I don’t imagine she’s evil. I think she is trying to get the point across that: “Hey, if I don’t know you really well, and at least accept that you are part of the family, you had best stay away from my babies.”
By your own description you live in an older neighbourhood, but I do not believe it is so old that you do not have category 5 telephone wiring (as it may still be called).
Anecdotally:
As I said, my own DSL service came through 40 year–old copper telephone wires up until Monday of this week; the service was at least as fast as I am now getting from the supposedly superior fibre-optic line service.
If your wiring is category 5, the link below will provide the academic backing to why I believe your ISP is deliberately not giving you the speed they could (movie line: “Greed is good.”).

As of Tuesday I’m in the general group able to get my booster (third) shot. I kept catching the tag end of the news casts stating it and didn’t get it confirmed until today. I’m walking in to the pharmacy tomorrow at its 10:00 A.M. opening.
I’m one of the rare exceptions who admit whenever they’re wrong – and sometimes shut up even when they’re right for peace’s sake.
Fortunately, the latter is not necessary with my husband.
