I’ve recently cut back on my GoComics reading because it was taking too much of my time. Coming here probably means I’ll have to cut GoComics even further. Oh well…
One thing I keep finding on this site — if you try something you think should work* and it doesn’t work first time, go away and try again later. So far second or third time’s been the charm.
My avatar is right, but not because of anything i knowingly did knowing I was doing it correctly, but rather I did it correctly without knowing what I was doing.
Another thing:
Supposedly you can log into WordPress and Gravitar using your WordPress account for both.
Gravitar recognizes that an account in my avatar’s name exists but insists the password is wrong;… umm…I just logged into my “CleoandCompany”. WordPress account?
I absolutely agree with your take on it! It’s like the site has to decide if you’re really serious or not. That’s what happened in my quest for an account and avatar.
StelBel was on the phone with me to show me the workaround for the avatar, but I didn’t realise you had to log in first.
I explained to her that I’d had no luck trying to subscribe, or log in, since the beginning.
A zillion attempts, plus another zillion emails from WordPress to two different user names with links to reset my password or confirm my membership…
And all I ever reached was a page saying “That password is incorrect” or “Your name (or your email address) is already in use.”
While we were talking, I tried again, and they sent me yet another reset password message…. and for NO reason I can think of… THAT one worked!
I even saw the workaround for myself… But at first we didn’t realise it was the same thing she was there to show me. It doesn’t matter…. I doubt I would have gotten there anyway, without a magic spell from the Evil Queen of Tampering.
Anyway… right now I seem to have my avatar, and I think I’m logged in…
But this box doesn’t show my name or any accoutrements, like the formatting box.
They like to toy with you… Like a cat with a mouse…
One minute they love you and give you everything…. Another minute… “Who are YOU?”

from what I can tell, even without an account, it remembers you when you come back
(it actually misses you) so you don’t have to retype email and stuff when you come back the next time, you can just comment away , as long as you don’t mine the avatar
If this thing gets going like the old days, we may be spending a lot of hours just enjoying the comments.
