There are at least four versions of Sam Spade.
Dashiell Hammett’s, from his 1930 novel, the Ricardo Cortez version as directed by Roy Del Ruth in 1931, Humphrey Bogart’s version as directed by John Huston in 1941, and the radio show version played first by Howard Duff and later by Steve Dunne from scripts written by scriptwriter Bob Tallman (for which he received an Edgar Award for Best Radio Drama) from 1946-1951. The Hammett and Bogart versions are hard boiled, of course, but the Cortez/Duff/Dunne versions are a little more light hearted.
I managed to find the first filming by Cortez and Del Ruth online; it’s at this LINK. This link unlike most, is really easy to use, click on it and you’re there.
The opening panorama shot of San Francisco is eye opening.
I tried to enlarge this poster (up above), but it didn’t come out as clear as I had hoped it would. If it’s glittered, it’s a GIF. Every time an image is glittered, the site shrinks it. I had found another site that would resize it back to its original size, but that site no longer is working. So, tonight I found yet another site, but the results were less than satisfying.
Anyway, here is the smaller version of the poster….a bit clearer but too small for my liking. I’ll continue to search the internet (but, not tonight! It’s late and I’ve already spent way too long on this). In this day and age, there’s got to be something better.
Kind of you to say, PC ! Nighthawks and I always wonder if the features are large enough and clear enough for everyone to see alright. Sometimes the programs just don’t want to cooperate.

I found the site easy to use (simple drag and drop with clear option boxes below once you’ve done that).
I left it as a U.R.L. for easy copying and storing, if you decide you want to.
I’d like to say I had that intention….I really would! But, truth be told, I happened to be looking through a bunch of 80’s hits, and the 3 that I chose were very popular in Spain when I lived there back in ’87-’88. They brought back so many memories….

with those same human actors and Stel’s lovely basset statuette, in Cleo Clifford’s likeness.

You’d think I’d be sick of it…. but it’s so good, I still see it whenever I can…

Baked Alaska
Why don’t we ever see baked Minnesota, say, or Kansas?
Does baked Florida taste more steamed than baked California?
(I know some people think California is only half-baked, but it’s not. In fact some parts are over- baked, but it just adds extra texture.)
Should we be trying baked Louisiana, or Tennessee, or Arizona?
Or is Alaska the only state that tastes good?
The fact that it’s frozen makes it more interesting, I know.

I’m not fooled. When you cut Alaska into cross sections, it does not look like that.
But it’s so hard to keep a baked Florida frozen. Much easier in Alaska where the oven stays frozen throughout the cooking…

I tend to last only eight to ten days myself.
I get 2 days, maybe a 3rd day if I’m lucky, depending on the time of day when I initially signed in…
I don’t feel so bad then. It is just irritating.
I have to log back in almost every day! It’s crazy.
