modem and TV I use most and then put glaze on the cookies so Cookie (the dog) could come in. Got the router all set, internet fine. Tried the TV, no luck. Called Cox for help and on the phone for over 2 hours trying to get things working. Got 1 TV going (the one I watch the least). Other 2 nothing after multiple tries.

Said they could send out a tech on Monday (I have to work) and could be $100. For once I told them NO. They could come after work and it would be no charge or I would return all the equipment and cancel everything. Now I’m on a cancellation/urgent list for tomorrow afternoon. If that won’t work between 5-7 pm Monday and no charge. I’m usually not that assertive, but after everything else I was fed up. Finished everything after 6 pm (started at 3). Cookie not a happy camper that she couldn’t come in, but is now taking her pre-bedtime nap.

On 11/21 car failed inspection (Happy Birthday to me) and they had to order 2 tail lights. With holidays and all, didn’t get here until Wednesday. Took the car in and 1 shuttle driver didn’t show up. Other was on a run. Waited for almost an hour (usually 10 minutes) and then his GPS sent him to the wrong place after I told him 3 times NORFOLK. After all that, they only fixed one light as the other was the wrong part. Have to take it again next week and until then have a rejection sticker. They wrote off the labor on the one they did fix and are giving me a loaner when I go back.

Thanks for letting me vent!

Sounds like a day that was long in every sense of the word, Good for you. Sometimes businesses have to be reminded who is paying who.
And thanks for reminding me about car inspection. Mine’s due this month.
