One of the longest running strips ever… started well before WWI, it was ancient when I read it as a child, but my father loved it, and used to read it aloud to us.
McManus passed away in the 50’s, but other artists drew it till the beginning of this century, though I haven’t seen it since maybe the 70’s.
I looked for a copyright date on this one but couldn’t find it.
The cars I can make out look like the 1920’s…
And it’s old enough that the jokes can involve a character who doesn’t know what a “cop” is, and has never heard of Coney Island or hot dogs.
I’ve been waiting for a place this would fit.
Teresa posted this on Sunday, July 31, 2016 on “Frog Applause” it is a “LADIES HOME JOURNAL” quiz from January 1948.Very different times.
The F-22 has vectored thrust allowing it to maneuver in thinner air. It was still a reach. Some of the stills I saw show fighter clearly still below the balloon altitude when it shoots it down.
A few years ago the local bus system had a version of the literacy sign.
I once emptied a trash can and the guy I was working with eventually asked me what I’d done with his lunch (which he had “stored” in said can). Some of them do make sense in other ways too.
Overall, a fun read, thanks for posting.

“The Insatiable Mr. Toad” By: Heather Edwards
A great rendition of the wild and extravagant Mr. Toad.
Steel-toed shoe protectors, and eyepiece with interchangeable colored lens filters, and what look like canvas wings… hmmm.
One wonders what his next adventure will be, and whether he’ll drag the others along this time.
Looks like someone gave Mr. Toad a steampunk makeover.
Looks good!
I think Mr. Toad lived in the age that steampunk emulates, so he was born in steampunk mode.
I love his clothes and acoutrements in this painting.

Here it is being shot down.

The Word Find is in clear.
And the picture find is also solved.
As I’ve looked, I think the “Robin (Hound)” clue means just find “Robin” as I’ve done.
After the fiasco Saturday, I’m only going to say 5 and 3 are the identical pictures (barring the different numbers).
You beat me to it.
Of course, I was going to say that no two are identical, cos they each have a different big green number on top.
But playing along in the right spirit of the thing… yeah, it’s 2 and 5.
Claude must have a rrreeaaallllllyyy long and flexxibbille arm to push the button this time.
This sign was sent to me as part of another thread:
