The artist is obviously using a pseudonym; on a quick search, I found no source I consider reliable to relate it to real life.

I searched Azaghai, named in the title of the picture.

He was indeed from Tolkien but before the LOTR era.

A dwarf king from the Silmarillion… before Smaug…

He stabbed, and drove away, but was himself mortally wounded by, the dragon Glaurung.

This must represent that battle.

Wow, there are amazing amounts of stuff written about everybody and everything mentioned in Tolkien’s work.

I get the feeling some people devote their whole lives to it.

“The Heel And Toe Kid”
“Racing drivers are born — then
made!” says one of Britain’s top
racing experts. This is the thrilling story of the search for these drivers
and of the tough training that makes them great.

As far as I can tell Jack Mason is entirely fictional (and I strongly doubt the watch brand Jack Mason designed in Texas and made in China would use a British race car driver’s name, fictional or otherwise).
I can’t find an attribution of the quote anywhere else on the ‘net either; I suspect it was made up.

What a great expression on the dog’s face.

So proud of “his” lamb.

“Wasn’t I a good boy, human?”

I can’t say I ever identified with Dobie Gillis, but I watched regularly.

I cannot find anything at all on Gayle Polayes or Joan Chandler (they were not part of the Dobie Gillis cast).
This cover is from 1959.

He’s 25 years old, just beginning his run as teenage Dobie.

He played Dobie till he was nearly 30, and after that, was dismayed to find himself still typecast as a teenager.

He played teenage roles in beach party movies into his mid thirties.

World’s oldest teenager.

….

I still remember watching a TV variety show, where the host… I think it was Dick Clark, but I’m not sure… sat with another guest, Bobby Darin, and as the “adults”, they talked about the “teenagers” on the show that night, including Dwayne Hickman.

I was 16 or 17, and I already knew that Darin was two years younger than Hickman, and both were in their late 20’s.

Cleo’s peeing posture is unusual for a female or male dog.

Who would name a band “The Monotones”?

But a great song, nonetheless.

My exact thought.

Maybe they were thinking of mono records, rather than bad singing…

But even then, probably “Stereotones” would have been a little better.

The      ALLMUSIC     site’s article on the history of “The Monotones” states they took over the name from another group using that name which was breaking up (it doesn’t really answer your question, but the history is interesting).

Beautifully done, Nighthawks!

I’m not a big fan of violence in movies, but had to see the first In this series.

It was a good film, a bit bloody for my taste, so I didn’t see the sequels, even though parts of the first one are etched in my memory.

I took it almost personally when nice-doggie Sonny turned violent, professional, Mafia don.

The human version is remarkably faithful to Nighthawks’ basset original.

If you’d like to see them try to recreate this scene with human actors… here it is. Remember, they’re only people, so it won’t be quite as good.

Now you can make one.

KATE AITKEN’S COOK BOOK

“Fresh Cherry Pie”

Temperature: 450° F. Time 15 minutes    350° F. Time 25 minutes
Plain Pastry (recipe below)
2 tablespoons flour
3/4 cup white sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
4 cups fresh cherries, pitted
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 drops almond flavouring
1 tablespoon margarine or butter (use butter)
Line 9″ pastry pan with plain pastry.
Mix together flour, sugar and salt.
Sprinkle 1/4 of mixture on uncooked bottom crust; add cherries; add remainder of sugar
mixture; sprinkle with lemon juice and almond flavouring; dot with margarine or butter.
Adjust top crust.
Bake in hot oven 450° F. for 15 minutes; reduce heat to 350° F.; continue baking until
cherries are tender. Serves 6.

Plain Pastry (All –Purpose Flour) Two-Crust 9-inch Pie
2 1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour 3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup shortening (lard or vegetable)
Cold water, approximately 5 tablespoons (about 1/3 cup)
Sift flour before measuring; re-sift with salt.
Cut in shortening coarsely; particles of shortening should be pea-sized.
This allows for flakiness in baking.
Sprinkle with enough cold water to bind batter.
Mix lightly with knife; turn on floured board; knead lightly; shape into round; wrap in
waxed paper; chill slightly before rolling.

Notes from me:

Go with 1/3 cup of water poured in a circle around the bowl. Stir it in with a knife. For rolling break the dough in half (you’ll have lots left over) Heavily flour the rolling surface, and sprinkle a bit of flour on top of the flattened dough to keep the rolling pin from sticking. Roll out the crusts. Don’t forget to slash the top crust with a knife or prick it with a fork so the cooking steam can vent. The remaining dough can be frozen or made into tarts.

These actually sound good.
I’d use large eggs and beat at the slowest speed you can in the egg and sugar step (from the time, it’s probable a change in texture will occur, use a spatula to keep everything together / if no texture change occurs, make sure the mixture is smooth / you can’t overbeat this).
To get 12 tablespoons of the Streusel topping you’re going to need 1/4 cup of walnuts too.
If you don’t like walnuts (or nuts in general) either increase the flour and brown sugar to 3/8 cup each or substitute in a 1/4 cup of a nut you do like.
Definitely preheat the oven (bake on second rack / top rack is first / test for doneness by putting a table knife in one of the muffins, they’re done if the knife comes out clean; it will be obvious if it’s not).
