I took a pic of the owl & shared it to Merlin. The blue took it off in another direction, but the fourth one down identified the Northern Saw-whet Owl. It gave info, range and sounds.

I found various weird captions for this, but they didn’t make sense.

Well… a lot were in transliterated Hindi, not translated, but Hindi words written in the Latin (or English) alphabet, which means I didn’t know whether they made sense or not.

Some in English were supposed to be funny…. like this is revenge on the senior class, or April Fools, or sentences including Hindi words I couldn’t follow… but it does seem to be a school in India.

If it’s a prank, which I have to assume, it looks cruel!

I think I’ve found the Turkish photographer’s site where this is from – there’s no explanation either. But a bunch of familiar-looking photos. 😉
Keep them coming!

I could tell by the look of it

that we were..
entering the Twilight Zone

And that face looked so familiar… but I just couldn’t pull it from the depths of my brain…

till

Google told me…
it’s a baby-faced Dennis Hopper, about 26 years old.
In 6 years he’ll be co-starring in Easy Rider, looking so different.

Shown here….

With Ludwig Donath, in the chilling 1963 episode, “He’s Alive”….
in which Hopper plays a Neo-Nazi who gets advice from the ghost of Adolf Hitler.

Kind of a first breakout for Hopper. Got him noticed.

I think we all recognize him, especially with all the caricatures of his roles. RIP, Robin, along with Mork, Popeye, Mrs. Doubtfire, and all the rest.

Until I had googled the quote, I never knew of it :: I am not a learned person.
The torment, the torture, within, without escape.
Totally heartbreaking.

According to several sites, this is Alfred Hitchcock serving tea to the MGM Lion, in 1957…. a publicity shot for North by Northwest, Hitchcock’s only MGM film.

Leo, was said to be the last of 7 live MGM lions.

Jacqueline Kennedy, kneeling at right, is about to take a picture of… L to R… brother in law Robert, his wife Ethel, and her husband, senator and future president John F. Kennedy, in May, 1954, about 8 months after their wedding.

Meanwhile, their picture is being taken by a photographer doing a photo spread about their lives.

Maybe cos you didn’t see as much of them, in Canada.

I recognized them all, though it’s not the most recognisable photo of Jackie. Context helped.

I still had to Google to find the date, and it also turned up the photo spread

I’ve been watching short videos from an American woman living in Wuhan, China, with her Chinese husband and their toddler son.

She often points out cultural differences, and one is that in China, and some other Asian countries, they believe that for babies and small children, getting wet, wearing wet clothes, stepping in puddles, even not being immediately changed out of a wet diaper, can make them very ill.

Her Chinese neighbors are a bit shocked that they let their son go barefoot in the grass at the park.

I don’t know, but it seems possible that this obviously protective Dad is influenced by the idea that getting wet might be more dangerous to his son than we think of it being here.

My Chinese/Swiss friends still believed in not celebrating the baby’s birth until their first birthday. Infant mortality was that big a concern to them…

Could be… In spite of the desert surroundings, Cairo’s position, on both the Mediterranean Coast and the Nile, helps to cause both dense fog, in some seasons, and chronic, dangerously heavy smog.

Or in this case, the worst tasting.

He must taste really awful, to provoke that reaction. But I guess the frogs just eat first, spit it out and look later.

Reminds me of Viceroy butterflies, which I was taught evolved to look like Monarchs, because Monarch butterflies are so bitter tasting that birds don’t eat them.

It would have been a more fitting story, except nowadays they say both butterflies evolved to look the same, because they’re both bad tasting, and that protects them both.

In any case, I guess looks mean nothing to a frog. Makes sense, cos they’re nothing to write home about either, yet male and female frogs are somehow attracted to each other.

“Hot Food” indeed – my money is on one of these guys: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombardierk%C3%A4fer

The German site yields more information than the English or Spanish ones.
I haven’t found a picture of this one – yet.

It looks more like a Tenebrionid to me, but the puff of smoke is certainly the defense that caused the reaction…

I found them! This one wasn’t very easy, at least, I didn’t think so.

A few things popped out, but the last few were stubborn.

However, I had extra time to do it, because this site was down for me from about 6:30 to nearly 8 pm PST. Okay, it may have come back a bit earlier, but it was down when I checked at 7:30 and up when I came back a bit before 8.

I just kept getting messages saying I was posting too many comments on a short time… But I wasn’t able to post any, never mind too many!

Anyhow… As I’ve said before, I don’t have a lot of colors available in the editing program I have on my tablet… which means there are several objects in each color…

but hopefully you can tell them all apart HERE

I’ve gotten that message for real, a few times, especially if I discover that I’ve left a comment unposted, and try to post it after submitting a different one.

Or try to add a quick reply to my own comment, like maybe to add a second picture, cos you can only include one.

It seems to take WP a minute or two to digest comments before it can take another bite.

But this time, of course, it wasn’t the actual problem.

Ooh! I used to have a teeny pair of jeans like that on a keychain!

Maybe not exactly the same… but close. I also had Levi style denim jacket and a black leather motorcycle one, all maybe 3″ high, and all from a Mexican booth at the county fair, in different years.

I used to tell people my little dog made them. I knew she didn’t… but I never realized it was really hemmingbirds!
