The Pacific Northwest Ballet ended its use of the well loved, but unfortunately racist sets and costumes by Maurice Sendak. I haven’t been to the new one yet.
The full human version, renamed “Nutcracker” for some reason, is at the picture link.
It may be a new site, but as always click through the clutter and go full screen.
I skipped through to various parts, and all I saw were costumes, “somebodies somewheres somewhens” wanted to be offended.
Those kinds of idiots have already done too much damage.
Think of what they would do to Shakespeare, Swift, Chandler, Hammett, Miller, Salinger (still don’t like his famous novella, but I’m not going to try to stop others from doing so), St. Vincent Millay, and I’ll throw in Freud for the heck of it… etc. etc. etc… all of whom wrote stuff that was considered controversial, if they were given the chance.
I suppose I could make up some crazy story, Dennis, but honestly, I was just flipping through the pages of Billboard’s Top Pop Singles (1955-1999) and came across it and decided that since I hadn’t heard it in a while, I’d post it tonight.
Hard to believe that it’s been more than fifty years since the album itself was released (All Things Must Pass, released November 27, 1970 :: My Sweet Lord released just a few days earlier). Where, oh where, has the time gone…? It seems like only yesterday…
Linus and Lucy’s theme isn’t just for the holidays.
Vince Guaraldi was a Jazz great before he was asked to composite music for Great Pumpkin.
In my (very) humble opinion, its not only one of the best Jazz pieces ever, its one of the best compositions of all time. It’s that perfect. At least for me. 🙂
And, for me as well. If I remember correctly, this is the 2nd time I’ve posted this music (but, not the same video) in as many weeks! I just realized it!
National Research Council Sunrise / Sunset times for me and my fellow denizens.
The city is wide enough, that my GPS will sometimes show sunrise as a minute later on the west side (I’m presuming due to rounding because with a fine enough clock moving any distance would change it / and that’s in any direction / isn’t living on an oblate spheroid fun?).
Officially we get whole a 7 hours and 54 minutes of sunlight today.
By contrast, Yellowknife gets only 4 hours and 57 minutes, and Inuvik (in-ooo-vic), being above the arctic circle, gets no hours, minutes, or seconds (or split seconds). And having been there, all you get is a lightening of the horizon around noon.
Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobie…
But Donaudampfschifffahrtsgesellschaftskapitän is even longer – the triple f or a double doesn’t make much of a difference.

And here, translated from the German, is the story that started it all. LINK

I love the Stel version much better!!

Just curious, Stel. What brings Dylan’s electric performance to mind in the context of Nutcrackers?

Had ya wonderin’, huh?
Very Pythonesk.
Indeed it is. I wonder if Terry Jones had anything to do with it.
Up too late or no coffee yet? 🙂

A little from column A, and a little from column B.
It’s great to get a peek into how these animations are actually made.
I should have guessed that a giant hand was involved.

This is the 50th anniversary video of George Harrison’s album, ‘All Things Must Pass’, recently posted on 12/15. There are many recognizable faces.
(The credits at the end list who appeared in the video…..also, the list is shown in the “Show More” section on YouTube)

The Nutbiscuit is still a Christmas favorite! They don’t write music like that anymore.
Thanks for all the videos, Stel.
I had fun choosing everything. I’m so glad you’re enjoying it, ML !!
For the next week, half of our family will descend on us! Should be a blast!

Glad you don’t have to travel to see them. Will they bring kielbasa?
Glad we don’t have to travel, also! We got 6 inches of snow yesterday.
Maybe they’ll bring some kielbasa as a surprise.
And a joyous time to you and yours!
Thanks, Alexi! They all fly in this afternoon!
Bet their arms will be tired! Happy Christmas, Rita and Mountain Man!
