“In 1979, Heinz Ketchup made a commercial that featured Carly Simon’s hit ‘Anticipation’. The Taste that’s worth the wait. Carly sold the license to Heinz for $50,000 so they could use her song.”
…comes from THIS WEBSITE. The website’s opening page is a bit startling, but just scroll down and the article will appear.
The commercial is there (immediately after the quote / so are two versions of “Antcipation” including StelBel’s posted version / the lyrics are beneath that).
The article is much, much more than that though.
It strikes me as a well researched bit of biography, and touches on Carly Simon’s, now age 76, interactions with other well known people throughout her life; Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese, James Thurber, Cat Stevens, Sean Connery (who it is said offered a threesome to Carly and her sister)…etc. etc. etc. … there’s even a direct family scandal mentioned.
For the most part.It really depends on who and where you were….but I would daresay that MOST folks inhabiting planet earth that experienced it didn’t think the 1930s were all that wonderful.
A true classic from the glorious golden age of Hollywood, a time when they still thought it necessary to say “Hollywood California“, as if there could be another.
…
It’s not a complicated plot… I think it was mostly written as a vehicle for the studio to showcase all the talent and star power it could muster…
from it’s own kennel of canine stars to any it could borrow…
in a series of intertwined small plots and vignettes designed to highlight their best features.
A live-action edition of “Photoplay” for an audience that didn’t have the gossipy likes of TMZ, or Buzzfeed.
…
Garbone… her haughty beauty a cover for shyness… growls her most famous line, “I vant to be alone”…
which most dogs and people still think she barked in real life.
…
BTW, she had a heavy Swedish canine accent, which the director was hoping would sound Russian to the rather unsophisticated 1930’s public.
Little did he know that the 2022 public probably still wouldn’t notice…. accustomed as we are to remarkable basset actors playing any breed, nationality, or sometimes even gender, that they can pretend.
…
John Burybone showed off the famous profile … and acting chops…
which, by the way, he passed on to his pup….
and thus to his famous grandpuppy, “Doo” (Doodles) Burybone…
whose current career started as a very young puppy actress in “BT, the Basset Terrestrial.”
…
There’s a lot more doggy drama, many stories, and much more to say, if I only had all night.
(Wait… are some of you clapping because I don’t? (Hmphff.)
…
A much better film, BTW, than its flashy human imitation… and much prettier poster.
Love the fonts, Stel…
And on this poster, as in the film, the pouty yet beautiful Joan Crawdog seems to know instinctively that she’s stealing the show.

“Corn is really a grass, but an unusual one. It belongs to the group of six true grains, or cereals, that includes wheat, barley, oats, rice, and rye. The corn plant usu- ally grows 3 to 10 feet tall and has many short ear shoots, or branches. But the giant corn of the Jala Valley in Mexico has ears 3 feet long. Its strong stalks can be used to make fences.

Loved the tour of ‘Old Hollywood’. It’s nice to see all the places we dated at in their early years. We saw Star Wars at Graumans.
Yes, always loved driving through Hollywood and I recognize some of those buildings. We went to Graumans Chinese Theater a few times.

I hate that Heinz once used this song, years ago, for a ketchup commercial…
…
Picture a close-up of the neck of an open bottle, held upside down while you hear…
“An… tic…i….pa… tion….♬♪ …… is making me wait ♫ ♪…”
…
The point was supposed to be that Heinz was so thick it was slow to pour…
but now I can’t even hear this without picturing a big red blob of ketchup about to fall.

That’s an all-time favorite of mine!♥

I tried, Stel… I really did.
I hereby unabashedly state that I like “Stairway To Heaven;” and if others can’t get their bustles out of the hedgerow, that’s their problem. —
Me too
(comment from YouTube: “I love how baby sloths always sound like they’re trying to open a pickle jar.”)
BUNNY!
Half the time they sound like baby goats.
But which are they?
(Full title: “Robbers and Cops” / don’t go YouTube, or you’ll likely be interrupted by a commercial)
Brass players? Definitely the robbers.
It was thinkin Mission Impossible.
Nanci Griffith – Late Night Grande Hotel
Great to see you here!
Thanks, I do look in every day (And normally fail miserably on the “Spot the difference” on Saturdays!), but as you notice I don’t comment very often.
Well, do join in any time!
Glad you stop by.
I recognize the scene, but I have to say, you will never find me so affectionately addressing my slipper as this ballerina.
I would admire her flexibility more if she did that with the shoe still on her foot.
The Wild and Wonderful Thirties? In the heart of the Great Depression? More like the Starving and Miserable Thirties.

Wow!
Grand Basset Hotel!
Beautiful, Stel!

What do you think I’m binge-watching right now?

I spent 20 odd minutes on the first episode of season 1.
I will not be spending any more time on the series.
It is not my cup of tea.
Let me guess – you don’t like “Lucifer”, either?
Or spoofs per se?

Thanks. My wife (to-be at the time) loved the Kringle there. As for me, if it’s not chocolate – meh. I might use your link and order her some.
