Oops

His traveling companion was meant to have been discreetly removed from the picture.

Sorry a tiny touch remained visible.

Whatever his name is, I don’t think you should mess with this guy.

I think it’s an art deco version of Chief Pontiac.

I’m reminded of something similar on my Grandpa’s old Pontiac. I think it was a ’49.

She actually wanted to marry him.

He was her father’s law partner, and a family friend, who knew her from infancy, bought her gifts as a child, and helped support her and her mother when her father died.

She got engaged as a college student but told her mother she’d rather have an older husband.

They got along well, and had 5 children.

She was very well liked by the public… but i wonder what people would think today.

She dropped out of college, my alma mater, to marry him. One of the buildings was named for her. Originally the library, in my day it was the language building.

As is said by a growing number of people today, love is love. 🙂
I like the saying. Sort and to the point.

I’m not sure it was romantic love, in the sense that we mean today… and sometimes back then as well.

Men were supposed to take care of their wives.
Women were possessions and had almost no rights…

Anything they owned at marriage or acquired afterwards belonged to their husbands, including their children.

Marrying a young man was therefore risky.

He could fail to make a good living, run off with her money, take the children, or abandon them.

….

She totally appreciated Cleveland.

She may have been romantically attracted, maybe not.

In any case, he’d been kind to her all her life and made her feel comfortable and secure.

That’s what she wanted in a husband.

In those days that often passed for married love, and in some ways could even become thought of as romantic.

It was a real breakthrough for Andre the Woodsman…

I think it opened new worlds for him.

What with the delivery time from here to there, I didn’t get a birthday card off to StelBel.
My Christmas card will be in the mail today.

But I do hope she has as happy a birthday as she can have given her circumstances.

My small gifts arrived on Monday somewhere there – ordered Sunday via amazon prime; I’ve got an extended free trial on amazon.com – free and astonishingly fast delivery. And successful this time. 🙂

For a moment I almost couldn’t resist circling the missing exclamation point and the absent part of Cleo’s leash in the bottom panel.

But the little red stars, the sign add-on, and all the bandages must make more than nine differences.

That’s a picture of a nice chocolate cake.
I prefer that to the overly sweet Sacher-Torte with apricot jam.

Remember “Beverly Hills Cop”?
Boy; did Eddie Murphy age well!
He’s my vintage; and I’ve just watched “Candy Cane Lane” (2023).
Nice, heartwarming movie. But not boring.
