When put back together, the coding leads to a larger version of the human poster, if you want one.

Copy it to a word processer program, put the     .jpg     tight against the     -large     and it will become active in a comment box. I offer it, because it’s a little more clear than the version you posted when clicked on to zoom it.

Funny you should post this, the Kinks have been on my mind a lot lately. My current earworm is “Apeman.”

Oooh…It’s a beautiful poster from StelBel!
All those graceful(ish) bassets on horseback!
Swordplay, and romance!

It is, as you can see, that extravagant fantasy, of castles and knights, full of music… and forbidden love… in days of yore….

BASSELOT!

I start humming when I think of it!

With the beautiful, somewhat ethereal (for a basset hound) Pawnessa Redgrrrave …

I never can remember how many rr’s in that…

having to choose between her ever-steady royal mate, played by that handsome hound, Dickie Hairies….

And her illicit love (shhh) for the dashing French knight, played by the equally handsome, Italian basset, Franco Fur-o.

(An aside… Fur-o’s songs, we now know, were actually howled by a similarly Italian-named basset… but one born in the US, Gino Furry-no… who could howl more passably in French.

And just for Stelbel and Montana Lady, who like these tidbits…
You can also hear Furry-no as one of the voices howling the theme song for “Bassegan’s Island”.)

The film was a mixed success…. at first panned by the doggy critics…. and rather a failure in theaters…

it nonetheless won THREE Golden Biscuits… for the score, the art direction, and the glorious costumes.

The humans did copy the film, of course…
but their English-language poster was different…

So what Stel has posted for us is the Belgian one, in French…

They were apparently the only ones smart enough to steal her poster design.

Reassure me, please. It’s elephants that are a sign of overuse of alcohol, correct?

I can’t find a single bit of history on the magazine, despite there being many covers for sale. It is not, I’m virtually certain, a transition name to “Motor-Kritic.”
