Why am I totally thinking of Abe Vigoda’s character, Det. Fish, on the old Barney Miller sitcom?

Yeah, I was gonna ask too, what we’re supposed to find.

Or is it which two are identical, or which one doesn’t have a match?!

Yep, that’s the look of an entire subdivision built by one company at more or less the same (continuous, contiguous) time. They had a design that worked and they just stayed with it.

Ok, now you’ve got me searching.

I’ve seen plenty of cookie cutter developments… but it’s funny… in this one, I don’t see two houses just alike.

Maybe the 1st and 4th ones in the 2nd row down… But I think I see some differences.

It’s hard when they’re all covered in snow.

The very old residential neighborhood in Brooklyn where a couple of my dad’s aunts lived wasn’t anything like a modern development.

But there were miles and miles of absolutely identical brick houses.

Maybe they’re what’s called brownstones… I never thought to ask. But as I recall, they were small and separate, not tall rowhouses.

….

We got lost on a visit when I was 10.

The only way to tell the houses and the streets apart was by the street signs and the numbers on the doors.

I mean, sure, somebody had flower pots and somebody else had a tall tree… But if you didn’t know that you couldn’t recognize the houses.

That is great. I would throw money in a jar to hear that in person.

Hmmm, the dog looks photoshopped in to me. The lighter halo around the ear and muzzle where they interact with the guys shirt, plus if you pulled focus that tight to get the dog in sharp focus with the rest of the shot just out, then the back ear would be partly fuzzy at the edges.

Still a good image though.

Beautiful, with her just entering the beam of sunlight coming through an opening in the forest canopy. The light and shadow of this low, dusky sunlight is depicted so well, especially in the foreground.
This looks to me as if it must be a painting rather than a photo, because of the absence of detail in the forest background. Anybody?

If the field of focus is limited, in this case on the person, both the foreground and the background can be diffused.

I have done this before in some of my photographs.

For the length of her shadow, and the position of shadows around her, it’s too early for the light to be that red. I think it’s a photo that has been manipulated a bit.

Why isn’t it sunset, rather than early?

The light here can be very red at sunset.

Wonderful box!

And amazing that it’s intact.

As for the rocket…

It’s beautiful… even if at first I wondered why it had a film strip sticking out😁

To me that’s very sad, no matter which end of the political spectrum you inhabit.

Lyric from the song ‘Bomber’s Moon’ by Mike Harding: “Old men sending young men out to die, Young men dying for a politician’s lie.” Written about his father who was killed in WWII.

Released in 1984.

About a decade after I first saw that Vietnam war sentiment.

The Zippo pictured isn’t the first time, and there are other, only slightly different, versions.

The basic idea wasn’t new to either…

Quite a bit written during or about the American Civil War expressed a similar complaint…

Including some passages in “John Brown’s Body”…

Not the song but the epic narrative poem by Stephen Vincent Benet, that’s still one of my favorite books.

It was probably expressed since the earliest wars for which petty rulers conscripted the poor to do their dirty work…. I don’t even know how far back that goes.

That is so well, and so poetically, said. Is anyone reliably credited with its coinage?

You’d think it would be easier!

But I found it…

it’s….
Between a quarter and a third of the way up from the bottom left corner…. about 4 people up, in fact….

And three faces in from the left edge.

See a woman in a pink headscarf, or hijab?
Next to her is a woman in a bad-movie fake-hippie-style headband, also pink.

The kitty is in front of them, tucked in behind the people below.

BTW the design repeats once between the top and bottom

Couldn’t find it until I looked at Susan’s help. But here it is in graphical format for those still having trouble finding the cat.

Oh no! A mysterious arch fiend! BatBasset and Sparrow have a bumpy trail ahead!

(You don’t know how hard it’s been to sit on puns about arch criminals.)

How can they find him? What would he be like?

Someone with an affinity for arches…. hmmm…. I don’t like to engage in profiling, but there might be certain characteristics to watch out for:

….

Does he eat at McDonald’s?

Wear orthotics?

Date women named Betty? Or Veronica?

Does his favorite sport involve a bow and arrow?

What??

I’d be looking for a back yard stuffed with ancient monuments… that’s what I’d be looking for.

Especially curved ones.

You think BatBasset and Sparrow have a better plan???

Maybe that’s why they’re the Caped Canines, Crusading Crime-fighters, and I’m but a lowly Comics Commenter.

The hoomins pilfered so much from these original Batbassets. Even the way that Dick Grayson, the hoomin analogue to Tick Gravy, holds his hands together as they listen to the commissioner spell out what’s been happening. And the way Batman/Batbasset holds his hands hooked in his utility belt. They appear to have been very thorough.

In case anybody didn’t see it… DennisinSeattle is all right!
I found his number and Nighthawks spoke to him.

He’s in the hospital, and says he’ll be released soon!
More about it on yesterday’s page.

Meanwhile, it brought up the subject of keeping in touch, and watching out for each other.

A lot of you are already on my email list, which I’ve mostly used to send “invitations” for our virtual birthday parties, currently suspended.

But it’s always had another purpose… to provide another way to find each other, if, for instance, one of us can’t get here to post, or if the site is offline.

I always ask whether you want your email address shared, ie, cc’d on group emails. All others are bcc’d, so nobody can see them except me. I’ve sometimes shared them with StelBel, because she and I started the whole thing together, but right now that’s moot.

I don’t use addresses sent to me by another person.

….

For Dennis, as I said yesterday, I had only an email address. I did google his phone number, but I was reluctant to use it, because he hadn’t given it to me.

I know Dennis fairly well, and I didn’t think he’d mind my giving it to Nighthawks, which I did, and luckily they spoke.

But honestly, it was a hard decision for me and I don’t like being in that position.

That’s great… I just hope somebody visits both Cleo and Company and a forum where Gweedo posts, if we’re looking for news of you.

You’re welcome to be on both lists if you like.

So I’m asking you all… Unless we’ve corresponded and you know that I’m clear on the subject…

IF you want to be able to be reached, should you drop out of sight, could you please take a moment and write to me…

Whether or not you’re already on the list.

Just let me know anything I have your permission to use to find you.

It’s completely up to you whether you want to tell me your real name, your mailing address, phone number, your spouse or other person’s name’s who might answer the phone or read the mail.

A neighbor’s number, or a friend’s, it’s all up to you.

But I’d really appreciate knowing any specifics about their use:

Is this number just for emergencies, or to relay information, too? Your time zone, and how late I can call any numbers you give me. If you don’t want me to know your location, tell me in Pacific time.

It’s there any amount of time you’d like me to wait before doing any of that? Two days? Two weeks?

What can I share, and with whom?

If I don’t already know, you might as well tell me whether you want the birthday invitations, and your birthday and whether you’d like it celebrated, too… IF we ever start again. This is not a promise on my part to do it!

My email address… Please don’t share anywhere else!

My user name here at Gmail dot com

Please don’t expect quick answers! I’m not good at that… Especially if I get a lot of messages.

And please… Don’t get lost or ill or injured, so I won’t need this!
