If you remember any of my ravings, you might remember that one of my favourite CBC radio shows is “Under The Influence” hosted by Terry O’Reilly.
This week’s episode is dedicated to the Super Bowl. The show’s synopsis appears below.
“This week, we dive into the Super Bowl. The broadcast not only attracts the biggest viewing audience of the year, it is one of the biggest marketing machines. It affects beer companies and supermarkets and even record sales of the halftime performers. And we’ll also revisit some of the most outrageous Super Bowl moments.”
What the above doesn’t tell you is the opening is a detailed history of the Super Bowl trophy, and its construction (it involves a store someone wanted breakfast at).
The rest of the show does indeed do what the synopsis promises.
If you or, someone you know, is at all interested in the game this is well worth the 27 minutes and 26 seconds.
Enjoy ! ! ! 🏈 🏈 Go, Bengals!
Gave me a good giggle after the trouble my computer gave me today – both “telegram” and “discord” refused to open after a minor update. Good thing I’ve got my accounts on smartphones, too; uninstalling and re-installing on my laptop (aka main computer) plus the access data from my phones finally did the trick.
Buster Keaton
What is he “riding”?
His legs are looped over the handlebars… is that the actual seat slanted behind him?
An interesting contraption…
while I’m pretty sure that’s filmed scenery rolling past.
Pretty good special affects for so early in film history!
One of the funnier film clips you will see in your life. 😄
The full picture is available at the usual site (see “Tommy”).
Fun to see ‘the rest of the story’.

Fontella Bass, oh yes!
I mean, Oh Yass!
I love this one!
Another amazing animation…
This one is cool!
Well… cool for us, anyway… there’s a guy … er… there was…. one guy in the strip who might not agree.
But what’s one vote?
…
It’s literal cliffhanger … the only way it could be more of a cliffhanger would be if the hapless human’s name were “Cliff.”
Maybe it is… I don’t see any of our handsome heroes stopping to ask his name,,, or to do anything actually useful.
…
Meanwhile… we have a plethora… practically a panoply…. that is.. the largest part of the pantheon….
of Cleo and Co. Production’s basset superheroes.
Suave, confidant…. unflinching (so they claim) in the face of danger…
All SO ready to save you that they’ll fight for the privilege.
….
Ok, let’s consider…. which one should you trust…. if you’re hanging off that cliff-side tree?
Well, the success rate in this tale doesn’t look particularly good for any of them.
But perhaps individually… unencumbered by competition from the others?
…
Well… BatBasset has his Basset web, for scaling tall buildings.
Can he carry your weight, too…dunno.
Can he fly? NO.
…
Robin Hound can swing on a vine… even carrying another dog.
A human? Dunno.
Does he carry a vine? No.
Can he fly? NO.
…
The Lone Basset… has a gun.
Will that help? No.
Can he swing from a rope? Dunno…. but he could lasso you.
If he had a rope.
And again… no flight.
…
Perro… hmm…
Good at swordplay.
Can he fight your way off the cliff with a sword?
Um… no… and again… no power of flight.
…
Well… when I’m clinging to a tree on the side of a cliff….
I want the BEST basset for the job….
I want a basset superhero who can FLY….
strong enough to carry me to safety….
That _would be … um… SuperBasset.
So where were YOU, SuperBasset?
Sigh….
Forgot to thank Nighthawks and StelBel for NOT showing us the foot of the cliff….
Thank you!
Maybe SuperBasset did come to the rescue.
I like to think so!
Or this:
You are so funny! Thanks for all of that.
What she said. 😀
I’ll just take whoever has a rope.
BTW, BatBasset CAN fly; that’s how he got there. I’d gladly take that rope ladder dangling from his helo.
His helicopter can fly, but it sure looks like he, himself, was lowered from it on that ladder while it hovered in mid-air.
The ladder which, yeah, he should have lowered to the guy hanging off the cliff-side, instead of coming down himself.

Pulse-pounding excitement! Thrills and chills! Heart-stopping adventure! High drama! And that’s just the comments!
This has got to be one of the funniest strips, EVER!!!
I had tears (yes, TEARS) from laughing so hard. Thanks Nighthawks and Stel for a fun rescue!
peppermint patty
Love peppermint patties….and I like Peppermint Patty, too.
What happened to my comment?
Above the peppermint patty post?
…peppermint patty post…
Say that 3 times real fast. 🙂
…and then she will appear with her skates on on the hardwood floor without the roller.
To.
Hooray!
Wonderful animation! Lots of action in this one.
