I tried! Search was inconclusive … but IMHO the needle on the Fake-ometer swings towards “Enhanced”, possibly all the way to “AI.”

This image is posted to numerous Facebook groups, along with Instagram and other sites.

Most commenters are oohing and aahing… But there’s usually at least one calling it AI.

Another clue, to me, is that almost every post of it is headlined or captioned in the same exact words “One of the most beautiful Bald Eagle images ever shot!” … as though it were generated along with the picture.

Females eagles are larger and heavier than males.

I wanted to know whether there was any reason one would have a fluffier head but haven’t found that yet.

The “halo” around images is a tell-tale of poor montages dating back before the Photoshop era…

Yup.

By this time (ca 1970-73) it almost has to be Hollywood Squares if #6 is in it (:

How do those paper clips work?

The same way that the muppet who programmed the AI to produce the image thinks they do.

Ain’t no way!

I’ve owned old versions of most of these, and even though they were not as old as these, they didn’t look like the new ones.

Paper clips… never that old but even Victorian ones have a more delicate look.

Safety pins, unless there were many other kinds from what I had, totally different.

The bobby pins looked almost the same by the 1920s, but mine had bigger rubber tips.

Editing to say that when I posted this, I said I didn’t believe Bic had that same clear plastic in the 50s, cos the 50s ball points I’ve had were bigger and looked more like fountain pens.

But Wikipedia says they were clear, even then, and had hexagonal bodies like pencils, so all I can say is maybe they did look the same. I never saw them till much later.

(pst) Take a close look at the paperclips…

The fact that the possibly somewhat older or possibly just different shaped one has a little point, which of course I noticed, has nothing to do with what I said, which was that my Victorian ones were more delicate.

They were thinner wire, with somehow wider curves, which made them look a bit graceful, and unlike either of the ones in this photo.

I wish I still had some to take a photo… maybe I do, somewhere

But back in the 1970s, I bought some office supplies from an auctioneer… He was only interested in the ca 1900 desks and file cabinets.

I got a dozen empty ink bottles, and a tiny case each of little boxes of paper clips and paper fasteners, the kind with a brass button and two flat legs you bend back, and I sold them in my shop.

Also some tiny boxes of points for wooden pens, the kind you dip in the ink.

It’s posted in a lot of respectable places…

Including a Condé Nast Traveler collection of vintage photos of Paris.

Here’s their caption:

“The Venice glass-making pavilion sits at the foot of the Eiffel Tower during the World Fair of 1889.”
The tower was built for that fair.
Photos elsewhere of other pavillions show a similar level of attendance.

Bernard Matthews (Turkey producer) produced and sold a ‘Turkey Breast Joint’ (More like a rolled up thing) here in the UK that contained turkey and pork. The pork is there to help prevent it drying out when roasted, plus it helped keep the joint together.

Some uproar about this on blogs, Facebook, etc… people outraged by the “scam”, or just by the notion of a 100% pork product being sold as turkey.

Two things: First, people don’t know how to read labels.

It doesn’t say made of 100% pork, it says made using 100% Australian pork… Which only means it has pork in it, and it’s reassuring you that all that pork is Australian, not imported.

You can’t tell from this wording, without seeing the ingredients, whether it’s mostly pork or mostly turkey.

“Made using something” is tricky wording that some manufacturers use to try to fool you. In other cases it might contain 3% of something they want you to think it’s made of.

But second, in this case… this is from Reuters, a respectable news source:

“The producer, Australia-based Harris Farm Markets, which has grocery store locations across Sydney, New South Wales, and Queensland, told Reuters that the incident happened in 2022 and was “a labelling error by our supplier”.

No pork at all

Louis-Phillipe Mouchy, 1781.

It was… I can’t say a fad, because of the time, artistry and skill required.

You had to be an absolute master of marble sculpture… but let’s say it was a point of pride amongst some late 18th century Italian and French sculptors, to be able to show off this sort of work.

There are several famous pieces that look like the figures are wearing delicate lace or draped in translucent veils…

I spent hours looking at them when I first discovered art on the internet…. not that I remember the names.

I still had to look this one up.

Heard to tell if the dimensions fit together by just eyeballing them

But

I think…
C is the only one that any sense to me.

Make one large triangle out of the two smaller ones, hoping it’s the same size as the large one already there, and lay it flat side up, point down, adjoining the large one.

There’s no place to put the small square in A or B…. and D might make a parallelogram, but a longer, thinner one, if the sides fit, but I don’t think they do.

I recognize this episode. It was on showtime network while i was at Cardio Rehab a few weeks ago. It starts where Andy comes back to town after a meeting. He meets Barney outside the Sheriff’s office and remarks how well Barney did while he was gone, thinking nothing happened. When he enters the office, Andy sees that Barney arrested the entire town for disturbing the peace in separate incidences. While the show obviously was from a straight on angle, this is from above probably for staging purposes.
