It’s real! I just got distracted for a while reading about it.
The statue is Sendai Daikannon, officially the Sendai Tendou Byakue Daikannon, in Sendai, Japan. It portrays the Japanese Buddhist version of the bodhisattva, bearing the cintamani gem in her hand.
It’s actually a temple inside, and was built in 1991. I’ve looked at a bunch of sites, and can’t find out what it’s made of. At the time of its opening, it was the tallest statue in the world, but according to Wikipedia, 35 years later, it’s now 10th… 330 feet tall, including the pedestal, which is the main temple building. 302 ft for just the statue.
For a small fee, you can enter the statue itself. On the first floor are large statues of Buddha and mythical kings. You can walk or take an elevator to the 12th level … then walk down the ramps to the ground. At each level, there are eight Buddhas displayed in wooden cabinets.
Cool photos…. but I have to admit, without your providing any caption or information, I’m lost. Sorry
I’m just guessing that the top one shows lava flows, and I don’t at all understand what’s going on in the lower one.
It looks like the tripod legs are on fire, and maybe even the photographer’s shoes(!). It doesn’t seem like that would be real, so I’m wondering if that’s part of whatever trick you mean.
I didn’t think there was trick photography in the wedding photo I commented on, but rather, trick development, ie image manipulation, after the fact.
You mentioned a telephoto lens being able to provide that effect, so I’m thinking you mean he’s using one, above… but I don’t see any reflection in the top picture, or know what telephoto has to do with photographing a reflection from a distance.
Funny, I did, in fact, use my phone screen to try to reflect something before I wrote my comment yesterday, to make sure, and as I expected, it cut off anything out of range.
If bringing it “closer” via telephoto would have brought it into view, I think I’d need to see a chart to understand the geometry of it, or at least more explanation.. thanks.
While on a Keto diet, I’ve made a pizza with a latticework crust out of zucchini. I like a deep dish, and it was surprisingly tasty with enough sausage, mozzarella and sauce.
It made a good substitute in lasagna and enchilada casseroles, providing an interesting crunchiness that you can’t get with overcooked pasta noodles or tortillas.
I eat zucchini and carrots and cauliflower… They’re great.
But starch is starch, and vegetables will never be pasta, not even spaghetti squash, or laboriously “spiralized” anything non-starchy.
Corn, peas, or lima beans can provide more satisfying starch than zucchini, but they’re not pasta, either.
And you cannot, no matter how hard you try, milk an almond. Your fingers are just too big.
( I personally think it shouldn’t be allowed, legally, to label things “milk” that are derived from soaking and/or cooking ground-up plant parts in water. I’m not saying they should make it, or you shouldn’t use it, but mothers should not be fooled into thinking oats or almonds provide children with the nutrition of milk.)
Does this make chips healthy? Of course not. But you need to use your head. It’s better to eat carrots than chips. But a few chips now and then are not a crime or a death sentence, and they kill the craving that can otherwise sabotage your diet.
Food has become an almost religious battlefield. Stop demonizing certain foods, and people who eat them, and raising children with eating disorders who mock their friends or think food is the enemy.
My son arranged for one of his terminally ill patients who was confined to the hospital to at least get wheeled out into an area where their family and dog could visit them.
Probably a painting of, or at least inspired by, the WigWam Motels… a chain of motels along Route 66.
There used to be at least half a dozen or so, I think mostly gone, but a few are left.
The teepees, or wigwams, are made of painted cement and plaster, like something at a theme park, not actual teepees.
We traveled the length of Route 66 when I was maybe 8, and of course we three kids clamored to stay in one, but they cost way more than the budget motels my parents chose, so it never happened 🙁

And the pigeons are cursing those hats!
I thought they liked using them for targets.

The entrance is through a dragon’s mouth.
Inside the building at the base…
I’ve replied to yesterday’s trick-photo there…
Here’s some eye-candy:
I don’t see it. Little blue box.

Groomed cross country track.
With a side order of Milky Way…
Corduroy!

It’s like a digital version of one of those boards full of pins you push up from underneath.
Mona has had a bit too much to drink.
Or whoever is looking at Mona
If i had had too much to drink i would not be looking at that.

I wouldn’t say he had no special peculiarities.
Oh… wait… They’re talking about his appearance.
Leytonstone, Essex, is now part of Greater London. Same as Walthamstow, and Leyton.

Cave canem! So cool.

Yup, nope.
They lost me at line one.

Who didn’t see that coming?
I saw it coming… But whatever actually happens then is too fast for my eyes to follow.
I just see a jumble of images that I don’t have time to focus on.
Do they knock it off the track, as I expect?
Yes they did, and the framerate is way to show the speed with which they did it. As I recall, this is in Japan.
Yeah… I understand that. But it doesn’t make my eyes able to process the frame-rate. They just don’t change focus fast enough.
I’m very myopic, and the eye muscles get even stiffer as we age, which I assume is why I have more of a problem with it than I used to.
I know other people can follow it. They have to explain the action to me, the way I’d explain what I do see to a person who can’t see at all.
Last frame looks like it’s on the floor.
It’s on the scenery at the side of the embankment. I think you can see part of a tunnel mouth when it comes to rest.
What took them so long?

I told him to stay close!”
I must have forgotten to wipe!
“Did I scare ya, mom? Did I? Huh?”

Define “Mobile Phone…”
Exactly.
After much staring, I’ve found something that seems to be the only thing of its kind… But I wouldn’t call it a cell phone.
Maybe it’s a cell phone. To somebody. Or not.
I have to look some more….
Okay….. I guess I’ve decided it must be the cell phone… or their idea of a cell phone.
So I’m calling this…
At least for now.
That’s what I found.
I can claim that I found it in 3 seconds. Then, again, I’ve been known to lie a lot. 😉
I found nothin’. I was seriously distracted by the coffee and donuts.
I didn’t find it. I guess that’s a phone. Now. I was thinking more like a flip phone. Or one with an antenna. Remember those?
I was looking for either that or a smartphone… But this thing looks like…. Okay, I suppose I should
a 1990s pda… like an old BlackBerry or some such.
….
I was one of the 73 million!
Me too!
I see the comic today!
Some of the other ones were chuckle-able, too.
The timing is superb!

Bunny for Bunday.
Golden-crowned Sparrow.
Why does he appear to have teeth like the Bond villain Jaws?
Hmm…maybe a crunched up seed?
Cleo may never learn that escalation isn’t the answer.
It isn’t? Since when?
